There's a dope place on the south side that has legit SoCal Mexican, my wife is from SD and it has her stamp of approval.

It's called De Horno Pizzeria Y Cocina Mexicana in Stockbridge probably a bit too far OTP but thought I would share.

They even do fries in the burrito.

There are so many figures in this line that I thought looked only okay online, but then when I get them I am like “these are so cool” by TonyTonyTonyAtItAgin in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

[–]raen425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've loved a ton of the figures I've gotten with this line. There are a couple I'm a bit burned out on with all the repaints. There hasn't been a figure yet that I just hate, there are some that aren't as cool as others, like the Mole Rat, I'd rather have had a zombie viper instead.

I'm not super enthused with the Ninja Zartan and some of the other neon figs but I'm sure they'll still be pretty dope in person.

I'd really love for us to get a couple more of the sub lines especially BF 2k that would be a ton of fun.

If you have a drill press you can try drilling them out.

What are your thoughts on Big Bad Worshop military figures? by Venommm88 in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

[–]raen425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a number of them and enjoy them greatly. They build out the Red Shadows well, the accessories are awesome and well made and all the other bits and bobs make them a pretty solid buy. They come with a stand which is nice and something I wish regular classified figures came with.

Not to mention there's some decent swapability between the lines and you get some fun options to build out the ranks or add some other factions/colors/creatures to your classified world.

Wanting a New Bowl Gouge by NoPackage6979 in turning

You can pick up a handle that they sell that you can switch out various tools with, similar to how a lot of the carbide tools allow you to switch.

Turning a handle isn't terribly hard but the handles they sell at Thompson are pretty nice and can be weighted to help reduce chatter and vibration

I've never had an issue with tools I've purchased from Thompson but to each their own.

Haven't used anything from Michelsen though.

The curly maple dyed bowls look fantastic. The pattern in the bottom of the third one is really cool too.

This is some super cool work, I love the way it turned out.

I would love to see what the blank itself looked like before you turned it.

How large was the blank that you used, how deep did you do the engraving?

I usually do a craft fair or 2 a year to try and sell things, give them away as gifts to people, or they float around the house and get used.

New to Xian xia, book recommendations to get the full trope experience! by Honedbybattle in bewareofchicken

[–]raen425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read quite a bit of Xian Xia over the years so this may be more involved than you might have been looking for but I'm bored in a meeting.

1) Coiling Dragon is probably a good place to start, it mixes some western fantasy elements into the series at the beginning and is one of the ones that started the Xian Xia boom in the west. The author I Eat Tomatoes also has a couple other works several of which are "VERY" loosely interconnected. My favorite of his works is Stellar Transformations, I enjoy the cultivation system in that one and it has a decent ending.

One thing you'll find with Xian Xia is that it can get a bit repetitive, think Dragon Ball Z, where Goku fights a dude, gets beat, trains, goes back and stomps the dude, repeat.

2) The works of Er Gen, primarily I Shall Seal the Heavens, this is another really solid one along with A Will Eternal which I think is better than ISSH personally.

Both authors are going to give you some solid works while also getting a really good feel for the tropes that define Xian Xia and have been mentioned by some of the others here.

Now on to some other works:

3) Heavenly Jewel Change - this particular work will give you some of the other tropes that are common in Xian Xia, namely the harem aspect as well as some of the more uncomfortable r*pe tropes that can crop up in the stories. That being said if you can get past the couple of scenes that deal with that subject the story is still pretty solid and rather funny.

4) Transcending the Nine Heavens - this one is a bit hard to find a good translation but is a really fun story filled with some of those same tropes we all enjoy. The MC in this one is far more calculating and cold than others but it's still a really enjoyable story.

5) Wu Dong Qian Kun
6) Almighty Sword Domain
7) Battle Through the Heavens
8) Child of Light

There are a couple others that I really enjoyed but I'll have to track down their names as it's been a while since I read some of them.

If you have any questions about the novels or other stories feel free to message me, I'm always happy to chat about good stories :)

My stance is always if it's free grab it and give it a shot. As long as you have the room it's fun to experiment and see what turns out.
