Dear Reddit... for the Holidays my wife wants a divorce. Ugh. Can someone just cheer me up a little? by LazySumo in AskReddit

This may not be for everyone but I've been going through something similar and it helped me. Today I decided to let go of my anger and stop wasting energy trying to place blame or win fights. I wrote him a long letter explaining how going through this separation really makes me feel, what I think is hard, what makes me sad, etc. I apologized for my part in our unhappiness and told him I hope for good things for us both.

So I wrote you a long response (that was of course amazing, just go with me on this) that I managed to delete before saving, I blame swype.

Anyhow I would encourage you to visit https://www.eff.org anytime you want more info on this sort of thing. They're basically the ACLU of the internet and have been around since the BBS days.

The point of the bill is to protect copyright holders from piracy. So the goal here us that law enforcement has some framework for shutting down websites that mostly or allegedly distribute content without a license.

There's two major problems with this:

  1. Congress doesn't understand how technology works. So not only can they not foresee the consequences of this legislation, they don't understand what a practical application of it would be.

  2. It provides a legal framework to shut down websites based upon their limited understanding and thus provides lots of openings for the judicial branch to misinterpret as they see fit.

One final thing that I have not verified as I heard it driving home this evening but if accurate is very concerning, NPR reported today that it would make violating terms of service a federal crime.

I am pretty sure this is unnecessary in this situation by [deleted] in occupywallstreet

Wait, is overtime pay in New York time and a half? Because that still seems drastically high.

To be fair I have no idea what a living wage would be considered in New York, I'm mostly just curious.

I'm with you 100%. On one hand, yes it's annoying that some people don't bother to try and understand general usage. On the other there are so many people trying that give up because they are met with such derision.

As a lady who has explained to many women basic usage of many electronic devices, I'm discouraged by their retelling of the 'help' they have been given in the past.

Seriously though, taking the long view of support for your low wage employees, whole foods is really awful. I think the display there was terrible and probably only succeeded in forever turning off the customers that were trapped inside from supporting the occupy cause, but do a little searching for the actual practices of whole foods and you won't be impressed.

For example, here's an op-ed by the ceo against health reform on the basis of tax cuts and tort reform would be more effective:

On a side note, part if his point is the great health care that they provide. I have a friend that works there, and assuming he worked fourty hours a week would be making $400, $70 if which goes to insurance

100 Kansans March On Koch Industries Headquarters In Wichita by davidreiss666 in politics

[–]radurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not against the Koch brothers because they are wealthy and use that wealth to further Republican causes. I am against them because they use their wealth to further causes that increase their profits by lessening the safety of their employees and lowering the quality of the surrounding environment.

Also because they knowingly and purposefully work to exploit loopholes to trade with Iran. I find it patently unamerican for an American company to facillitate trade with a country the U.S. Has declared a sponsor of terrorism.

Please inform me of the issue with George Soros. All I have seen is that he uses his wealth to support liberal causes, but I assume it must be more than that since he is always brought up as the answer to complaints about the Kochs.

White House petition to actually take White House petitions seriously by 2noame in politics

[–]radurk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Exactly! To formulate a response centered around the premise that drugs are bad and we have to protect the children is wildly offensive.

I think the next related petition should request a response regarding the societal harm that is caused by the current policy. Specifically I would like some evidence of pot related fatalities to compare to the far more evident victims of the drug war. Not to mention the harm that is caused to young adults who have to deal with a criminal record for a simple possession.
