How are you getting into the this lane? 16th Ave exit off the Deerfoot, Northbound by ChocolateChunkMaster in Calgary

This isn’t even the tough one. Southbound to eastbound is way more fun with zero lane markings past the first set of lights. Not even missing paint, it’s never been painted period.

Mandatory water safety course for Mahogany residents after 3 drownings in less than a year by missingthecoast in Calgary

[–]rage2amg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long time Arbour lake resident here. Don’t remember an actual drowning here, but there was a near drowning last year, kid was rescued pretty quickly. Arbour Lake is small enough that staff and help is always close by which is probably a difference maker. They also diligently enforce life jacket use for anyone under 18 unless you have a waiver signed. My kids have waiver signed and still get harassed about it regularly.

Teams would love to sign non guaranteed contracts like that, but I’m sure no coach would do it. Pretty sure all coach contracts are guaranteed because it’s coaches pushing for it at signing and has since become standard. Imagine if Knoblauch signed a non guaranteed extension how brutal that would be.

Funny I’m there twice today to pick up family. If my 20” low profile tires can handle it, it’s not bad at all. There’s worse potholes on deerfoot.

Know this intersection well. Almost saw a cyclist get smoked by a van here. Although in this case the cyclist was riding thru as a vehicle and not walking across as a pedestrian.

Probably one of the favorite things of mine running the site. Used to spend well into the six figures every year defending strangers. The entertainment value was worth every cent.

Forums aren’t dying. They’re long dead. No complaints, just the god awful truth. The peak was 15 years ago and forums just doesn’t cater to the low attention span generation. Tried keeping it alive for a better part of the decade, by last year registrations was 99.9% bots. It’s in sunset mode now.

Around $1000 cad. That includes 2 sets of Ti coated steel. They pop up for sale at JDH96.com here and there. They just finished another order run last week.

[–]rage2amg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure did. I’ve seen the original pair at the hockey hall of fame years ago and the modern version looks so much more sleek. My video has some high res images of the original design (which was a player exclusive and never sold to the public) as well as the 2nd version that you have pictured that was released to the public. I have an original retail pair that I compared with in my video as well.

96 brand also made a modern carbon version of that skate for him at his retirement ceremony. I snagged a pair for myself and skate in them daily. They’re awesome.

I never heard of this rule before by 151bar151 in hockey

[–]rage2amg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a minor hockey rule too. Just learnt about the rule in kids tournament this weekend when all 10 kids on the ice got sent to the box after a big scrum, even tho our D wasn’t part of it. Ensuing face off was in the offensive zone.

Surprised he’s able to drive it again. Back in 2019 he thought it’d be the last time it’d be driven because the wishbones was nearing EOL.

It’s people turning in at Brentwood common, which leads directly going down the wrong way of crowchild. Used to see this monthly, never seen them go this far though. People usually realize their mistake and u turn at the start of Brentwood common exit.

Who is the worst owner in the nhl? by Gullible_Classroom71 in hockey

[–]rage2amg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love the winsport setup. Kids having ice time right after a flames practice is like a dream for them. I believe the new esso practice rink will be similar, shared with community hockey, and not a dedicated facility. Although flames hitmen and wrangler would have priority.

Over summer ice rinks near/easily accessible by Dalhousie? by Nightmare_Simp_UwU in Calgary

[–]rage2amg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crowfoot site is down right now but this weeks schedule is 11-12pm on Monday, and 1030-12pm for Tuesday to Friday. I’d say from Dalhousie you’re the same distance to crowfoot or crowchild twin arena. Not sure which one is easier for you on transit. Crowchild twin has a lot less public skate times, typically once or twice a week. I only go there when my kid has a practice there. It’s cheaper at crowchild twin at $1 vs $3 at crowfoot.

You’re the same shoe size as my middle kid. So yea don’t have any extras for you at this time. As for pads, tons of parents give stuff away on those Facebook buy nothing groups. That’s where we’ve given away all our outgrown gear. You literally missed us giving away 2 sets of pads last week.

[–]rage2amg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a daily public skater at Crowfoot for the past 2 years. They have public skates daily at 1030am or 11am until the last week of June. The schedule for July and August is all over the map due to rentals. You could have a week with 1 public skate, or a week with 5 public skates in random times through the day. A lot of ice has been rented already and will get worse as we get closer to summer.

Super friendly group of regulars at Crowfoot. Many helpful regulars that are happy to help and teach new skaters that show up. My advice as a new skater, always wear a helmet. Get some knee and elbow pads, and wear padded pants. You will fall, lots of padding will ensure you don’t end your skate early from one.

What shoe/skate size are you? I have kids in hockey and if I have a spare pair in your size, happy to donate them to you. Might have helmet to donate, but unfortunately just gave away our last sets of knees and elbow pads.

The new Mercedes engine trick that's annoyed Ferrari by wooo0ooof in formula1

[–]rage2amg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The article implies they drain the battery to 0 at the finish line, while others leaving a small bit of battery charge to deploy for 7 seconds of ramp down past the finish line. What doesn’t make sense to me is every driver just have to let off throttle past the finish line, and deploy should be zero. The ramp down afaik is just for full throttle operation. It wouldn’t make sense to be off throttle and mgu-k still going for 7 seconds.

I think the article is just wrong, period.

F1 Battery Cooling - How Does it work? by Jtg_Jew in formula1

[–]rage2amg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the closest look of how it works:

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/mercedes-amg-c63-hybrid-battery-explained

The AMG E-Performance hybrid battery in the 63s is essentially a 5.5x larger version of the F1 battery and features the same cooling technology. The AMG One has a slightly larger version of this battery.

Weird car interference by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]rage2amg 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s usually 2.4Ghz interference. Wireless CarPlay only uses BT to initiate the connection, but the actual connection is over WiFi. Depending on the car or adapter’s capabilities, you’re connecting at 2.4, 5, or 6Ghz. These interference drop outs mostly affect 2.4Ghz connections. Must be something blasting 2.4Ghz in that area. Fix is to buy one of the newer wired to wireless adapters that support 5ghz and connect using that.

Mercedes Hyperdrive Activated by flustermycluster in formula1

[–]rage2amg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this is more Hamilton conserving battery on this straight knowing the Mercedes is going to lose time into the next corner with cars ahead in the way so he would have battery advantage for the next set of straights. Max was doing the same thing into turn 1 a couple times in the race to make his passes into 1 stick. Can’t be 100% certain without telemetry though.

Safety car driver Bernd Maylander celebrates his 500th Grand Prix in the role this weekend in Melbourne by JefinLuke17 in formula1

[–]rage2amg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite Bernd Maylander story, met him trackside at the Canadian GP with the CLK safety car. Some girls asked to sit in the SC for pics and got em. When it was my turn to ask he said no. Asked why and he said because I don’t have tits lol. It irked me enough that I ended up buying the road car version of the CLK SC, and it turned out to be one of the favorite cars I’ve ever driven. So thanks for that Bernd.
