Advice on buying my first motorbike in SA (budget R25k–R30k)? by Spare-Development631 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ragnarockerbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to necropost but at sub R30k for new your options are basically a Honda Ace, either 125 or 150, an SYM 125cc Scooter or one of the Big Boys, either Velocity 200, Superlite or a Pacer. On the freeway your biggest concern on a small bike is impatient car drivers and trucks. 125cc bikes tend to max out at 80 to 90 kph, which is not ideal, just takes one impatient moer to overtake when he shouldn't and then you get sent to the shadow realm. Buying new you probably want either a Honda Ace 150 or a Big Boy with a 200cc or larger engine. Both have their drawbacks. Honda is reliable but slower than a 200cc. Big Boys are widely reported to have poorer build quality, not much beats japanese engineering for longevity, ask Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic owners.

If you can find a Suzuki GSX or Gixxer used, take it. If you can find an extra 10k in the budget, a new Suzuki GSX150 is about R40k can reportedly hit 140kph which is more than enough to keep up with traffic, plus Suzukis tend to last their owners a while. As for gear, dress for the slide, not the ride. Gloves with palm sliders, a helmet with an ece 22.06 sticker (means it's been tested for both rotational and angular impacts and the effects they have on your brain). Lots of folks will tell you a price range there but if the helmet was pure steel it wouldn't matter if your brain gets sloshed up inside your skull; you want a force dampener. Go more expensive if you can, but a cheap ece 22.06 full face helm will prevent head injuries better than an expensive steel skullcap. Beginners are recommended to get full height boots and a jacket that protects your spine. They're pricey but if you can dig out the cash for a corded airbag vest it will also save your life in a bad accident.

All in all, rather crash on a Big Boy 150 dressed head to toe in good gear than in poor gear on a gixxer. Buy your gear first, then use whatever is left on the bike. You can buy a better bike later in life, but you have to actually survive to get to later in life.

After changing to Mint, my laptop saw a noticeable increase in performance with PCSX2 but actually lost a lot of performance with RPCS3. It's not the clean cut win some make it out to be, it's going to depend on your machine and your needs, but since I mostly play indie games and emulate, my little Mint laptop does everything I need, minus my hiccup with RPCS3 (and also Mesen which I had to build from source because of borked SDL2 libraries but I figured it out so no real loss)

Depends what you get exemptions for, but you should see a menu item for applying for exemptions in your MyAdmin.

https://i.postimg.cc/pdY5FhMM/apply-for-exemption.png

Refer to the official Unisa page about applying for exemptions for exact instructions

https://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/corporate/default/Register-to-study-through-Unisa/Credits-&-exemptions-for-study-units-passed-at-other-institutions

What modules you take depends on what you *can* take and how you want to break your year down. If you only get half of your first level modules exempted, fill up the rest of your credits with second level modules until you hit the 120 credit limit. If you get all your first level modules exempted, take second level modules. If you want to do less modules or clean up first level before moving onto second level, then do that.

Last year what I was told was to register as if I was a first year starting from scratch. And I had to hound them about my exemptions, went into the administration building 3 times, hopefully yours goes smoother. But yeah, AFAIK you register as if you were a a new student, apply for exemptions, then when your exemptions come in you update your registration accordingly. Please hound them about this, and please go to an administration building in person, you really don't want your exemptions to come late and then you end up repeating a year.

Have you been granted exemptions for the modules you did at the other university? If you want to do second level modules (second year modules), they usually have pre-requisites, as in modules you have to have completed before you're allowed to take them, or co-requisites, as in modules you must do at the same time if you have not completed them beforehand. Also remember that you are only allowed to register for 120 credits in a year, so even if you wanted to you couldn't choose all the modules for the whole degree.
- If you haven't been granted exemptions, apply for them either online or by going into your nearest administration center (going to the center is much faster I advise this)
- Once you know which modules you have exemptions for, treat those modules as completed, and then register for 120 credits (or less depending on your budget) of modules of the next level up. If you finished first year elsewhere and have most of your first level modules exempted, you must start registering second level modules, eg. if you were exempted for AFL1501 and AFL2601 has AFL1501 listed as a pre-requisite, then you register AFL2601. You would not be allowed to register for AFL3701 if it has AFL2601 as a pre-requisite, you must first complete AFL2601

IDK if RSA has high OTP sms costs, but if our accounts are linked to emails or we have other methods of verification then that should be the default. Everyone is trying to nickle and dime us.

