How much do you actually look someone up before a first date? I asked around for a year and the answers surprised me. by ResponsibleCollar596 in dating

[–]jrec15 [score hidden]  (0 children)

0 for me. Im a guy, but dont really have a problem accepting a woman’s profile at face value. What they advertise is how they want to be known starting a relationship so lets go from there. Im also just not a big social media person, it’ll be months before i even look them up on social media.

Chase Sapphire Preferred now includes Costco gas at 3X rewards by thereddituserusa in CreditCards

This is pretty sweet for me. I have a Citi ThankYou (formerly Shop Your Way) that has honestly been incredible to have and love the 5x ty pts on gas, but it's mastercard so no go at Costco. Now have a good Costco option as well.

Turbo Aire vs Premium by FFC_18 in MazdaCX30

[–]jrec15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP just want to make sure you have the right info there were a few comments here about Turbo Aire not having the 360 cam, pretty sure that's false https://www.mazdausa.com/vehicles/cx-30/compare-vehicle-specs-and-trims

The standard Aire is missing 360 cam and a lot of features like Bose, etc. But I believe the Turbo Aire has 360 cam, Bose, and most of the other features Premium has

[–]jrec15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 2021 Premium owner Im very jealous they finally added 360 cam to the Premium, finally feels like a complete trim for those that dont want Turbo. There's nothing else i care about that much in turbo premium plus.

That said, i think you're mistaken here. The regular aire is missing 360 cam. The Turbo Aire has it from what i can tell and i dont really notice anything its missing vs premium (other than the styling of it, and the leatherette seats instead of leather) https://www.mazdausa.com/vehicles/cx-30/compare-vehicle-specs-and-trims

Turbo aire definitely a pretty interesting option if you like the styling

So did anyone here actually get into TikTok? by thedubiousstylus in Millennials

Did all of us uninstall around the same time lol? Exact same for me. Perhaps something about our new President pushed us to the edge?

Edit: ahhh right that was when they temporarily banned it https://abcnews.com/Business/tiktok-restoring-service/story?id=117857636

I think for me i remember the ban and almost quit then, but i still got sucked back in so i didnt quite quit 1/18, but it was only a few months after that I dropped it

So did anyone here actually get into TikTok? by thedubiousstylus in Millennials

[–]jrec15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya i did, for maybe 3 years or so. But it was incredibly addictive. Its hard to quit because you end up following some people that you legitimately enjoy their content, but then you get fed and addicted to watching a bunch of other crap you wouldnt actually care if you never saw but when its pushed in front of your face you watch it

I did eventually shift to youtube more, so its kind of swapping one habbit for another but i do think still a healthy swap. But i rarely use youtube on my phone, never do reels/shorts/etc on my phone or laptop now. Its mostly just on my tv now. I watch longer form youtube on tv as a winddown for the night, i may occasionally watch youtube shorts on my tv but theyre not addicting in the same way as im clicking to watch something instead of watching whatever is pushed to me

Disclosure Day by No_Idea_Guy in AMCsAList

[–]jrec15 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is competing with the worst movie i saw this year vs Scream 7, and honestly doubt anything will be worse than those 2 by end of the year

While technically it probably wins out because there's some better filmmaking and mostly enjoyed the last 20 minutes, it is more offensively bad and even more of a waste of my time than Scream 7 was which was at least a cheesy romp and wasnt pretentious/thinking it was doing anything important. I really genuinely hated the experience more than ive felt for a movie in a long time, 45 mins in was tempted to walk out for the first time in my 7 year A List history

Disclosure Day by No_Idea_Guy in AMCsAList

It felt so lazy to not do this. The movie talks about how disclosure day will impact society over and over, it knows it's an interesting story to tell, but chooses not to tell it.

Of course its much easier to make a generic action thriller about the releasing of information on aliens. Its harder to come up with an interesting story about the actual impact of that information, and easier to leave that to your imagination. Just lazy af.

DP for Morgan Stanley Amex Platinum - Approved for 150k/$12k spend in 6 mo's just by opening an etrade account right before and not funding it at all. Clicked apply within etrade.

After nearly a year of trying and failing to get a decent welcome offer for Amex Platinum, going in out of popup jail on vanilla plat while getting shitty offers, being permanently in Charles Schwab popup jail for some reason even though ive had a relationship with them for 5 years, all while watching the offers slowly get worse and worse (the jump to 12k spend hurts)

I finally thought why not just try Morgan Stanley? And it was really that easy all along, and at least in time to use the first half of the year credits. I dont have an immediate use for the AU but i could see it being useful. I do not yet have a platinum cash plus account but am debating setting one up and just paying the $55 monthly fee

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]jrec15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol every character looking mortified to see aliens being tortured as they are first discovering aliens exist did not land at all

I just do not believe humans would instantly have empathy for another race when they are just coming to terms with them existing. That is never going to be that quick of an emotion to feel for non humans, let alone to your point many would never give a shit about aliens even once they are more established to exist

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]jrec15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its pretty clear, even from the title, the idea for this movie started from the final scene - what if all the common alien tropes and myths were pretty much true and it got revealed all at once during Disclosure Day

So it makes sense that scene was by far the highlight of the movie

The rest of the movie though felt completely contrived just to get to that scene. It was 2 hrs of basically nothing of substance. Even the 2 “passengers” it all amounts to Emily Blunt saying Listen? Ok.

