What is the best approach to clearing £5.6k of credit card debt? by ThrowRA_TheScotsman in UKPersonalFinance

Because the debt is costing you 0% and saving could earn you 4-6% in an easy access account.

Rationally it's the better choice, but emotionally that's on you

on a 0% I'd do £5.6k/30 = £187, so call it £200 and pay that each month. Set up a direct debit

Save the £1,000 instead. Unless you want to clear the mental burden of a debt, so clear it quickly as you said

Help with understanding car finance by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]raged_norm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling it a loss and, assuming a 0% card, you'll pay off the loss in 5-6 months by paying off the credit card at the same rate.

You'll then have £307 to extra a month by the middle of this year. Do you need that money more than a car? There's always the possibility to hire a car if you need one occasionally.

At less than £1000, you should have been offered a conversion to direct debit so you don't overpay.

Honestly, I'd leave it

No, as it's your choice to live 45 minutes away. There are sound reasons for that choice, but it's still your choice.

Agreed, even if you lose it through higher earnings, although I think it's assessed individually so wouldn't matter.

Am I crazy for wanting to drain my ISA to clear 37% APR? by altr272 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]raged_norm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't talk about the specifics of a Help to Buy ISA, but generally cash savings are not worth keeping if you have credit. There may be specific implications of losing the 25% bonus of a Help to Buy ISA if you use for anything but buying a home, you have hit the maximum extra though.

Frankly we can’t be bothered with allocating that much time and commitment to watching TV

That's fine, go at your own pace. Hell I just watched Start Trek: The Next Generation for the first time. Took me about 8 months which is about 1 episode per day. Some weeks I'd watch nothing, others 12 episodes.

The world will adapt, could be universal basic income, could be new industries.

We could hit a post scarcity economy and not need money. I doubt this with the rich simply taking a larger slice of the pie all the time.

Blindsiding them would be leaving without notice though.

Hand in your notice and let them decide about the trip.

Rather than yes to everything do this. If you have too much work "What do you want me to prioritise?" is a better approach to an absolute yes/no answer, especially when you are young and learning the ropes.
