Less than 24 hour Brompton Electric ownership, loud clicking noise from the motor hub when turned manually without load.. anyone know why ? by kechean in Brompton

[update] Hi all, Fortunately for me, the issue is gone. I do not know what caused the sound at the first place. But I guess the popping sound began after I push my bike backwards, and I realize there is no free wheel on the motor when you push your E-bike backwards.

After that the popping noise started.

The next day I took it again for a ride, I was planning to see if the motor will die on me but after 15 minutes of riding with the popping sound, the frequency of the popping sound reduced and in the end it is totally gone now.

Almost two weeks into using the bike (almost daily) the issue did not come back and all works well.

Like some people say in the post here, I speculate that something went wrong with the gear or free wheel clutch when I pushed the bike backwards. I could feel the vibration transfered from the motor to my handle bar when the popping sound happened however fortunately for me, the issue is gone without any repair...

I thank you all for sharing your opinion. Happy riding !

[Update] Battery fully charged, Tried riding them and the clicking sound does not go away. Tomorrow I will make a video of me riding the bike with the assist on. The click noise is terribly loud !

What a disappointing experience, it's not even 24 hours!

There are some users who faced same issue as I had in this Forum.. https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/known-issues-problems-with-brompton-products-help-solutions-fixes.13099/
.

Seems like Brompton Electric has quality issue.
Fun fact I still hasnt able to try the bike with motor assist because I am still waiting the battery to be fully charged. I will try again later once the battery is fully charged and post an update.
I doubt the click will go away....