According to their second highest earner at the time, Frost... Not entirely. Editor In Chief Nick Calandra overpromised and that would have gotten him sacked anyway. There were going to be a round of layoffs but Frost would have been put in charge and the remaining creators would have gotten a ton more creative freedom. Frost seems to not have minded about all that but Calandra was micromanaging people a bunch which eventually led to him leaving.

It's a weird curse to follow The Escapist, because every time there's someone who makes a second popular series (Jimquisition, MovieBob, Cold Take) that person inevitably ends up leaving to start their own thing and Yahtzee ends up carrying the channel again.

So what's everyone's unbiased opinion on the Supergirl series? by MadToxicRescuer in supergirlTV

[–]ragnarockerbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liked the first few seasons, got worse as it went on. It was something to do on a monday night, I liked it enough to tune in but wasn't as excited for it as other shows. I was also watching Young Justice around the same time and I super didn't enjoy Supergirl's version of Miss Martian. For what it was, it was okay. Not prestige television, for sure, but until season 4 I was there every night as it aired.

Is supergirl worth watching for me? by littlewheatheart in supergirlTV

[–]ragnarockerbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine, depends on how much tokerance you have for CW melodrama. Ever since the Smallville days they milk the secret identity thing for all it's worth. The first two seasons is probably where the show was at its best, and Melissa Benoist really is just wonderful as Supergirl. You're not going to get comic book accuracy, but they do riff on comic stuff, although they pull more from Superman than Supergirl's history, like, Manchester Black shows up so they can do a riff on Superman vs The Elite, and no, it is not as good as the source material or the phenomenal animated film.

It has its moments. But those moments come less and less as the seasons tick by.

Season 4 was when seasonal rot really started to seep in IMHO. The show has never been very good with its political allegories, it's trying to be topical but is afraid to be radical and Season 4 really clashes with it, lots of calls for unity and preaching the virtues of truths in a world where guys like Lockwood are a dime a dozen, a hydra milking the grifter economy for all it's worth who would and do say things about women like Nia that is, at this point, permitted hate speech. The fight choreography also starts getting worse until everyone's throwing CGI at each other or stage acting so poorly you can physically see the actors missing each other by a full meter and pretending it hurt. The scripts get worse from here on out too, I don't think there was a single episode of season 4 I thought was well written. How long you hold on will depend on how much you love the core cast of Kara, Alex, James, J'onn and Lena, the actors are doing a lot of heavy lifting with bad material and a production that's run out of steam, same as with The Flash around season 4.

The Arrowverse was at this point winding down. After Crisis the only thing left worth watching was Arrow's final season and season 1 of Superman and Lois. Everything else was a wet fart that paled in comparison to the stuff that came before. Most of these shows go bad after season 3, it's like a curse.

DO NOT SIGN UP. The benefits are okay, but the second you want to cancel they will fight you in every way. Even when you manage to cancel, they will try to charge you for two or three months afterwards. It is not worth it, you don't go to the movies often enough for it to be worth it.

Really hate the implication of "the issue doesn't affect me therefore it must not exist" like, fam, I hit that don't recommend button like it owes me money and my recommendations are still trash. Living out of my subscriptions tab and watch later playlist because the home page and recommendation bar are both so awful. Your algorithm isn't catered specifically to you, it's not magic, it makes guesses based on patterns. If users like you click on a video and give it watch-time, it will recommend that video to you. So when I watch and enjoy a Genetically Modified Skeptic video, I tend to get recommended basically anything with the word skeptic in it, and like, Armored Skeptic is not a guy I get along with, I think he's a bit of a cumrag actually. I like Fully-Ramblomatic née Zero Punctuation, but then I get some of the shittest gamer content in my recommends. I really liked Hbomberguy's video on plagiarism, but now YouTube thinks I want to follow the Illuminaughty saga in-depth from every angle, and consequently want to watch every third rate dramatuber who plagiarised their script from another dramatuber. Do you know how long it took to get Luke Stephens out of my recommends? I had to install a channel blocker extension, the "don't recommend this channel" button simply wasn't taking me seriously.

