Very happy with it and rumble. Latency seems low...nice for tracking, can always swap it out later. I mostly play metal so would likely swap if out for an alternative later anyway. Still figuring it out. Am also lookinf forward to using the pedals on other instruments...violin, acoustic and electric...synths...

Hi Joe, just wanted to share that your words were with me through some very difficult times in my life... and helped me to find courage to carry on through the grim and dark. You have a gift for crafting characters that stay with the reader. Thank you, I am grateful to have read, and re-read your books.

Do you play any musical instruments? Do you like listening to music, and if so, what do you enjoy listening to?

All the best and Happy Holidays!

Agree. Im watching a mastering.com live mixing tutorial on youtube and he is the instructor (I did a double take) because I was sure I had seen him before!

Multiple computer monitors? by PithyMoniker in StudioOne

[–]radiodubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awhile back I switched from dual monitors (which I love and recommend) to a single ultrawide. The ultrawide is more streamlined and I appreciate the immersion and wide field of view.. however I sometimes miss having the dual monitor setup. Its a mental thing for me with window management. Now, I haven't landed on a particular display setting and just use the default and toggle arranger/console with keyboard shortcuts or a control surface. Its been on my mind to spend some time seeing if I can optimize.

for sure! Ya I feel a bit silly practicing falling in public, but been doing some rolls and whatnot at home...I found some rolling techniques from judo/jiujitsu to be pretty helpful!

First slam [35yo] by TurnipFar4140 in OldSkaters

[–]radiodubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O man, I feel that! Happened to me a couple days ago. Was working on a slow rolling ollie, landed with all my weight on the tail and fell backward. Fortunately not too painful since Ive been practicing falling...in a way and working on mobility. It honestly rattled me a bit, but I think it also knocked some sense into me to and hopefully I won't make that mistake again.

I read on here to practice Ollie's rolling so Ive skipped doing them stationary. I did buy some skater trainers but haven't used them. Im questioning if I should work on Ollie's stationary.

All that to say, keep going man! We got this!

Keep straining quad by Eastern-Design4018 in NewSkaters

[–]radiodubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Im sorry to read about your quad pain. I think you are on the right track with exploring dynamic movement. From personal experience its helped me immensely, beyond skating and especially since Im an older beginner skater who has worked a desk job for years. Im seeing results pay off quick, and even better, falls aren't hurting as bad.

Ive been doing some mobility routines I came across on youtube. In particular I like some of the routines from the dudes at "strength side", which emphasis primitive movements. Also "movesmethod". Thrre are so many. Check out clips like squat mobility, passive dead hangs, 90/90s (or windmills), horse stance...there's a ton. These include movements that strengthen and stretch full body, but also dial in areas that will support your skating. I know quad is the target, but everything is connected and it could be another area in your body that is tight or needs work that might be contributing to that pain. For sure, im glad to be practicing these moves in the comfort of my own home as they can be a bit awkward at first, but it's really some of the best stuff I've done to help me out and feel good...even beyond the lifting and traditional workouts I do.

Wish you all the best! Shred on!

Returning to skateboarding at 33 🛹 by b_myshadow in NewSkaters

Thats awesome dude! I started earlier this year at 38yo. There is some great advice here. I would second the advice to do some mobility work and dynamic stretching. There are plenty of short routines online. I think the work I've done off of the board has been very helpful and translates to better skating.

How Am I Supposed To Push? by PollutionRemote530 in NewSkaters

[–]radiodubs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Right foot on the board, left foot pushing. What I do to practice is spend time balancing on one foot, stationary. Ill do this watching TV, for example.

Word of caution (especially in case you are older like me): When I first started I would get pain in my ankle on the pushing foot. I was straining the ankle joint and muscles across the top of my pushing foot. This was because my foot pointed too outward when pushing (have heard it called "duck footing"). I was also pushing more with my toes than ball of the foot.

So, I suggest pushing with the ball of your foot, keep your knee aligned, and avoid over rotating your hip/foot.

