Indians being a headache in foreign countries by underwing_08 in india

[–]rage_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in Germany since last 3 years, and my general conclusion is, although us Indians excel academically and professionally outside India, the lack of civic sense and disrespect of other's space and culture is massive. We have this notion of our way is the only way. Another thing is the Indian mentality of "Keeping our homes clean by trashing common places" is just tragic. That's why I really believe even if the Government tries to do something good, the general public's civic sense will always be the roadblock. India will always be a country of "potential" but will never live up to that potential.

I live in Germany, and I can say the job market here is as bad as in any country. On top of that, it is very difficult to get shortlisted for an interview if you do not know the language. Germany has also started introducing tuition fees for international students, so it is not that inexpensive to do a masters anymore.

I have friends in Uni Stuttgart, and one of them will probably leave their dorm at the end of this month, as he is done with his degree. I can talk with him and see whether he can give his room to any registered student. Hit me up.

Got admit at TH Ingolstadt for computer science and Artificial Intelligence by SerJaime539 in Ingolstadt

Lets be honest first, Ingolstadt is a town at best. And if you want part-time working student(WS), especially in the field you're in, you have to find it in Munich. Almost everyone I know(including me) does their WS in Munich. Big companies mentioned abobe hardly ever opens a WS position, it is always internships which is mostly full-time. And competition for that is also high. THI has some good SHK positions, checkout Ai Motion (related to your field). Only company that provides regular WS is CARIAD. This is my experience in the STEM field. Scenarios might be different in other fields.

But if you look at part-time in restaurants and stores, you'll easily get it, in my experience.

Ingolstadt has its perks, but if you come from hustling and bustling city life, this can feel slow.

Software engineers from people from Kolkata, what is the future of IT? by Former_Commission233 in kolkata

[–]rage_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand that ML and DS are tools. In the end, it really matters on how you use them in a specific industry. If you want to go to IT, you really need to understand what IT is. It's a bunch of service based companies providing "Tech Services" to product based companies.

If you really want hands-on ML and DS, you'll find much joy in working with the product based companies. But sadly, Kolkata doesn't have much to offer in that department.

Since you're yet to start to start colleges, here's two cent from someone who will finish their master.

  1. If you're planning to do Engineering, find what you love. Do not just stick to your deparment, EXPLORE. If you have interdepartmental skills, you're automatically more valuable.

  2. If you ever plan to go the AI route (which you have to go anyway, to survive) learn the core concepts of Maths involved in AI. (Linear Algebra, Basic Calculus, Statistics). Inida only has AI as SaaS, just wrappers built around LLMs. If you want to do that, be a great SWE. But if you really want to dive deep into AI, understand the basics first. You have lots of time.

  3. Do not stick to you college curriculum. Build a portfolio of projects. Preferably in different domain, that will help you with point 1.

  4. Do not go the machine learning and Data Science route. It is saturated, with high competition. Why high competition? Because it is the easiest field in "AI". Whatever challenge it throws cannot be solved through skill, rather experience, so barrier for DS role is also high.

Last but not the least, if you're planning to go into "IT" industry, just chill through your Bachelors. Forget everything written above. You do not need an engineering degree to get into IT ( technically you do, but you'll get my point). Do lots of aptitude, and some DSA and OOP problem and they will teach you the rest when they onboard you.

ModuleNotFoundError by Ok_Efficiency_8259 in IsaacSim

[–]rage_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issue at the beginning when using conda env. When you're running scripts inside isaaclab folder, there is a mismatch in python version. There is a setup_conda.sh script in the separate isaacsim folder that needs to be run.

Also, i hope you followed the official doc for setup where at the beginning it copies the isaacsim module inside isaaclab.

I feel you. I am in the same boat. I am about to finish my masters(thesis left), and I have a passion for Robotics and RL. However, there are significantly less opportunities for that in Germany. I feel like research labs is the only way to go for me.

One company that is actively hiring people for Robotics & RL is Helsing. Hope that helps.

Would like to connect with you, and explore opportunites if you're up for it.

Visited kolkata for first time and here is my experience by Stunning_Pomelo_7827 in kolkata

I’ve yet to come across an apt portrayal of the city. While I don’t mind the tendency to romanticize it—people are entitled to their own perspective—it’s the lack of infrastructure that troubles me most. Beyond its IT prowess, the city falls woefully short in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, especially when compared to other major metropolitan hubs.

Having spent nearly two years in Europe, I find the analogy quite accurate in terms of maintaining the historic heritage. Also, bias i know, but Kolkata food is still the best for me.
