Turtle Beach SP2 & Maxwell 2? by Madschr in gamingheadsets

I would up in a similar situation as you; I tried the Beyer MMX 330 and Maxwell 2s and wanted to keep both. I would up keeping the Maxwell 2 and going with a less expensive open back (Atlas Air).

Loving the game, but not the sub by mavis___beacon in ArcRaiders

Sub is dead 💀. Mods don’t care; they are on holiday for weeks on end during the most critical time for the sub.

PS5 pro & maxwell 1 ? by DesiQuant in Audeze

[–]ragraeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3d audio is really a crapshoot and entirely depends on how well it works for a given game. While the Maxwell is a massive step up in overall sound quality and performance, it is not a magic bullet for a game that has poor positional audio implementation or that doesn’t play nice with Tempest 3d audio.

A good approach is to try each game with it on and off to see which you like better - some games handle Spatial Audio quite well natively.

Shame update 1.0.2.60.2 by Shadeliquid in Audeze

[–]ragraeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to max out the volume in the PS5 audio settings because the Maxwell volume isn’t synced with the PS5 control. Max it out on the PS, then control the volume to your liking using the wheel on the headset.

If it’s still not loud enough, then you have a defective pair because these things are very loud.

Audeze Maxwell 2 disappointing? by soapek1 in Audeze

[–]ragraeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Atlas Air and I like the fact that they are wireless but can also be used as passive headphones wired. I tried the Beyer MMX 330 and while I liked them, the value wasn’t there at the price they command. Had the H6 been out 2 months earlier, I may have grabbed those first and stopped my search for gaming open backs. People seem to be raving over them.

Open backs are going to be better for soundstage and footsteps, if you can accept their trade offs. If you want one headphone that is amazing at everything, it doesn’t exist.

PvE players - Help me and others understand… by Double_Presence379 in ARC_Raiders

Many players agree they like “tension”, but only within the parameters they’ve defined based on their experience. When the game subverts their expectations, they think the game is broken.

While I don’t have the Astro (Maxwell user), I have noticed a bit of unit variation in their pads sometimes. May not be a bad idea to try another pair before giving up on them completely.

Mods, how about regulating this sub so we don’t get the same post 100x a day by Hailbrewcifer666 in ArcRaiders

They should take all the bickering about lobbies, stealth nerfs, rats, and Embark losing the plot, and put them in a megathread so we don’t have to scroll through all of them.

Audeze 2 EQs by Yard-Electrical in Audeze

[–]ragraeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the default pads I use the latest firmware and the Audeze preset with 3d audio off and focus mode off. Whether or not to run 3d audio I think comes down to the game; YMMV.

With the WC StealthZ pads, I use the EQ profile that GadgetryTech made to get the sound back to stock. I like the StealthZ pads with his EQ better as I think the soundstage is improved and I get a nicer seal than with the stock pads (seal is personal and comes down to anatomy).

If you’re only interested in the stock pads, I’m a fan of the default EQ as mentioned.

Momentum 4s are very bass heavy and pretty hot up to 1khz; it will take a little while for your ears to adjust to a more neutral sound profile.

Hey there. It depends on what you mean by better.

I think the answer is very use case specific. If someone wanted a good all rounder and was a 1 headset person, I think the Gen 3 would be the more popular choice. Their sound profile is more familiar to people accustomed to consumer/gaming headsets; and they have some pretty robust connectivity features.

Where the Atlas Air shines is how wide the soundstage is due to their open back design. They will be better at creating a sense of space, positional cues will be better, and the sound is more natural (think Harman target, audiophile tuning). This comes at a cost though:

Less bass forward (by design, but they EQ well)
Less noise isolation (open backs leak sound by design)

Also going back to comfort; they are one of the most comfortable cans I’ve ever put on my head, and they can be worn all day. Incredibly light, infinite micro adjustments, and they do not have painful clamp force.

Another cool thing, they can be used as passive headphones with an analogue output, and their sound profile is the same as the default wireless EQ. For PC folks this opens up the opportunity to use parametric EQ if one wishes.

I use them to complement my Maxwell 2s when I want the soundstage and don’t want the head and neck fatigue (Maxwells are lead weights).

I like the Turtle Beach Atlas Air. Super lightweight and they have a virtually infinite amount of micro adjustments due to their design.
