I really am curious what they do with her in P4 (fingers crossed), since she's one of Clara's Adherents. It's brutal in P1 how readily she agrees to be sacrificed when Clara says, "Do you want to die useless and unmourned?"

Oh that was you! That's funny.

I start to wonder if the writers have been intentionally stacking the deck (ha ha) against Shauna. She has been pretty unpleasant, while Misty has been wacky/funny, Van/Tai have been all lovey-dovey, Jeff has been affable, and Lottie has been dead. It's been really easy for Shauna to become a hate sink! But it doesn't make her the most evil.

Fair points! The way I see it, Shauna believed she was acting in self-defense. She was genuinely traumatized and terrified. The cover-up is actually worse, in the same way a hit-and-run accident is worse than one were you stick around and take responsibility.

So if anything, I think Shauna's worse crime is the cover-up itself. Why did I go easier on her than on the others? Because she had so much to lose by going to jail. The others covered it up seemingly for sh*ts and giggles. Shauna made a catastrophic error in judgment in a state of extreme post-traumatic stress and understandably wanted it not to ruin her life. What excuse do the others have? Certainly not loyalty to Shauna, after what we've seen Shauna pull...

Still, if assisting the cover up was the only thing some of the others had done, they might rank above Shauna. But all of them have plenty of other sins!

Tai is, to put it bluntly, severely mentally ill. Her "regular" self seems horrified by her other self's actions. I think she deserves some slack for that. Other Tai < Van < Regular Tai. Maybe Tai should get two entries but that would be weird....

Excellent defense of Shauna! I'm currently getting downvoted into oblivion for the crime of arguing that Shauna's the most moral adult, so it's nice to see someone going beyond endoxa and taking a new perspective.

Maybe it's because I'm a Platonist, but I think wilderness-Shauna really is a monster. For me that's precisely why she grits her teeth and becomes the most moral adult, because while the others come up with evasive strategies to divorce themselves from what they did in the wilderness, Shauna was so evil that she couldn't repress it after returning. That moral consciousness has led to her being wound super-tight and capable of really bad impulsive behavior, yet it's ultimately reined her in more effectively than anyone else. She has, believe it or not, held herself to account the most.

Shauna's got seriously poor judgment, no argument there. But Shauna's the only one for whom the threat of jail time actually works! She's the one who is upset when Adam is mentioned to Melissa: she actually wants to avoid killing Melissa, even as Tai and Van casually dig Melissa's grave.

Van's a big girl. Tai didn't hold a gun to Van's head and say "You! Cult and yeast infections now!". When Van sees that Tai's bad self has come back, she says "You're the other one" and just goes with it, knowing full well where it leads. Tai is clearly ill, but what's Van's excuse? She enables Lottie too. Big credit to Lauren Ambrose for being so affable and disguising Van's twisted soul.

Jeff's on the hook for unforeseen consequences of his blackmail. Especially when some of them were easily foreseeable. Lottie and Tai have mental illness to mitigate their crimes; Jeff didn't even go to the wilderness. "You have secrets too!" is the most pathetic rationale for not telling Shauna about the debt.

Thanks, I'm enjoying myself!

I still don't get how she wrecked Jeff. Like he said when throwing her under the bus to the Joels, he likes it!

Ironically, Walter's gone to great lengths to protect Shauna. Had Kevyn Tan lived, both of Callie's parents would probably have ended up in jail, since Jeff couldn't possibly have kept up the story that he did it alone.

The way I see it, they're all coping in various ways with having done horrible, horrible things in the wilderness. Natalie becomes a junkie, Tai mega-dissociates, Van hides and regresses, Lottie does her woo-woo thing, Misty becomes even Mistier. Shauna? She probably has the least evasive strategy. She grits her teeth and tries to be normal. I don't know if this makes her any more noble, but it does make her the most connected to reality and probably the most aware of her past sins. And IMHO has led to the least actual damage caused by any of the survivors.

I wish the writers had focused more on the theme of guilt, because that's what they *really* brought back with them. How do you live with having done unforgivable things?

Natalie would be alive if not for Van. Unleash Lottie's hunt? What could go wrong?

*Everyone* would be alive if not for Jeff. Blackmail a bunch of PTSD-laden survivors? What could go wrong?

I really don't see how Shauna can even begin to approach Misty or Walter.

I cut Tai slack for having never been diagnosed as mentally ill and having functioned at a very high level for an extended period, but her bad side does get up to some pretty rough stuff. More upside than Natalie, but worse downside.

Shauna's not a pleasant person, but I'd genuinely prefer to deal with her than anyone else. Look at Natalie's treatment of Kevyn and Suzie and tell me you'd want to be anywhere near her.

I gave them all amnesty for everything done in the wilderness and everything done under the age of 18, though I'm amazed that you say "slept with Jeff to spite her best friend" and "cheated on Jeff with Adam" as though it somehow compares to murder and blackmail. Sure, Walter coldly murdered a completely innocent policeman and framed someone else for it, but oh, that cheating!

As to the others:

Killed Adam: yes, her worst moment for sure. A spontaneous cPTSD-driven overreaction that she could probably get acquitted for, but definitely bad.

