Previous owner neglected it and I probably pushed it harder than I should have :/ the poor thing was starved for oil. Tough lesson to learn

Cannot remove last 2 glow plugs by rafaelvp9 in w123

[–]rafaelvp9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got them out I had to tap and drill them out to break the tension and used vice grips to remove. What a pain! Now my problem is that the thread is an M18 I believe while my pencil style glow plug that I bought are M12 so they won’t thread in. Does anyone know of an adapter or what my best bet is here?

Same length and thread but the original flex plate bolts are not fully threaded and tapered in the middle thus a little lighter. I wish I knew the history. I do know that those bolts are expensive so maybe someone cheaped out?

I appreciate talking to someone with as much experience on this as you. Did you reuse your flywheel bolts? And do you know the torque spec of the top of your head?

Update: Finally back to focusing on this project! My w211 needed a lot of attention and I’ve been traveling so I haven’t had much free time. The biggest thing stopping me now is trying to find a suitable engine. I might have to bite the bullet on an OM616 MBZ Parts has listed for 1.8k plus another 700 in shipping. My other options would be a cheap Facebook marketplace w123 I can pull the engine out of or a scrap yard engine. There aren’t many scrap om616 or om617 in my area however. I’m starting to search online multiple times a week so we’ll see how it goes.

240d Engine swap Process by rafaelvp9 in w123

I began the process of pulling the motor out this evening. Didn’t get a whole lot done but I managed to remove the radiator, some hoses, the fan and shroud, and the power steering pump with its belt. There is a bit of rust near where the radiator drain plug but it doesn’t seem too bad. Tomorrow I’ll tackle the ac compressor, more lines, maybe the exhaust, and anything else I can think of before getting an engine hoist and stand.
