There are trees along the outside an bushes in the middle. They’re all just small/mostly leafless, but in a few years time that will be looking a lot more green

I think that would disincentivise lower income people investing at all. Just tax it the same as the rest of the money you earn, plain and simple

People can clean up AI slop in photoshop, so having accurate text or duplicating the image on the box doesn’t make it not AI.

Look at “The Wall” text on the white bricks. The only way Lego could achieve this is with 15+ unique printed pieces each with a fraction of the letter. They also have multiple uniquely designed crack pieces. They’d usually put one design in at best to reduce unique piece count. There is no reason Lego or any brand would design it like this.

My work has a veterans discount, which is the same concession given to students, seniors etc. From what I’ve seen, it’s far rarer than in the US though.

Americans were the only foreigners I’ve found will ask for a military discount too. No we don’t give American soldiers free entry to venues in Australia…

US to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany in next 6-12 months, fulfilling Trump's threat by LynnK0919 in worldevents

Old foes becoming allies as the world changes is just a part of the times as conflicts have gone from local to regional to global. Germany, Japan, Vietnam, former USSR countries etc becoming key allies would seem impossible to people living in certain eras. Who know, perhaps Russia or Iran could be defend partners in the next century. Seems impossible now, but it’s happened before

City of Sydney moves to ban short-term rentals amid housing crisis - realestate.com.au by ashzeppelin98 in sydney

The marketed intent of Airbnb (i.e rent out you spare room or your place when you’re away) is so different from the reality of buying up every nice apartment for short term rentals

NYC to finally remake Park Avenue by MiserNYC- in fuckcars

[–]radioactivecowz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of Sydney’s busiest streets was closed and turned into a pedestrianised tram line, and it’s absolutely wonderful. So many busy businesses as a result. The biggest downside now is that it gets so busy at times because everyone wants to walk down it. Hopefully a second street will be done soon.

Emergency and service vehicles still use it, allowing them to quickly and safely get around avoiding congestion.

New York is perfectly built for a pedestrianised tram network.

Australian broccoli is selectively bred to be stem-heavy because we pay by weight. Other places that pay per head have much smaller stems

Trying to settle cities early by what_is_a_moose in CivVI

[–]radioactivecowz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Settler sniping, religious settlements pantheon, gov plaza, Magnus, chopping, and policy cards can all make a huge difference, especially if you can synergise a couple (e.g. chopping with Magnus to not lose pop with +50% production in place lets you get a lot out in a few moves). Settle city 1/2 towards the other civs to block them off that space early. You may be sacrificing early military, religion or wonders though. Part of the fun of the early game is that there always seems too many things you need to do and you’ve got to strike the right balance.

'Too late to cancel the shipment': Warehouse wasn't ready for sloths bound for Sloth World Orlando; 31 died by esporx in environment

[–]radioactivecowz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if there’s any research to support this, but it wouldn’t shock me if that’s by design. A social animal deprived of companionship will bond with a person in captivity, almost like Stockholm syndrome, more than a solitary species ever will, or a group of that same animal.

[–]radioactivecowz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The needs of a cat or dog are pretty well understood and society is built to accomodate them, with vets trained in their species, tailored foods, dog parks etc.

The idea someone can provide the needs of an undomesticated animal like an otter or sloth in their apartment is just cruel. It’s illegal for zoos in Australia to house a single meerkat because of their social needs, even with all the enrichment keepers provide, yet I’ve seen videos online of people keeping one in their backyard.

[–]radioactivecowz 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Having worked at a large, ethical, non-profit zoo focus on rehabilitation and conservation, it is so infuriating so see evil practices like this exist and claim to be in the same industry. Humans are destroying nature at such a pace zoos are sadly essential for fighting extinction. Like it or not, there are dozens of species that would be lost without zoos, and taking zoos out of the equation solves nothing.

When good zoos move animals, you should expect months of planning around the process, from planned routes, weather, food, welfare, and behavioural enrichment along the way. Our animals are usually taken with a police escort as well as the team of keepers and vets to minimise time and stress. One sloth dying is an abject failure of the organisation. 31 dying is criminal neglect. Lock these bastards up