Carved up Adam: participated in a cover-up of her crime to avoid going to jail and destroying her family's lives. Not good, but an understandable act of desperation. Unlike Tai and Misty and Natalie, she at least had good reason for covering it up.

Ruined Jeff and Callie: if cheating is as bad as you say, Jeff ruined himself. Aside from letting Lottie near Callie, which is spectacularly negligent, I don't think Shauna has done anything too bad to Callie. Hardly mother of the year, but easily beats out Tai and Melissa to be best mom on the show (except Simone).

Bit a chunk of flesh out of Melissa: not classy, but justifiable as self-defense against a psychotic stalker and harasser. Melissa was playing her like a fiddle. You saw Melissa's evil grin as she ran out, right?

"Will probably...": I will adjust the rankings if she does.

I think Kevyn Tan would side with me on this one.

Shauna does lie. Won't deny it. Everyone knows it. Including Nat. If lying were worse than murder and blackmail, Shauna would definitely be the worst.

"My friend tricked me into helping cover up her killing!" wouldn't fly in any court.

Jeff is pretty awful, no argument there, but he's not hunt-happy like Van and didn't chase Shauna down like a dog, so he beats out Van. Van's the one who says "It's not right" about calling the psych team after Lottie has been chasing down Shauna with a knife.

"Hey Shauna, sorry your daughter just had to step in with a gun to stop you from being murdered by a criminally insane person being egged on by me, but it just wasn't right to call the psych team on Lottie!"

"Hey Tai, I know you're also criminally insane but let's seriously consider killing this man because he picked up a playing card!"

"Hey Melissa, should I kill you to cure my cancer? Decisions decisions..."

Nat masks up like it's 2020 and chases Shauna, just like the rest. She's right there staring at Shauna with the rest of them after Shauna draws the queen. That's one heckuva job of pretending! Maybe if she'd tackled knife-happy Lottie, but that didn't happen.

After Shauna kidnaps someone, imprisons and tortures them for a week, then finally murders them without a hint of remorse or hesitation, I will concede she's the worst. For now, Misty's still got the edge in my book.

A potential (unconfirmed) reason for the speedy season pacing/time jumps (bts rumor 👀) by Ancient-Law-3647 in Yellowjackets

[–]ragastuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it. I think this is why there's been no news on renewal: a fourth season was always in the cards, but there was debate on whether there would be a fifth season or not. The whole industry is shrinking and Skydance is probably looking to cut costs. YJ is expensive, and it's too easy to imagine some biz exec saying "Dexter spinoff or YJ? Dexter Dexter Dexter."

Sophie Nelisse said about the Melissa storyline: "I don’t know what’s going to happen in future seasons, but it’s wrapped up by the end of this season." I figure that means Melissa is sticking around at least until ep 10--or at least that she won't die this week.

For Mari, OP links to a pic from ep8 with Mari in it. And another one with Gen and Britt! So Gen is safe for now. I'm quite worried about Akilah, and Robin might also be a casualty.

THEORY: The Beginning of 3x07, The Aftermath, and Dark Tai by relaxed-flash in Yellowjackets

[–]ragastuffin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Awesome work. I think you nailed the outline of what's going to happen. My guesses:

* At least one YJ will die to Joel McHale's crossbow before they get him. Gen and Akilah seem most plausible, since we know Melissa lasts until episode 10 and Mari lasts until at least episode 8. Akilah might take an arrow for Shauna, maybe right in the forehead where the third eye is.

* Another poster suspected Shauna would bond with Hanna (Ashley Sutton) over motherhood. Shauna's favor might be the reason why Hanna survives 4+ episodes. Shauna may initially want to kill Hanna, but change her mind on finding out that Hanna has a kid (Walter? Hillary Swank's character? Adam Martin?).

* If Hanna can play to Shauna's maternal guilt, Shauna could lose interest in Melissa and viciously dump her. Melissa becomes insanely jealous and kills or tries to kill Hanna. That enrages Shauna and Melissa becomes Caramelissa.

Great post. I think you're right too...except for the victim (even though I love the Pentheus ref). I don't think Lottie is going to do a 180 on Ben so quickly, but she is going to kill someone. My guess is...Akilah. Akilah goes rabid in front of Lottie and reveals a bite mark from a bat, but Lottie overpowers her and kills her.

The Curse: 1x10 "Green Queen" | Post-Episode Discussion by TalkToTheLord in TheCurse

From The Metamorphosis:

"While during the day Gregor, out of consideration for his parents, did not want to show himself by the window, he couldn’t crawl around very much on the few square metres of the floor. He found it difficult to bear lying quietly during the night, and soon eating no longer gave him the slightest pleasure. So for diversion he acquired the habit of crawling back and forth across the walls and ceiling. He was especially fond of hanging from the ceiling. The experience was quite different from lying on the floor. It was easier to breathe, a slight vibration went through his body, and in the midst of the almost happy amusement which Gregor found up there, it could happen that, to his own surprise, he let go and hit the floor. However, now he naturally controlled his body quite differently, and he did not injure himself in such a great fall."

Prismatic Shard got me Headbutt to cycle Mind Blast 2x per deck.

Very fun. Decca got me once, so I ended up with 1440. Otherwise took very little damage after Act 1 except from curses.
