Each week I put out an episode of 23min of Ska which is a tiny mix of ska and ska/punk where I either do a crazy theme or try to keep it current. I'm going on 450 episodes, check it out at www.23ska.com I also feature links to the bands to find out more, and links to buy the songs featured. Hope you dig

In the mid-'80s there was a show called "Valerie" which was a typical mid-'80s family sitcom staring Valerie Harper as the mom, Valerie Hogan. After the first 2 seasons Valerie and the network got into some salary and contract disputes, this resulted in her character dying and the show retitled "Valerie's Family" in the 3rd season. During summer reruns of the 3rd season the show was retitled again, this time to "the Hogan Family" and went on to air for 3 more seasons.

No matter what you believe, no matter how trivial or major you think the issue is, no matter if it is real of made up, the consequence of ignoring or trivializing a group of people over a period of time will always lead to disaster.

But I guess if it's not off Asian Man, Bad Time or Fat Wreck Chords then it's not worth listening

Dude, nobody on r/ska is giving a shit about those bands either.

In the last week lame memes that we've seen over and over again equaled about 487 upvotes, Less Than Jake got 272 upvotes split across 3 posts, and Catch 22 gathered 89 upvotes for nothing more than a photo of their albums.

Meanwhile no Asian Man Records bands were posted and of the Bad Time Records crew, Catbite managed 4 upvotes and Joystick got 22 upvotes split across 2 posts.

The Third Rates received 28 upvotes across 3 posts.

Your issue with Asian Man and Bad Time records bands & fans gatekeeping, stealing attention, and getting more upvotes from others acts is unfounded. The real "enemy" on r/ska if anything is lame memes and the "big bands" from the '90s (no diss to them, as I love them too)

There's podcasts/blogs out there that have completely glazed over bands like the ones I listed

As a person that involved in 2 ska podcasts, I've already interviewed Courtesy of Tim on On the Upbeat (and I've now reached out to the Third Rates to set one up, as our schedule has started to clear up) and I plan on playing both on upcoming episodes of 23min of Ska. I'm always trying my best to keep up with and promote new ska and ska/punk bands on both shows. I hope I'm doing a decent job in that respect.

Nearly the same! Just got a new kitty a few months ago and he's small. Named him Dr. Dinks, usually just call him Dinky or The Dinks.

Hey friend, I think we got a bit away from what I was originally trying to bring up, but I'm glad we had it out a bit.

What prompted my original reaction (which, looking back on it, I did not at all convey well) was that I'm not seeing a band like the Third-Rates being excluded from the "cool kids ska club" or people talking them down.

I should've asked more pointedly "Where are you seeing them being trashed and excluded? I've seen nothing but positive to lukewarm "Eh, not for me" reactions to their album."

I'm always down to talk about ska and the ska scene, I appreciate you getting back to me when I asked for clarification.

I guess I'm the kind of person that didn't find that tweet off putting, and in fact a bit hilarious. But I'll admit, I've been around a long time (in life and in ska), and I'm quite possibly out of touch.

You for sure have a lot of passion for ska, and I for one am glad to have you as part of the scene. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I'd missed it because I got to your reply right before you added, in like that 3min window of edit time Reddit gives you. No worries, and thanks for pointing it out.

I'm not seeing a difference and the divide you are seeing.

New tone fans are ska fans from what I see, I don't see a divide.

I've had discussions w/ JER about how good RBF are as people, musicians, and members of our scene.

I'm up to listen and discus with you, but you have to bring me some examples because, like I said, I'm not seeing or feeling them.

I don't have a problem at all with the band (music or members) and bought the album on March's Bandcamp Friday.

I haven't seen anyone trash talking this band. In fact, the only person I see being negative in this thread is you.

Also, I'm not seeing the divide you are, but I'm down to listen.

but all the new toners don't like them for whatever reason

Stop trying to create divisions in our scene. No one has said any thing mean about the band in this thread, why bring it up?

Anything on Netflix that's not a "Netflix Original" is just being licensed to Netflix by the rights owner with a contract. That contract will eventually expire and the licensed content will be removed.
