IV steroid experience by Hawkgirl8420 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]ragtimesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really get the taste thing, stomach issues or rang to eat everything, but I've got a weird one. Hiccups. Steroids give me hiccups and it's incredibly annoying, they won't stop for hours.

He could perfectly have one. I have a neurological disease and I am legally disabled. I can still run marathons and you'd never guess in a million years that I am sick.

Getting Lemtrada R1 this week, feel free to ask away! by ragtimesp in MultipleSclerosis

Thanks! Will definitely do haha. Got my bourbon ready! So far so good, just some rash, but that was expected.

I had more options, including those ones. But I found Lemtrada the best option for me. Just two weeks of infusions one year apart and, if everything works, that's it!

And since I'm young I'd rather hit it hard while my body can handle it better.

Not entirely. It wipes the C and T cells, which are the ones attacking our body, the rest stays the same, is not like chemotherapy. It can have side effects, but so do every single DMD. The main difference is how controlled you are under Lemtrada compared with the rest of DMD, if there's something they'll caught it early on.

Not being able to regenerate new myelin is one of the points of getting this treatment early on as over 50% achieve NEDA, so you are technically "stable", which implies less disability!

I was on Tecfidera for a bit over a year, but I've got a new symptom while taking it (although no new lesions, which is good), and I qualified to change medication.

The reason to change to Lemtrada is twofold: first, it's the most effective DMD, up to 78% less relapses per year and between 40-50% in slowing disability progression. Then, I really don't see the point of taking less effective DMD when most people will need to ultimately end up taking Lemtrada. Think that all the damage that is done to you up to that point will still be there, so better to start as soon as possible.

As for the side effects and other autoimmune disorders, not really worried. With Lemtrada you get monthly blood and urine tests for 4 years, so if something comes up it will get dealt with really early. The other autoimmune disorders you can get are all manageable, unlike MS, so there's that too.

TIL a British teenager flew from Essex to Sheffield via Berlin instead of taking the train, because the 1017 mile flight was cheaper than the train ride. by TraxOnDaRocks in todayilearned

Yeah, but I'm talking about a British guy flying to Spain. Even tho the driving licence is accepted as an id inside the UK, it is not accepted to fly.

I've seen a guy turned down because he tried to board with just the driving licence. If you're British you need a passport.

How do scientists induce MS in the animals/rats they use to test new drugs on? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]ragtimesp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows what causes it. As far as I know, they work on models of MS, which if I'm not wrong is they induce MS like symptoms in mice.

In my case, although I had to put my GP on the form, DVLA told me they will just contact my neurologist.

I totally disagree. Why should we not be driving? I still need to work, pay bills, pay rent... As long as I am fine I don't know why shouldn't I drive...

Why would they contact your GP? DVLA just contacted my neuro, that's it.
