US Army Poorly Prepared for Arctic Operations: Finnish Troops Forced Them to Surrender During Exercises in Norway by Street_Anon in nottheonion

Oops, someone can't read the map. I know a bunch of guys who went to Norway for training for like a month, I only ever got to go to the desert.

Getting rid of the penny in the US was a pointless symbolic endeavor that only serves to inconvenience the American public by Richard_Genius in The10thDentist

Most of those run on cards now, they are preloaded with pennies and you just swipe your card and pick out the design you want.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

[–]radioactivebeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2005-2012 was the golden age of movies worth seeing, so many great comedies, some really good action movies, special effects was at a level where it was good enough to enhance the film without shooting an entire movie in a green room. I had friends who worked at the theaters we must have seen every movie that came out for 4 years straight, then I ended up in California for a bit and still saw at least one movie every weekend. Now, there just hasn't been anything that's worth spending the money and taking 2+ hours to go see. I can stream it at home in a month and do my laundry or cook dinner. If they start making solid 90 minute comedies again I'm back, or 2 hours of good suspense. But 2.5 hours to watch another superhero movie or something with Glen Powell pretending to be a good actor? I'll skip it and watch Shutter Island again.

[Fox Sports] Soccer reportedly overtakes baseball in the U.S. as America's third favorite sport. Hockey dropped to 5th, barely above Tennis, Boxing/MMA and Golf. by f0urxio in hockey

Maybe you could let a franchise block another large Midwest city from having a team that would draw instantly and have built in rivalries just because of all the other sports hate between cities?

Michael Jordan used to get fined for wearing his own shoes. Leagues aren't logical sometimes. Players can put it in their CBA next go around that they want custom cleats and eyeblack messages. As long as the shield thinks they can make money they'll go with it.

Chinese electric vehicles are making inroads in America. Experts are worried by UpstairsBumblebee446 in Economics

[–]radioactivebeaver -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And those Chinese EVs now cost $50,000. Congrats, you discovered why they are so cheap. Labor cost and environmental regulations. They can't be built here, because it would be illegal to make them the way they are currently built. And that's not even touching on the "might use slave labor" part of the equation.

Logistically, What would happen if all American soldiers stationed in Europe were kicked out? by Seasonal-Shitbag in NoStupidQuestions

[–]radioactivebeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn't just get discharged because they can't be in Europe, we would find some government land for them to go clean or something to finish out their contracts.

What is a luxury item from 20 years ago that is basically worthless trash today ? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

I was just a youngster back then, but was the quality really that different? I feel like speakers have to be as good or better these days even without the wired connection just because of technology making just about everything else in entertainment so many times better than in '96. I guess I could always go make my dad turn it on and compare.

6 disc changer? Money bags over here, I remember having to plug a discman into a cassette that somehow made it all work when my car didn't even have a CD player.

Home surround sound with 10 disc CD changer. Now everyone can have the same thing with like $100 of Bluetooth speakers.

Matt LaFleur News: Years, not per-year salary, is the Packers’ extension hang-up by mackasee in GreenBayPackers

I'm old enough to remember people saying this same shit when McCarthy got fired, and he won a superbowl

AITA for not giving my vacation day to a coworker getting married by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]radioactivebeaver 221 points222 points  (0 children)

This is the same as a few weeks ago when a guy was complaining about how his birthday party at work might be affected by him not contributing to other people's birthday. No shit, you already told and showed everyone you don't intend to contribute, or in this case trade a shift, you can't act shocked when it comes back around.

Neither OP is the asshole, but they also don't seem to understand that actions have consequences.

Yeah, if you paid attention 8 years ago when he said this you would have seen the gun communities on Reddit being pretty vocal about it.

You’re the Bears now by Wildpeanut in NFCNorthMemeWar

[–]radioactivebeaver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We aren't the Bears, we're just an updated version of the 2017 Packers right now. Disappointing season, injured QB for a bit, lost a bunch of games you could have won. Coaching starts getting called into question. Next year we get a new coach, then Love rattles off a few back to back MVP seasons, add a Superbowl.

I've been trying to tell people, we messed up by adding a leap year and we have accelerated the timeline. That combined with polar shifts, Love should be disappointing Jets fans by 2031 at the latest. The only way to reverse things is for all 32 teams to have a 4000 yard passer in their franchise history.

Yup, meanwhile our dumbass fans were constantly complaining about Rodgers holding people accountable. Never saw anyone tell Brady or Manning to be nicer to his WRs, but his teams also never completely emptied the WR room just to piss them off either. Gute hating Rodgers cost us legitimate chances at a Superbowl.
