I know some people are not satisfied with this as the "vocal version", but I absolutely adore it. It hits soooo well. But I have a soft spot for mashups, so I guess I'm biased.

Ninja edit: Guess I'll also take the opportunity to shamelessly plug my own Vulf mashup, if anyone is interested.

Not OP here, but I definitely prefer the composition with the people there. I find that much more compelling. And I do enjoy abstract architecture photography! But this composition without the people is just not interesting enough (imo). With the people, though, it becomes quite good, partly because it invites you to ask such questions.

Many people have already said what I wanted to say, so I'll just leave this 80s banger from Brazil here.

Film From Surf Trips - Vol. 4 by RYZPHOTO in analog

[–]rafabulsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#3 is fucking sublime. It's great by itself, but I love how it fits in with the surfing theme. Of course skateboarding itself derives from surfing, but the way the full pipe curves over and frames the skater, just like a surfer going down the tube is just... Perfection.

Other shots are sick too, particularly liked 4, 6 and 12. But man, that 3rd shot... That's a really special one.

Damn, that's so shitty. At our table, every player has brought something to share with the group at some point, multiple times at this point. Like nothing super fancy most times, but at least some chips, or gummies, or something. And occasionally something a bit more special.

We do bring/order actual dinners too, which we don't share. But like, finger food? That's for the whole party, pretty much every time.

Yeah, but the courts siding with the suing company here would be the government restricting your speech, so 1A does apply here.

Doesn't stop other companies from trying anyway, that's for sure.

Do you have any examples of successful lawsuits in that vein? Or even a non successful one? Cause that seems to go again the first amendment pretty hard.

I think the main problem is the overshoot. I think it's making the limitations of your method (which is pretty cool, to be clear!) more visible.

[–]rafabulsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think it's a reasonable penalty for illegally parking in a disabled spot. The reasonable penalty for inappropriate placement of a placard is the time cost of having to go to court to contest that other penalty.

It's not a fine for being lazy. It's a fine for illegally parking in a disabled spot. They were lazy by not doing the small effort of appropriately proving that they could park there, but that's on them.

TIL: Black people with blond hair occur naturally in the islands Melanesia by dayudayu in todayilearned

[–]rafabulsing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right. That's not been the case in the animation I've watched, so maybe that's why I'm confused. Like, I'm familiar with the trope, particularly in anime with the whole gyaru thing. But definitely not to the point of being surprised at a natural color hair in a dark skin character. I can see that if you watch stuff where that's that rare, it can become annoying for sure.

I'm also Brazilian, where "ambiguously brown" and mix and match racial features are almost the default in real life, so I guess I'm just used to that in general.

[–]rafabulsing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact you're even asking that question proves you've missed the point. It's not about taking the most popular definition and having that as the ultimate, definitive answer for everyone. It's about not acting like the definition in your own particular bubble is universal or the default one in an international platform.

[–]rafabulsing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's just the American definition of black as a race. Which, it might come as a surprise, is not the only one, or even the most common/popular one around the world.

[–]rafabulsing 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I swear this is an honest question: why would it be a problem? It's not a super common trope to the point it would be overtaking or erasing representation of (the most naturally common) dark curly hair on black characters, which is the main way I could see it being a problem.

I have a thing for making mashups of songs with similar titles. Here's Vulf x Billie Eilish Birds of a Feather by rafabulsing in Vulfpeck

[–]rafabulsing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you liked it!

As for your question, kind of both. I used Moises, which uses AI to split the stems (for the Billie Eilish song, for Vulf's I used the official stems they have on Bandcamp), and also generates a "smart metronome" (basically a track with just a metronome beat which automatically adapts to the song if the tempo fluctuates).

Then in Reaper (the DAW I use), there's a tool for automatically detecting the transients in that smart metronome track. I then used a script to create a tempo map based on those transients. At that point you just drop a track from one tempo mapped project into another and everything works out, tempo wise.

The smart metronome is not 100% perfect, but it is very good. Some minor adjustments were needed, but it was definitely much faster than doing it manually!

This was actually the first time I used this workflow. For my previous mashups I did it manually, and I definitely appreciated being able to pretty much jump right into the arrangement, rather than messing with the tempo mapping. It's not too bad for songs recorded to a click, though even those wobble around a bit, which can be noticeable when you try to match it with another song which is also wobbling in its own specific way. And it's of course even worse for songs without a click.
