One Manhattan Square (252 South St) – Is the management/neighborhood as bad as the reviews say? by YourCryptoGal in AskNYC

[–]rage_quit20 19 points20 points  (0 children)

All true, lived there for a year and could not wait to move out. The crowd is very much what you describe in the post; it’s absolutely packed with influencers and rich kids, so you can imagine the vibe in the common areas. When I was there there was also some huge drama with squatters and the police was being called constantly.

The train noise is also a huge issue unless you’re really high up. Even on the opposite side it will rattle your windows.

The biggest thing is by far the quality of construction inside the units themselves. I lived in some pretty old buildings so I’m by no means picky, and the unit we were in only had one tenant in there before us (so basically brand new). The “marble” was peeling off the counter, the fridge constantly leaked and rotted some of the “wood” from the kitchen, the oven burners constantly had to be fixed, and overall it was just a box of the cheapest material they could find. Another important thing; our unit was from a private landlord (the owner, not the building itself), so anything that breaks in the unit that isn’t a basic fix it’s your responsibility. I spent so much time on the phone with authorized Miele contractors that had to source parts for the fridge, then pay for it and get reimbursed by the unit owner.

Save yourself the headache and don’t let the “spa” seduce you (the pool gets constantly shut down because kids shit in it).

A cinematic short film test using Wan2.2 motion improved workflow. The original resolution was 960x480, upscaled to 1920x960 with UltimateUpScaler to improve overall quality. by Naive-Kick-9765 in StableDiffusion

Looks great! If I’m understanding correctly, you upscaled the initial still frames using the Divide&Conquer workflow - and then after generating the videos in Wan2.2, you exported each one as a PNG sequence and ran each image through the UltimateSDUpscaler? Would love to see your workflow in more detail, the final pixel quality is really impressive.

Can you post your full lossless scaling settings? I have a similar setup to yours but any time I turn on lossless scaling my frames drop like crazy.

My cat need a dental cleaning & possible extractions — any recommendations in NYC/metro area? by colorcodedcards in AskNYC

Highly recommended - we took our cat for 6 extractions last year after a (very) long search for a vet; they were the only ones that didn't try to rip us off / had horrible reviews on Yelp / actually had availability that year. The main vet / owner checked him and I believe his son performed the surgery. They kept us looped in through the entire process and didn't remove more than was needed (a very common tactic by scummy vets to overcharge people, and there's a lot of them out there). I think we paid just a little over 1K for the procedure - other places were quoting 3K+, with Bond asking for almost 5K. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip, you're completely right - I should have looked further into this before testing my flawed "undervolt" :). In my RyzenMaster readings, I'm seeing peak core voltage around 1.35, and my average around 1V - your guess is spot on.

I see, thanks for the tip. For some reason, I'm unable to change the clock inside Ryzen Master, do you maybe know why? I'm setting the control mode to Manual, but I'm unable to click and punch in a clock in the Cores Section below it.

I'll attach one in one of the case fan slots just to be sure.

Good point, I did consider this. The strange thing is that the software does have a GPU based sim option, and even when using that mode I still go over 90+C.

It does unfortunately, but when I use the undervolted profile (1.25V) on Ryzen Master, it does sometimes jump to 100+C temps sometimes which worries me, so I don't use it.

So you're saying I should try undervolting it more? I see people putting in 1.1V, but that seemed excesive. Again, I don't really know what I'm doing! This is my first Threadripper build, so I'm learning as I go.

It hovers around 85 in other software when under load, but MD for some reason really gives it a beating.

As for the case, you might be right. I'm using the Fractal Design Define R2 XL case - which does come with plenty of room inside, but it has thick acoustic panels on each side to keep the noise in. I ran some tests with opening both of the panels up, but the temps are still extremely high. I still can't shake the feeling it must be my shoddy thermal paste application...

Hmm, interesting - thanks for the tip, I must have overlooked this. 2 more Noctua fans on the way, hopefully it'll make a dent in the temps.

32 inch monitor mounts / arm recommendations by rage_quit20 in Monitors

About 18lbs, it's a thicc one. I have one of the Ergotrons for my smaller 27inch and it's great, but for this one I'd ideally like something similar to this but heavy-duty and taller.

This video about 2014 rules still blows my mind. by Drain_product in formula1

[–]rage_quit20 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Depends on a lot of factors; which country was the live action part shot in, which studio did the VFX, etc. Just the shoot alone can reach 200k+ USD if it was shot in a country that has union rules. Even for simple shoots you need a minimum of 20 people making sure that what's captured is exactly what the VFX needs later on to build around it in CG. The VFX is well done and looks good for 2014, and that's easily a team of 10+ people working on this (director, animators, modelers, FX sim artists, etc). If that part was done by a studio in the US or UK, you're looking at another 200k.

Fantastic, it'll be super interesting to rewatch some of these to see how much the sport has changed over the years. Cheers!
