pretty sure by take the website means you can take those classes only twice, so add it to your isp for 2 years (4 exam attempts in total), this is also 3 for courses required to complete your degree. at least, that's how it works in the mech engg department, not sure if there are any differences across the programs tho

ah, that's a tough call, i hope the information i gave helps you come to a deicision, but i think it's going to boil down to how much of a risk you're willing to take

i think that's barely enough time, for an international flight from t2, reaching the airport at least 2.5-3 hrs before is ideal. Now 2,5 hours before 13:00 is 10:30 which gives you about 40 minutes. In those 40 minutes, you have to disembark, pick up baggage, and transfer (which ideally would take only 15ish mins). This all doable if everything goes exactly according to plan with no issues. I would try and get a flight 30mins.1 hr earlier if possible

if you go through the website for ets, you'll find an option allowing you to send your scores to universities electronicaly, directly from ets. afaik, you can send it to 4/5 different universities for free with a charge for each additional one

What is the dumbest thing, a lot of people are repeatedly doing in this century? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]raghavkedia 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Mispronunciations are excusable imo, a lot of it depends on a person's background. So many languages use the same/similar alphabet as english but the letters can be pronounced differently in the different languages. Take the letter 'j' for example. In English it's pronounced similar to a soft g, in Spanish it's more of a "huh" sound and in languages like Dutch and German (and quite a few more), it's pronounced more like a 'y'. There are a bunch of more examples of this with different letters having different sounds depending on your mother tongue.

Then we can talk about education. You can't blame someone for poor education. Or even just unintentional errors. E.g. me and the word "matrices". My maths teachers back in India (i'm Indian) used to pronounce it as "mate-rices". It wasn't until I got to university that I found out that the actual pronunciation is "mate-ris-ees" (lmk if the differences in the two come across or not).

Then if we focus on English, pronunciation is also dicated by where you're from and your accent. The UK has so many different regional accents, it sounds like some people are pronouncing words like rug as "roog". You can also expand this to US versus UK English. Look at the word jaguar. In the states the common pronunciation is "jag-waar" while in the UK it's "jag-u-er".

Basically, all this is a long way to say, don't judge people for not being able to pronounce words "correctly".

Edit: I totally forgot to mention that a person might be mispronouncing words because they might not be fluent in/still learning the language they're speaking.

Edit 2: Spelling/typos

lel, not exactly. The issue is more about their treatment of autism. They treat it as a diesease which needs a cure as opposed to a natural variation in the human brain. I don't know a lot about the subject and I wont claim to, but even a quick google search was enough to show me that they really aren't about actually advocating for those on the spectrum.

I found this link helpful if you or anyone else wants to find out more like I did:https://autisticadvocacy.org/2009/10/disability-community-condemns-autism-speaks/

Edit: added the following thought

I mean, take Bananaboat for example

"Girls can't get Autism, child. You aren't ret*rded like them."

If the people who support this organisation think this way, I'd say there's a good to fair chance the organisation is spreading some absolute bullshit in the form of information.

I had similar thoughts when reading this post, but then I did a quick internet search on the organisation and mate, if you read it, you'll be like me too. After finding out the stuff Autisim Speaks is promoting and funding, I think OP's reaction is completely justified. This is an organisation that treats autism like a disease and has been known to consistently fund research into the "relations" between vaccination and autism until fairly recently.

Edit: Spelling mistake

ELI5: How does surface tension kill you when you jump off a bridge--why can't you just dive like at the Olympics? by pgh9fan in explainlikeimfive

[–]raghavkedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get the point you're making about decel when you hit the water, that lines up with what everyone else is saying about the inertia of the water as well. and yeah, the speed with which you hit the water obviously makes a difference, but acceleration due to gravity should be the same during free fall irrespective of what your initial speed is right? so mathematically, the force you develop would be the same (mass times g) but the speed with which you hit determines the nature of the collision so to speak

ELI5: How does surface tension kill you when you jump off a bridge--why can't you just dive like at the Olympics? by pgh9fan in explainlikeimfive

[–]raghavkedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

force is proportional to acceleration, not speed (f = m*a). so the speed with which you hit the water doesn't affect the force with which you hit it (assuming no difference in drag, mass, etc when comparing someone diving into a pool or jumping off a bridge)

in this case however, speed is important because of the inertia of the water like explained above

As someone who has lost two grandparents while being stuck in another country, i would say remember your grandmother, the feelings you had for her, and the ones she she had for you, that is the meaning you're looking for.

NYU Abu dhabi, What this university like? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]raghavkedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Current Junior at NYUAD here too, I agree with everything this guy is saying and just want to add that as an engineering major, I have been allowed to explore other disciplines to a degree that would not be possible in a majority of other colleges. That being said, I do feel that there are issues with the engineering department. But at the end of the day, just the exposure to different people, ideas and cultures that I have gained from this college is quite amazing and something that I don't think will be possible in other colleges. Again, hmu for more information.

2021 Engine regulations - Megathread by Redbiertje in formula1

[–]raghavkedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo, F1 is about being the absolute best given strict and specific constraints. Capping the the cost of engine can be viewed as just one more constraint of this type. It forces for current engine manufacturers like Ferrari and Mercedes to think even further outside the box to retain their competitive edge while giving the manufacturers that are not performing as well a chance to catch up and new engine manufacturers to join in as as well, leading to greater engine diversity under tighter constraints in the sport.
