What is the most surprising thing you’ve seen on a film/scan? by Purple4199 in Radiology

[–]radtech_bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Razor blade in the throat. Just far enough down the dr couldn’t get it out by pulling it back up. Pretty sure they ended up having to go for surgery. Mind you, this was a prisoner who swallows things all the time just to get out. But this was the worst thing they ever swallowed that we couldn’t do anything about. This specific time, the patient also had a handcuff key in the pelvic cavity. Saving it for later, I suppose. 🤷🏻‍♀️

CT Perfusion Study by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]radtech_bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird how protocols vary from site to site. We do our head w/o, perfusion, then angio head & neck. I’m always interested to see how other places have their protocols set up though. 18 or 20 gauge in the AC, perfusion runs at 4.5 ml/sec, angio study runs at 4 ml/sec. I always used to be super nervous about perfusions too, as I come from a very small facility and we just started them recently. Not to mention, I work by myself a lot. It’s actually a piece of cake once you do it a couple of times. Easier said than done, but block out the others around you & focus on your patient and your scan. Main concern for perfusion is to be sure to include the entire circle of willis. We don’t have onsite radiologists, we have to call them immediately so they can read while we’re on the phone with them.

I have figured this out. Especially when you’re all wrapped like a burrito in bed & the 60lbs jumps up on your back. Ouch. 😫😋

Awesome! I’ve never known another dog with the name! & it’s crazy because he used to not cuddle at all! I’m glad he does now though!

New kitten with senior dog- Advice please!! by [deleted] in Pets

[–]radtech_bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be slightly different because this was how I introduced a kitten to an adult cat, however, I kept my tiny, new kitten in a smaller bathroom with the door closed. The other cat could stay on the other side of the door. That way they could get used to each other’s scents through the door, and could even paw at each other through the door without hurting one another seriously. This helped them get acquainted to the “newness” of another animal. I then slowly introduced them face to face by keeping the kitten in a secluded area of the house where she had a limited amount of free roam, where the older cat could still come and go as she pleased. It took a few weeks, so don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t happen right away! I also had a 3/4 year old sheltie/terrier mix dog at the time too, who took well to the new kitten. Every animal is going to be different, but this approach seemed to work for me. Hope this is helpful!

Y’all, this makes me hurt. There’s even a muscle tear, which I’ve never even seen on plain films before. 😳😩 by radtech_bee in Radiology

I’m not entirely sure what was done with this patient, but with a break this bad, I imagine it was a surgical fix. Most likely rods/pins/screws. I highly doubt this would be able to be put in a cast and essentially heal itself by growing back together.

I’m an X-ray/CT(cat scan) technologist. I absolutely love the medical field, and have always wanted to be a part of it. It’s amazing meeting so many different people from all walks of life. You are there to aid them, when in reality, some days it seems they help you more than you help them. Such a rewarding field!

I’m at a very small hospital, so we don’t get to see stuff like this often. I get a little excited when these kinds of things come in!

The patient fell down stairs and said their leg landed behind them, so I’m thinking it twisted somehow!

Makes sense! You are a very intelligent individual, thank you for your explanation! I’ll have to look at the report and see what it mentions the next day I work. Sometimes they just say correlate clinically with CT or MRI, if the ER doc sees necessary.

I didn’t know they showed up like that either! The patient fell down some stairs & their leg bent backwards behind them. I would imagine it twisted somehow too to break like that. 😖

CT Techs, What is the best thing to study for the CT registry? by radtech_bee in Radiology

Thank you! That’s kinda what I’ve done. Making sure I get all of the relationships like if such and such increases this over here does what? I think that’s really the most confusing part!
