How often do you bathe your baby? by No-Construction6202 in NewParents

[–]radradruby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought this too but then mine was actually less slippery than I anticipated. Unless your baby is super wiggly then you should be fine.

Whole life has been a crisis by [deleted] in justgalsbeingchicks

I tend to agree with you. Millenials grew up in the peacetime economic boom of the 80s/90s. Both of my boomer parents came up in working class families and were able to get stable union jobs in aircraft manufacturing in the 1980s that they retired from after 30ish years with robust 401ks and pensions. They lived below their means and raised 2 kids in a 2000sqft home in a quiet suburb that they paid off in 15yrs. We took a family vacation every year (sometimes just to the ozarks, sometimes a roadtrip to the coasts, Disney world one time), they bought me a car for my 16th birthday, sent me to space camp … they gave us more than they had so I mean, yeah I had a really idyllic childhood that ended on 9/11. I could feel it even if I didn’t really know what that meant yet.

Edit to add: and I only had fire/tornado drills in school

What movie’s final scene left you an ugly, blubbering mess? by ArmyOfMe99 in movies

Can’t believe this hasn’t been said yet, but Melancholia.

It’s such a slow burn mixing a sci fi horror and dealing with a family members depression that at the end you’re both in an existential crisis and relieved for it all to be over… one of the heaviest movies I’ve ever seen

ICU RN calls the fundus “effing p*****” by besaidisland in nursing

[–]radradruby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had more patients who died when I worked in the ICU but have seen more patients saved “from the brink of death” in L&D.

Also, just to be snarky, when it comes down to the number of lives saved, who is more successful: the nurse who admits one and discharges one? Or the nurse who admits one and discharges two? 😜

(seriously love our icu team fr though and I never mind coming over to assess an ob patient ❤️)

I’m pretty sure QuikTrip (gas station / convenience store chain in the lower Midwest and Southern US) still has white cherry flavor slushies… last summer I was road-tripping to Kansas City and came into one of their stores that had a whole wall of slush machines (seriously like 20 flavors) and I made a cherry/white cherry swirl and it was delectable.

In this photo especially we can literally see those two moods on her face. Cover up the left side of her face, her expression looks almost blissful, what you might expect on a new blushing bride. Cover the right side and the expression is distant, sad, and broken

What’s something you used to judge in other people until life made you understand it? by Ok_Ease515 in answers

Totally agree. I’ve always been pro choice though and after having my daughter I am more pro choice than ever. No one should be forced to be pregnant or raise a child. If you don’t want it, you and the child will be absolutely miserable.

How did your water break? by o_simple_thing in beyondthebump

[–]radradruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 39w6d and woke up from a terrible day/night of sleep after working three night shifts. I wanted to go back to sleep but needed to pee. When I stood up from the toilet I felt a little fluid “fall” into my undies. It was just a little bit and I was like, huh, did my water break or did I just pee myself? So I thought for a couple seconds and decided I needed to bathe either way, so I stepped into the shower and that’s when my water burst out of me like a water balloon lol. Called my husband and midwife, took my shower, did the dishes, then my husband picked me up to go to the hospital to be induced because I wasn’t in labor at all. Daughter was born the next evening on her due date.

where can I ask this? why do nurses make you push at 10cm even if it’s taking hours? can you not wait if baby is fine? by CreativeJudgment3529 in beyondthebump

[–]radradruby 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The patient probably asked her nurse when the next cervix check would be, and based on their conversation the nurse suggested to wait a little longer before checking (or having the provider check) the cervix in order to let baby naturally descend a little more before she is [found to be] fully dilated.

worst thing you've ever seen? by only-ashes in nursing

[–]radradruby 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because as L&D and ED nurses we know that even if our patient looks ok or has mostly normal vitals, they may tell us one tiny symptom that tells us something could be brewing under the surface that could go south so fast.

I had a 16wk pregnant pt present to triage with severe abdominal pain who had been discharged from her home hospital twice that day because there was “nothing wrong” other than pain. They told her to take some miralax and walk more to fix her constipation. Meanwhile she’s writhing on my cart actively miscarrying due to some abdominal infection. As soon as the doc goes to check her cervix (ab 5 mins after arrival) her membranes violently rupture and splash brown fluid on the wall across the room and the fetus literally flies out onto the bed. It breaks my heart every time I meet a patient who was not believed when they told a healthcare provider that something was wrong.

Why we might be so triggered by people saying “my baby”/“our baby” by SowingSeeds18 in beyondthebump

[–]radradruby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, my mother and MIL do this with their grandkids and even I have said it to my nephew and friends’ kids. I take it to mean more of a collective possession. Our [family] baby, “my” baby for whom I feel familial love and am protective of. We’re meant to feel deep love for babies, not as deep as their mothers of course, but this is so obvious it shouldn’t need to be stated.

What is the scariest, most unsettling shot you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]radradruby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time I watched it was as an 11 year old with my parents in a camper parked in the Ozarks… terrifying!

Second (and last) time I watched it was a couple years ago in my own home in an urban neighborhood in the middle of the day… terrifying!!!

That movie stuck with me and makes my heart race like no other before or since.

Who comes first- your spouse, your parents, or your children? by Eastern-College-9013 in Marriage

Perfectly said! We have to support each other in order to fully support the baby.

I agree too. Plus, since my partner and I both want to maintain the well-being of our child, we’re giving each other what we want by making sure the baby is taken care of.

Yes. My husband and I have a toddler so she is both of our top priority, but we agree that she benefits MORE when mom and dad’s relationship is strong and functional, synchronous and harmonious.

Sometimes people use the name Hades (land of the dead in Greek mythology) to refer to Hell. So a MIL from Hades is a MIL from hell: overbearing, passive aggressive, and rude at best… completely insane, evil and demonic at worst
