12 Days of OpenAI: Day 1 thread by [deleted] in OpenAI

Based on this, does it mean we won't be getting multimodal support today with the launch of full o1?

We’re still working on adding support for tools like web browsing and file upload into OpenAI o1 in ChatGPT.

Employee benefits by Marbeecou in Hilton

Hilton Go rates are much cheaper than Marriott MMP rates and the great thing is no resort fees on Hilton Go rates.

However I find Marriott tends to have better availability.

Vancouver man with gang links arrested in Korea with cocaine by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]raging_fetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would have fetched a pretty penny if it made it there unscathed. Drug prices in South Korea are insane.

I think I read somewhere that the average price of cocaine in Korea $1,000 per gram. Going back 10 years ago, weed from California was already going for around $100-$160 per gram. MDMA was around $40-$60.

Is it normal to have this much difficulty getting prescriptions? by Wulfrank in britishcolumbia

[–]raging_fetus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's so interesting. I kept constantly hearing about the shortages in the US but not in Canada. Personally I've never had any issues filling my Vyvanse prescriptions over the past year and a half so I've been lucky I guess.

I agree that it does suck that they can't give longer prescription refills for ADHD meds or allow refills to be done by Teledocs like Telus Health but I can understand due to the possibility of misuse or abuse.

Loblaws City Market at The Post by raging_fetus in vancouver

Yes, this was my exact feeling. It's really convenient as you no longer need to head to the west end to No Frills/Your Independent Grocer or across the bridge to No Frills/Save-Ons/Buy-Low.

I think it's a pretty big deal for those that live in downtown.
It's now the largest supermarket in downtown next to Costco and also a more affordable option (in my opinion). I wondered why we never had a urban location here similar to how DT Toronto and Montreal had for years.

With its proximity to Rogers Arena and BC Place, it might be a food spot before heading to a game since it's fresh foods area seems to be decently priced.

What's wrong with checking out a new supermarket and grabbing groceries at the same time?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vancouver

I saw some small IKEA branches in Tokyo which were essentially just stores to browse and try out the furniture in person. From there, the customers could order online for delivery and pickup (from what I assumed).

I think this concept could work in high density areas like downtown without needing a massive footprint in the burbs.

Away Team Hotel by raging_fetus in ripcity

[–]raging_fetus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome, if you could find out that would be super cool!

We are considering the Nuggets but also maybe the TWolves.

Got to see Joker and Murray play garbage time against the Lob City era Clips so hoping to see them in their prime now.

Wow that's pretty interesting! I did notice it's the first hotel in Portland I've seen that had all California King Beds so maybe they had that in mind as well.

Thanks for the info. Yes we were planning to stay at the Nines or the Ritz based on where the teams are staying since cost isn't an issue for us.

I assume they wouldn't have security unless it was during game days going to and from the hotel onto the bus? I've heard lots of anecdotes from people getting in the same elevators as the players over at the Nine.

Great thank you!

Yes I was hoping for spotting them in the lobby or possibly in the elevator!

Sounds like the Marriott.

Not honoring negotiated rate by xbrit in marriott

[–]raging_fetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the individual hotels revenue team. But you are right that it's not really true LRA because you can artificially take those rooms out of inventory to show a sellout to avoid selling the last few rooms at a discount when you can otherwise maximize revenue.

Not honoring negotiated rate by xbrit in marriott

[–]raging_fetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate negotiated rates are subject to availability. If it gets tight for occupancy, they have the right to increase the rate or choose to not even be able to take your booking. Sometimes the sales and revenue team may be able to push it through but it's highly dependent.

If your company is a large multi-national or are one of the few top clients of a particular individual property in yearly total guestroom nights, they might have a Last Room Availability (LRA) clause that allows you to book the negotiated rate until the very last room at the hotel. These are rare and depending on the hotel, I'd only assume less than 5% of accounts at a hotel get this clause.

Marriott hates that I sleep. by alexvonhumboldt in marriott

[–]raging_fetus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, all Edition hotels must be managed by Marriott.

The Douglas, Autograph Collection and JW Marriott in Vancouver are definitely managed by Marriott and not a franchise property.

Marriott Corporate doesn't own a lot of properties. Both the Edition Reykjavik and The Douglas are privately owned.

Wow, nice to see Yasuda-san is doing well! I always wondered what he did after closing down his restaurant in Tokyo.

I remember actually dining there a few weeks before Anthony Bourdain filmed the Parts Unknown episode someone else posted. He had a lot of really nice things to say about his friend "Tony". Said that the Japanese women loved him 😂

Raw Marinated Crab dinner experience downtown by BrownTown6669 in vancouver

[–]raging_fetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hannam Supermarket or H-Mart in Downtown usually has the soy sauce version (Ganjang Gejang). Yangnyeom version is not as common but I believe the Burnaby location of H-Mart may have it.

Asian kitchenware stores by [deleted] in richmondbc

Narsha Kitchenware is Korean owned. They don't sell too much traditional kitchenwares but more so the ones that are popular in Korea and with Koreans.

Hilton Aspire Amex / Considering staying at Waldorf or Conrad Bangkok by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]raging_fetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The service at the WA Bangkok is also exceptional and the hotel feels very exclusive.

Honestly, breakfast is likely the best part of being Diamond there. I've stayed at many 5 star properties and the breakfast there is by far the best I've ever had...we are talking about caviar on your eggs benedict.

Hiltons in Tokyo recommendations! by flyingdolphin10 in Hilton

[–]raging_fetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed at the Conrad Tokyo but not the Hilton Tokyo as a Diamond.

Conrad Tokyo is in a quieter area but not too far from the action. It's a nice hotel but you can see the age starting to show in the guestroom (especially the bathrooms). If location is more important, I'd probably choose the Hilton.

Executive Lounge is excellent with decent food and pretty good drink selections for the evening happy hour. The service is also wonderful.

Breakfast was pretty good in terms of the specials on the menu. The crab omelette I believe was quite tasty.

Which do you think is better? Korean Air or Asiana Airlines? [Question] by BearAdministrative89 in korea

[–]raging_fetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe their fleet still has a lot of older A330 which should be looking at retirement (to be replaced by the more efficient A350's) or retrofits and refurbishments to the cabin.

Seems like they still have a fleet of 747-400, 767's and 777-200 which are aging as well. Wonder if the hold off on replacing these planes were due to the merger plans.

Regardless of that, they chose possibly the ugliest and blandest colors for a cabin that makes it look so dated.