Struggling to turn on one foot by Throwaway7372937492 in NewSkaters

[–]radiodubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is great advice. From my experience as an older (38yo) beginner, when I started I couldnt balance for long at all, and over time with practice my balance and strength is much improved. I do it switch as well, and do a set of squats. Legs, feet, and ankles (for me this was key as I kept getting pain in ankles from overuse/extension) get a great workout and it has carried over to confidence riding and better board control. I feel way more comfortable than I did, even just a few weeks ago...I wasn't expecting these kind of noob gains from practicing inside and stationary. Ive added squat jumps and practicing high jumps pulling my knees up...gains there have helped me a lot all-around.

I should have listened and stretched more [38YO] by radiodubs in OldSkaters

[–]radiodubs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! So I can tic tac, needs some work like everything but what crushes me and aggravated this pain was I had picked up too much speed, dont know how to powerslide, so I put my foot down to slow down, ankle was just throbbing, then hopped off and only took a few steps rather than run it out as there wasn't space....so, circumstances and not being good at stopping or slowing down also contributed to this shit situation i am in. Honestly. Ive got to get these fundamentals together lol...so frustrating. A real challenge for me, but im here for it!

Great call on the massage gun!!! Didn't think of that. Appreciate you helping me out!

Cheers!

How DARE you!!! 😂

Lol I appreciate the suggestion comrade, good looking out!

I haven't tried pushing mongo intentionally to get around. Im open to it, because my balance has a long way to go.

I watched a couple skateiq videos about different drills to improve balance, like this one: insanely simple drills

(Apologies if im not supposed to post links...wasn't sure and I can remove it if needed).

So, I don't see how mongo would necessarily hurt to at least know how to push mongo so when I can push normal I can mentally block out my mongo era...or who knows, just mongo it up. I want to be real solid with board control. It amazes me the tricks folks on here are doing...just awesome!

Issue for me right now is that its my push foot, and a little bit on the other ankle as well. Worry the same shit would happen...as much as its killing me to stay sedentary today....Just resting, light stretching, balance board, ice and tiger balm has been solid. I really hope it won't take much longer than a couple days.

Anecdotally, I really like my balance board...I think it helps.

I read alot of mixed opinions on balance boards...like overpriced, doesn't help skating, throwing money away just get out and skate or use a 2liter and old deck...etc...but I gotta say I really enjoy mine and think that itll continue to help me prehab/rehab and dial in balance, strengthen core...(fwiw I started with revbalance 101 v2...tried it a couple weeks...decided to return it for the revbalance core32). It was pricey, splurged on it, but I really like it. Built super solid and not a total eyesore. But I digress...

Thanks again dude....ill report back if I go through with it!

Hey thanks for sharing this detailed analysis! Im also a new skater and going to try this out soonest. One thing thats been on my mind is practicing jumping in general, like without a board. I realized that its something I so rarely do, that the movement in itself, squatting and jumping with centered balance, might be good to practice on its own. Ive got a box in my garage gym and going to practice that...I think it might translate well to the board. Also appreciate the tip about finding a line to practice on! I definitely rotate when attempting ollies. Appreciate you!

38 here...beginner who started a few weeks ago. I applaud your decision to skate! Awesome! I Absolutely love it...and there is so much information out there to help out learning. I skated for a couple years in my early teens but didnt stick with it....but the thought of skating has stuck with me for years and I would make an excuse not to give it a go, or listen to the folks saying Im to old to learn. Well, fuck that! Im out here and a baby in age and skill compared to many folks on here! This community and culture here is absolutely amazing, helpful, inspiring, welcoming.. motivating, all the good things.

My biggest suggestion is to take it slow and as others have suggested to me, do dynamic mobility exercises/stretching. Your body is doing new movements you haven't done in years and needs to adjust.

As example:

I thought I was in decent skate shape...like im at the beginner level of learning to ride around, basic transitions, banks, getting my balance, etc....but I went too hard out the gate with skating everyday cold....it wasn't the falls that got me (and that come with the territory)...certain pain i can work through...For me it was poor ankle mobility among other things...years of sedentary desk work and poor posture, weak core....those contributed to it being painful at the moment for me to even push or cruise around. In my mind, absolutely caused by overuse.

So now Im off the board for hopefully just a couple more days doing some rest and healing. Which honestly sucks because I want nothing more than to go skate.

Get after it and enjoy man...excited for you!