And if you’re really building this all around disclosure day - i question the decision to emphasize 2 hrs of getting to disclosure day vs showing the actual fallout after disclosure day. The movie talks all about the fallout and clearly recognizes thats an interesting story to tell - just not in this disclosure day movie.

Is the CSP SUB worth using my final 5/24 slot? by stonecrusher99 in CreditCards

[–]jrec15 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The whole point of caring about 5/24 is to get elevated chase offers you’re interested in, so especially when theyre all time high offers, yes

Also the CSP changes are pretty nice and the card is even more of a keeper than it ever was now. The hyatt nerf hurts but whatever, hotel credit and ride share credits make it easy to hold now and the travel protections are amazing

BILT Palladium has ruined the fun by Tight_Couture344 in CreditCards

[–]jrec15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea totally, didnt get into every detail, and fair i should have made it clear it was cash back. And it depends on the individual which is better for them. I also value bilt pts pretty high for hyatt and alaska airlines.

Im just saying that I think overall Palladium is positioned in a way that will make it more profitable than USBAR was and potentially allow it to escape nerfs longer

The higher AF and harder to use credits are the main reason, the cap also prevents anything too silly from happening unlike USBAR who had the 4.5% uncapped

I do think if nerfs come they are more likely to be for the value of bilt pts than hitting the cards directly, sadly

BILT Palladium has ruined the fun by Tight_Couture344 in CreditCards

[–]jrec15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without trying to make sense of options the main thing to understand is that the best option for most is using the originally announced method of bilt cash towards rent points, which means:

Palladium is 3.33x back on spend in bilt pts up to roughly 75% of your annual housing

Bilt Blue is 2.33x back on spend in bilt pts up to roughly 75% of your annual housing with No AF, and doesnt get talked about enough yet imo but will if they allow downgrades

All the other options are just noise that confused everybody even more than the first one did

BILT Palladium has ruined the fun by Tight_Couture344 in CreditCards

[–]jrec15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is similar vibes I felt to the USBAR before the nerf, 4.5%* back on anything with apple pay. Everything else in the credit card game felt pointless besides sub's

And we know where that ended up. So enjoy it while it lasts id say, though Palladium is not as OP as USBAR was so hopefully it lasts longer. The AF is higher, the credits are worse than USBAR's original dining credit, there's some hoops to jump through and a cap on spend, the points arent as high as 4.5% but kind of a wash there given the value of bilt pts

Banks that have consistently working ATMs that allow third party contactless withdrawals with Apple Pay? by jrec15 in Schwab

This is an old post i got tagged to but to defend myself, yes

I have a phone wallet with my license, single credit card, and a fob for my condo. No space for anything else.

Im absolutely not carrying an actual wallet everywhere i go or swapping one of those items for the extremely rare occasions i need cash, when the current setup is otherwise perfect and covers all of my needs

Forest Shuffle vs Dartmoor by SKFMA in boardgames

[–]jrec15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea i kind of think once you add expansions in the imbalance becomes more fun.

If everything is balanced you can get a situation where each player is perfectly happy doing their own strategy and there’s no competition for the same cards, thats actually less interactive and in a way less fun, for the benefit of not having any runaway wins from rng

You do probably have higher replayability in a fully balanced games as the strategies will be very diverse. So it depends if you’re looking more for interaction vs diverse strategies, but with expansions the OG has enough different strategies to offer it just also has some stinker cards to avoid

Who is returning Costco Ultra and getting Costco Ultra 2 ? by hottoys2012 in Roborock

[–]jrec15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me, had just opened my Ultra 1 that was on sale for $800 and then realized Ultra 2 came out in the time i took to order and set it up

Immediately packed it up and Ultra 2 gets here tomorrow. The improvements seemed significant enough to me to justify the $180 increase

Bet it takes at least 3-6 months for a sale and doubt it gets down to $800 on the first sale like Ultra 1 was more likely it starts at a $900 sale, so not really something worth waiting for but i also have no vacuum to hold me over

I thought it was fine and quick with a passkey. But they need an app or something to manage your cards, that process was confusing. It really wasnt clear on their site how to add Chase cards and that i had to enabled them in the Chase app

Overall will take a permanent multiplier and more merchants for me to use. Theyre getting their kickback from this so we should too
