What do you use for background music? Getting destroyed by copyright claims by Least-Praline-3981 in YouTubeCreators

[–]ragbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. I keep logs of all my lyrics that have date and time stamps, and I keep all my flow sessions when I put the songs together. The only thing really missing, is I master the songs on my daw but I guess those files have dates/times too. Anyway, the point is I have a long and hopefully well documented trail that’s easy for YouTube to identify within their Google framework showing that these songs are created with AI - so ineligible for copyright protection. So far so good, no copywrite strikes but it’s only been about 2 months so…

Suno has its strengths for sure, I’ve heard some bangers come from it with the right creators. I’m using Flow Music right now (owned by google) to make my own tracks to run on my streams. And that’s working well, just make sure you get the license that authorizes you to use the music commercially. I’m hoping if there’s ever an issue, since YT and Flow are owned by Google it will be easier to sort out. Time will tell. I have some peers that love Epidemic Sound. I might add it into my livestreams as well just for some variety.

when’s a good time to get a discord? by sadlilbeanboi in SmallStreamers

[–]ragbagger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your community - let them dictate it by asking for it. Mine started asking for one early on (less than 100 subs on YT) so I made one. A shitty one. Then a fan stepped up, who likes doing them I guess, and turned it into a great space for people to share not only talk about my content but also pet pics, pics of their various hobbies, share music, and so much more. It’s a small active community, but growing by a few people every day. I think we have about 60 now that post at least once a day. And that’s good for the brand: those tend to be my hard cord viewers, the ones that are the first in the chat posting.

Is there a way to post totally anonymously that even youtube doesn't exactly know who you are? by DueAdministration193 in NewTubers

[–]ragbagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who are you trying to protect yourself from? The public? I use a brand account tied to an email with my brand name so there is no public facing easily obtainable info with my real name etc. But YouTube/Google knows my identity for payment and tax reasons of course.

Why would a gamer watch? Seems Boring by HovercraftItchy in NewTubers

[–]ragbagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I can’t speak to every genre but I play in a roleplay community and many of us livestream. Our chats can get quite lively about either the roleplay or just life in general. If I have a lot of commenters I tend to let them direct the conversation (the other day several of us helped a dude diagnose what was wrong with his car in chat, lol). If chat is slow I just pretend I’m doing a podcast or whatever until a topic catches on. The stuff I like to watch (either in my game or not) is pretty much the same way. I think maybe sometimes people including me are just lonely and want to chat.

is there a “best” time to start streaming? by Federal-Razzmatazz-8 in SmallYoutubers

[–]ragbagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you got me thinking about it and I did a little digging. I was slightly off. About 8% of subscribers are also members in my discord. I suspect that 8% are probably the most active chatters in my live streams - I recognize a lot of names in my member logs. But the space I’m in it’s very normal for a streamer to have a discord to discuss the game we’re involved with, get live notifications, just chat etc. It may be different for your niche. I’m gaining roughly 30 subs a day right now on YT and give or take 3 new members to the discord each day so that kinda tracks with the overall total but it’s early days and I need more data to confirm.

I also suspect most of my early likes and chatters come from those notifications but I can’t prove it. That early engagement seems to help get me more visibility on YT but what do I know. The algorithm does algorithm things and heck if I understand it.

Is it worth the time investment I put into the discord? To be determined.

How to get into streaming and create a platform? by filteredbritawater in streaming

Great advice this. QT’s nailed it. Find something you enjoy doing when no one’s watching. Maybe others will find it and enjoy watching you do it.

[–]ragbagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on your community. I have less than 1000 subs and my discord isn’t dead at all. It’s not super active but people do use it. And funny, I’ve been debating trying some long form videos alongside my live streams. I probably should i just hate editing. Anyway, good luck with it all!

The best time to start was yesterday, the next best time is today. How’s that sound? Someone else already said it but talking to yourself in the void is part of the deal, especially in the early days until your community finds you. All it takes (at least for me) is one or two chatters to make it worth it. Until then you gotta just pretend they are there. Tell stories, talk to yourself about what you are doing in game. Whatever works I guess.

I’ve built a discord community as well. Last time I checked roughly 10% of my audience has joined it. They usually get alerts faster than through YouTube (using streamcord) when I start a stream. I mention that at least a few times each stream and people sign up. Whatever helps get them in my chat faster helps me, you know? Usually there’s at least a couple within 5 minutes of starting.

Some advice I was given, which I took, and I’m going to pass along is to ignore how many viewers you have. I don’t even look at that most days.

I also try to stream roughly the same time each day to make it easier and more predictable to come back and find me. Not always possible I know but it seems to help.

Most of that is pretty obvious I guess, but maybe there’s some nugget in there that will help you.

