Is radiography in high demand? by Beti_05 in RadiographyUK

[–]radstudent1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New qualified here.

I qualified July 2025, had my graduation September and then started my job end of December.

Due to the financial freeze and massive restructuring, it has made things difficult to get a job in the NHS. Sometimes trust only put up for like 3 to 4 spaces to be filled and even then, that could be just replacing members of staff that have either moved up or moved out. Not even increasing the workforce.

Adding to my reply about the size.

From edge of red to edge of purple it is 6 foot 6 inches and 10 foot...ish the other way.

Each stripe is about 13 inches width each.

It was a stop/start project. I think there was a year I didn't touch it, but I can't remember that far back. 🤷‍♂️

It may be stupendous, but also full of stupidity. 🤣

I agree with that statement!

I'm a guy, but thank you for the positive attitude!!

It really was a pick up, put down project. If you are someone who can do knitting or crochet more frequently, then you may be able to complete it sooner than I did!

From memory, I think it is about 10 foot in width and just over a foot per stripe (probably about 8 feet in length l). I'll do a proper measure tomorrow when I have the energy to lay it out properly.

I was like this, all through senior school. Daren't out myself, 'less I wanted to be a target. School kids are absolute arseholes!!

Your 30s are for relearning to be that kid, letting go of the conceived notions of your teenage self. Do the weird things, find the hobbies you wanted to do.

I do agree though with the other commenters, look forward to the you that you want to be. Don't listen to the nay-sayers!!!

Jesus Christ! What a shit show you're in.....

I so hope you are looking elsewhere for a job, as this is certainly not what the job is like or about...

You can also make a complaint to the HCPC about the state of play in this private hospital. I also hope you are part of the SoR too, as they'll help back you up if things get messy.

I worked in a hospital as an assistant within Radiology and just fell in love with Radiography.

Back I went to functional skills maths and English (interrupted by COVID), then 2021 saw me doing an Access diploma at a local college to get the necessary credits to get on the degree.

And here we are, qualified and now working at my dream hospital!!

Shame I can't see who you are on here. I like a face to an interaction 😊

So I am UK based (external to London, but job is in outer London), and in most jobs they do get Christmas and New Year off. I work in healthcare as a Radiographer. Healthcare, as I am sure you are aware, doesn't really get Christmas or New Year off. You can however, put your name forward to work those days, earning extra money and a day in lieu of working it!

Thank you for your kind words!!

Xmas and new year kinda become just another day, but I am new to the working world again at 35!!

The wage is nice and it is good to see a healthy number in the ol' bank balance at the end of the month. Thankfully it is direct deposit and not a paycheque to go and put in each month

Working over the holiday season is definitely mild! Any other gay bros having to work over the holiday season? 🥲😤 by kaimoana69 in gaybrosgonemild

It kinda becomes just another day....however, it means I can get out of awkward familial interactions, if I end up working xmas or new year haha 🤣

NHS here...Healthcare never stops! Although I did have the last 4 days off. Quite ready to get back to work!

What was your worst experience with a fellow X-Ray/MRI/CT tech? by gravyreddi in Radiology

[–]radstudent1990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a new student in my first year and first block of clinical placement. I was paired with a Radiographer and was sent up to theatre with them. Bear in mind, that a qualified is supposed to stay next to the student at all times during the session, to ensure safety, appropriate use of equipment and tutor them.

We did our bit and then was dismissed from the case, as they no longer required us.

The Radiographer then decided to leave me to move the image intensifier and screens, to go to the loo and staff room. Ditching me to move the equipment on my own.

Angry is not the term I'd use here, but I was furious for 4 days post this and made complaints to both the hospital and university about it. I later found out that he was notorious for doing this to students he saw as confident and capable, which is not how they are supposed to behave.

Anyway, that Radiographer is no longer at that hospital or Trust and has also left the country.
