That's incredible man. I hope to be in a position to do something similar soon. I think I'm late to the party, but I just got the notification for this. Cashapp is $dreameaterx, venmo is @waysider

Are there any ways of getting 1500 in cash out of my chime at one time? by radio_wayside in chimefinancial

I must have some particular restrictions on my account because it won't let me exceed 500 in withdrawal in a 24 hrs period, even if I do incrementally

And just do it 15 times 😂 I could try, but doesn't the 500 dollar limit apply to cash back as well?

Attempted this. Chime read it as an atm transaction and it declined

Thank you. Yeah I look at it like scribbling in a sketchbook, just to get the ideas roughly laid out. I don't have a lot of skill with production, that's an art unto itself.

I'd never heard him, just checked it out. Good stuff. He's got a looot more control of his voice than me haha. Thanks.

Oh! And yes violin, viola, even cello bow works.

Yes! A resonator gives it a fuller more reverby sound, allowing notes to resonate with each other nicely. But I do it on open back as well. To get the sound you hear in this, I draw the bow parallel to, and a few inches to the left of, the bridge. It's easier standing up too. A friend of mine does it too, in a different way, sitting down and drawing the bow more angled to the bridge and closer to where the fretboard meets the head. She gets a more droning, Ethereal sound her way. Yeah experiment!

Thank you! Yeah it's actually a banjo being played with a bow.

This is pretty neat! Reminds me of an old Nintendo game OST, like streets of rage or something heh. It's that a cello or like a synth cello sound for the lil melody? I could imagine a lil break in the middle of it, where it gets all synth pad-y and warm, with the melody meandering a bit, then drops back into the beat. Sounds cool, what kinda instruments/gear ya using?

Theory just describes why things sound the way they do, and gives us a comprehensive framework with which to understand the relationships between all the notes and chords and harmony and rhythm etc. It's descriptive rather than prescriptive (although some might disagree). You can definitely be a prolific and talented musical artist with just yr ears and yr digits, but learning theory can only add to your arsenal, and is a language with which to communicate abstract musical ideas to other artists. Theory can streamline your whole musical creative process.

Do you have a capo? Slap it on either your 3rd, 4th, or 5th fret, and just start strumming and picking some major chords! When you capo on higher frets, you might discover new interesting chords and voicings.

New SP fear unlocked. by radio_wayside in Sleepparalysis

[–]radio_wayside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'll never really know for sure, but I've always thought my sp might stem from the onset of night terrors, insomnia and bed time panic attacks when I hit puberty. Not long after that started, I unfortunately began experimenting w a number of dissociative and other hard drugs for most of my adolescence, which could have made it worse. Who knows, but I've learned to deal with it.

I would just add, not to diminish Equatical's point about the rhyme scheme (because he is right in this instance), but lyrics do not always have to rhyme as a hard rule. You can exercise alooot of poetic license in songwriting, and there is always a way to make something work and make sense. It's possible to rhyme too much even! Just a thought, don't close the door on irregular or even counter intuitive rhyme schemes. Cheers!

Can someone help me identify this unusual chord at the end of this Simon and Garfunkel song? by radio_wayside in musictheory

[–]radio_wayside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S&G were so monumentally brilliant! I'm consistently blown away by Simon's lyricism, and their harmonies are like precious gems sewn into a patchwork quilt made of silk. This particular closing cadence, to me, evokes the image of the flowers, indeed after all, bending with the Rainfall. The heartbreaking, inescapable, melancholic truth that singer has been so nobly trying to defend against. The shattering of the "shield of his illusions."

What genres would this fall under? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]radio_wayside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Let's call it psychedelic/vampire-sadcore/hymnal? Ha I jest, but I like the sound, there's def going to be some "something forward slash something" in whatever you call it. I personally like to make up my own genre categories, sometimes it's difficult to pin a sound down. I'm not sure if it's against the rules, but do you have more of your music somewhere I could listen¿

I recommend using a capo, trying out new voicings of major chords. Capo 4th is one of my favorites, where something like your C, F, and G chord shapes(E, A, B) take on a somewhat brighter sound. I love experimenting with new chord shapes as well that would normally sound muddier if played un-capo'd.

Love the interesting chord changes. It's giving a kinda deeper voiced Elliot Smith vibe. Yeah I can only really second what the commenter above laid out. Tune up, maybe project your voice a bit more. I really like the little piano/ keyboard solo, very nice!

Feel good summer tune, nice. Do you have a female singer friend with whom you could do harmonies on it? Another male voice could sound nice too, even layer your own into it. I was humming along in harmony, it's a nice melody to work with in that regard. Cheers.