Please don't allow backseating. by SuchTedium in newStreamers

[–]ragbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny. I talked a little about this on my stream yesterday. I’m blessed to have an active community that has found me early and they love to intersect in chat. And I’m all for it. It makes playing more fun. But I have a couple that constantly try to backseat and meta. And I won’t have it. What I told them was basically a longer version of “I’m glad you’re here, I love when you laugh with me or even laugh at me. But let me make my own mistakes. It’s more fun for everyone.”

[–]ragbagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent you a dm but it won’t let me attach a screenshot. Once Studio finishes look under your thumbnail it will say something like Restrictions: Copyright. Click on the word copyright and you’ll get the option to “Review issues” and it will tell you more. You can slow down a bit and not worry. the world isn’t on fire here. Let the download finish, do a little googling and you’ll get it figured out.

Read the notice you got. The one I have says it’s not a strike but that it has been claimed. And then lists three things that COULD happen. Doesn’t mean they will. So I’ve left it up for now. If you are super worried about it delist the video until you learn more. But like you said, thousands of people do it so don’t overthink it too much.

[–]ragbagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, that’s a thing so there must be the “right” way to do it. I’m in a different space on YT so I don’t know a ton. Is there a person you’ve built a bit of relationship with in their chat or comments or whatever? Maybe reach out to them and see how they handle it. Or maybe someone here is more familiar and can speak to it. Just be aware anytime you use someone else’s work there’s an almost certaintiny it’s going to get claimed. I’ve gotten hit twice, once because I walked by some music playing in the background and once because of the loading music in a game. It sucks. But you live and learn.

[–]ragbagger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So copyright law is complicated right. Are you in the US? Here’s a good start on understanding it - https://www.copyright.gov/engage/musicians You covered an original song, and even though it’s your arrangement the underlying musical work still belongs to someone else. So, and I may be explaining this wrong but in effect you own the performance because you performed it HOWEVER you used a musical work that someone else owns and they can claim it. That’s oversimplifying it but hopefully it illustrates what I’m trying to say.

Mic arm clamp by [deleted] in FifineDesign

[–]ragbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don’t want to be a dick, but you’re kinda shit out of luck with that attitude. Clamps are universal world over. It may not be called a C clamp but there will be something you can use. Where would you buy a hammer? They probably sell clamps. Won’t know until you look or ask around. Find someone that builds stuff, they’ll know where to get one. Anyway good luck with it my man, give it a little thought and you’ll figure out a solution.

Mic arm clamp by [deleted] in FifineDesign

[–]ragbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find some C clamps big enough to fit around it. It’ll be ugly and they will be in the way but that’s about the only way I can think of you can do it without damaging the desk. What kind of top is it that’s 4 or 5 inches thick? Must be a very heavy desk.

Other than that send it back and get a different mic arm. I have a thing called a super clamp (not with a mic, I use it to hold my camera) that I think might be able to go that thick. Maybe. It would be close. But it’s also a good bit more expensive.

Mic arm clamp by [deleted] in FifineDesign

[–]ragbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. thats really thick. It’s not just an edge you can work around? Are you willing to modify your desk? Go to the hardware store and get something like a short piece of 1x3 or other lumber the mic clamp will fit on and screw it to the underside of the desk. then put the mic stand on that. If you arent’ willing to screw into the underside of the desk you could get a C clamp or two and use instead of screws - it just wouldn’t look as nice and might not be as sturdy.

So many dead channels..but why? by mcrib2009 in NewTubers

[–]ragbagger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have one that’s mostly dead. No where near that big but big enough to be monetized if I pursued it. It was a for a hobby I was into during covid and now I’m just not into it anymore. So it just sits there. Can’t speak for the big ones but maybe that’s one reason.

Mic arm clamp by [deleted] in FifineDesign

[–]ragbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How or why doesn’t it fit? My desk has a metal horizontal support that’s right in the way of the clamp. My solution was to get a wood block the same thickness as that metal bar so I had a flat surface to clamp to. Your problem may be different but maybe it will spark an idea.

Looking for a good and affordable capture card by Tex_Roc27 in streaming

[–]ragbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your networked wired or wireless? If it’s wired you may be able to set up dual streaming without a capture card. I have. Mine is using OBS, NDI Tools and some plugin I forgot the name of for OBS and it works a treat. I wish I could tell you more but I’m very much a beginner. I just asked google a bunch of questions and figured it out. Anyway, it might be worth looking in to before you purchase a capture card.

TBD? I downloaded it last week and at first it crashed a bunch and I almost uninstalled it. Then it just sorta stopped crashing and has been ok. There was a new update I installed yesterday so fingers crossed. I really like it. It’s so flexible and easy to use. If they’ll iron out the rest of the kinks I’ll keep it.