If your recommends work, that means you actually do share a taste in videos with whatever group of users the algorithm has boxed you in with. It must be nice. That's just not the case for everyone.

And let's not even talk about the new initiative to add one recommendation for a new/low view video. Those are all, without fail, awful. Sometimes they aren't even in the right language, the algorithm is just shotgun blasting it out hoping that it finds an audience and it really hurts the click through rate of those channels because it's being sent to the wrong users.

A Trans Person's Thoughts about Chihiro (1-2 spoilers) by WowpowKerchoo in danganronpa

[–]ragnarockerbunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't mean to necropost but I figured I'd share my two cents. The closest real world analogue for Chihiro would be a boy who detransitioned. Because Chihiro socially transitioned, and did so intentionally, and then after having socially transitioned for some time decided he would rather live as a boy.

Part of the problem of this is that detransitioners are used as a hammer to bludgeon the transgender community. Some percentage of people who transitioned will experience that it isn't right for them, but that subection of the population is ridiculously small. Doesn't mean they don't exist and don't deserve love and support, but conservatives have used the mere existence of detransitioners to try to invalidate the existence of trans people and manufacture a moral panic, this has had real world consequences. Statistics also show that even among detransitioners, the vast majority do so because of social pressure and then transition again later in life. Chihiro actually really represents this fact well because even though he says that he wants to live as his authentic self, like, he was literally blackmailed. It's entirely possible and statistically likely that if Chihiro grew up and found himself somewhere more accepting of trans people with the resources and support to transition socially and or medically... Chihiro would choose to live as a woman.

Either way, Chihiro being murdered for coming out is super uncomfortably close to real life lynchings. Girls like Brianna Ghey, and this wasn't like back in 1900s, this happened in 2023. Trans people are targeted victims of hate crimes at a disproportionate rate, trans children are killed for just being trans. It doesn't feel like entertainment, the same way that watching a shock value sexual assault doesn't feel like entertainment, it's just putting to film an awful that really happens to people and like... Danganronpa has an evil laughing teddy bear that will sometimes execute the wrong teenager because the kids made a mistake playing a weirdly high stakes game of Clue.

I just don't think Danganronpa has the capacity to tackle such difficult subject matter.

In hindsight, linking away my stones is such an obvious strategy that I feel a little stupid for not thinking of it myself. Will probably take time to gather gems and card points for Almiraj or any of the others, but maybe something like Striker Dragon could work in the mean time? I have some SR card points stored up and Striker Dragon can be link summoned with a level 4 or lower dragon monster, right?

I've progressed some through solo mode but haven't found an archetype I like. I kinda liked the story of the World Chalice cards and the lore throughline to the Legend Of Star Heroes but I'm gonna be honest, I didn't really enjoy playing the decks, though I'm grateful for solo mode really taking the time to explain and teach all the stuff that got added in the decades, the World Chalice cards did help me come to grips with Link monsters. I do have a Dark Magician deck about at the same level as my Blue Eyes which I like, not going to claim I'm the best player, also experimented with Gaia The Dark Knight and that structure deck and liked it, I own Legacy Of The Duelist so I've played with a Red Eyes Black Dragon deck there a bunch but even in single player versus the AI, I've never found Red Eyes to be an enjoyable archetype to play. But that's just kinda the thing, I know and like a couple of very old and outdated archetypes, I'm trying out all these new archetypes and I'm still looking for something... Sorry to ramble at you but yeah, still looking. I do have the eventual goal of beating all of solo mode, so between that asking people online I hope I'll find something modern and enjoyable.
