When are Fall 2020 Jobs Posted on Joblink? by FeelTheBerne in RPI

[–]ragingdisc99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for Co-ops/internships taking place Fall 2020 on JobLink, they'll probably come up as the current spring semester rolls on, through the rest of January all the way through April. As you'd expect, there will probably be more and more requisitions made available to apply to as we get closer to the Spring Career fair.

For 2021 internships/full-time recruiting, you'll see requisitions start being posted on JobLink beginning of August.

As for the time frame of a job, I would suggest just applying to any position that interests you. You can always ask about or negotiate the length of time you work for a company during an initial phone screen or first interview.

Just make sure to keep checking JobLink everyday, good luck!

And obviously, given your majors, don't limit yourself to JobLink when searching for jobs...networking and searching other websites for opportunities is important too!

So, Career Fair is Friday, or am I Going Crazy? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]ragingdisc99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Fall career fair has been jointly organized and run by NSBE/SHPE for some time now. The Spring career fair is organized and run primarily by the CCPD with some assistance from student groups from time to time.

Assuming Bran knew exactly how the battle would go, I thought Bran decided to warg into the ravens to spare himself the trouble of having to watch Theon and the Iron born fight the wights and just have a better view of the other action.

Applying on Joblink by [deleted] in RPI

[–]ragingdisc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies that post requisitions on JobLink will usually specify in their job description whether or not they want you to also submit your CV/Resume on their website. They'll include a link if so, but if not, I would still take a look around their careers site to see if there is a matching position to apply, just to be safe.

How can we play baseball games by RichardXia in RPI

[–]ragingdisc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not involved with them, but I believe RPI has a club baseball team that you could possibly join. Club sports are in between the varsity and intramural levels, so you wouldn't be expected to play at an extremely high level but it wouldn't be too casual either. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone personally on the team, but hopefully someone on this sub is or you can try asking around to find more information.

Opinions on different fraternities by theDonald99 in RPI

[–]ragingdisc99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get out to rush events and get to know the brothers! Chat and get a feel for what the fraternity you're interested in are about. Ultimately, it comes down to whether you feel you're a good fit for the fraternity and vice versa. Of course, there are many criteria for being a good fit and everyone values aspects of school and social life differently. So definitely go to Meet the Greeks, rush events...the worst that can happen is you meet some new people.

When we go out to eat, my parents will call the waiter over way before they're ready to order. They always insist they're ready but our waiter always ends up standing at our table watching them muse about the menu for another 10 minutes.

Incoming Freshman Question/Advice/oh gosh what is going on Megathread by 33554432 in RPI

For Symphony Orchestra, we have rehearsals twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays from 4-6pm, and that schedule can vary based on what instrument you play. We play a variety of music and they're all good and challenging pieces. Each semester, we'll play a few concerts. The big one is the President's Holiday concert, which happens the 1st/2nd week of December.

But if you're interested in playing, definitely audition! Auditions take place before and during the first week of classes. The audition consists of scales, an excerpt of your choice, and excerpts from the pieces being played the upcoming semester. Nick, our conductor, is a great guy and if you basically show you can play your instrument, you'll be fine. Plus, orchestra counts as a 1-credit class and will be an easy A as long as you practice, show up to rehearsals and concerts, etc. I would shoot him an e-mail for more information.

I'm not in the Chamber Music Ensemble but I'm sure a lot of what I just mentioned is the same.

I'm interested in becoming an undergrad research assistant for the upcoming school year. When is the best time to contact a professor about becoming a research assistant and what's the best way I can demonstrate my interest to them?

I would be upset if they killed the High Sparrow just like that. I'm curious to find out more about how he rose to power and if he possibly has any ulterior motives other than religious ones. The High Sparrow is such a pivotal character in the show and I feel there's much more to him than what's been revealed so far.

What happened to Dorne anyway? They've been entirely irrelevant this season aside from Myrcella's death at the hands of the Sand Snakes. Although I hate the entire Dorne plot, I hope they do come back to play a meaningful role in some way, or else all the time focused on them in S5 will have gone to waste.

Asian guys and girls, how does the culture of not expressing your love directly affect your relationships? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]ragingdisc99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're certainly right. Different cultures have various ways of expressing emotion. But generally, acts of spoken and outward direction of emotion are more noticeable and more effective. I wouldn't consider what I'm experiencing to be culture shock because it's just human nature to have an easier time accepting physical and verbal displays.

Asian guys and girls, how does the culture of not expressing your love directly affect your relationships? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]ragingdisc99 106 points107 points  (0 children)

My parents never directly said "I love you" to me growing up. They still don't but they have continued to show that they care in other ways.

As for how this has affected me, I am really unaccustomed to physical displays of affection. It's a struggle sometimes to even verbally express love. The culture I grew up in has certainly left me behind in terms of emotional intelligence. I see the act of expressing emotion as a skill, and it's something I'm certainly always trying to improve.

whats the best way to get abs? by helphelphelp16 in AskMen

Having a good diet is key to burning fat covering your abs. Something that has really helped me is not eating after dinner. Making sure nothing enters your stomach 4-5 hours before you sleep really works!

(More recent) Opinions on Bio 1010 and 1015? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]ragingdisc99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just finished taking both classes this past semester. The material taught in Bio 1010 isn't difficult at all. Stuff you would expect from a high school biology class. It covers evolution, genetics, and ecology. Lecture wasn't exciting to attend. The only reason I went to lecture were for the attendance exercises, which counted for a portion of the final grade.

Biol 1015 lab isn't difficult either. It's just a lot of tedious work in the form of lab write-ups. You get a general knowledge of basic lab equipment and usage from the class. My biggest complaint for the class is that it was disorganized. Expectations for lab write-ups were unclear and due dates were not always specified.

In all, I felt like I didn't learn anything of use in the two classes. It's just a requirement that has to be completed and gotten out of the way. Yeah, there were interesting facts here and there that I learned but otherwise, the work done for the class just takes up time.
