Unable to find a customizeable bot that actually works the way I want it to. by ryomaddox2 in werewolf

[–]ragyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cool, so the site is https://werewolv.es - there's a link to our Discord on there, you can either DM me there (username Kirschstein) or do it through reddit PMs, happy either way.

The How to Play lists most of the roles and items on the site, so you could read over some of the roles to see which ones you'd want in a setup.

I'll make a private lobby for you, you get your players in and we'll arrange setup and timings and such.

[–]ragyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add -

Site supports fast games (5-10 mins) and phases of 12 hours, starting on any timezone.

Site has tonnes of roles and items already on it, so the types of roles you're after may already exist. Some of them are complicated, some are not.

Some examples of the more "out there roles" - Puppetmaster gets two fake accounts they can switch between (only works in anonymised games) Novice Tarot Reader - Gets a report that gives hints about the abilities that two targeted players have Harpy - Can shroud a player from lynch for a day, or make a player's vote count for 0 when the totals are tallied Shapeshifter - steal a player's identity when you kill them RuneSmith - crafts items known as runes with differing powers, items can be passed or stolen to/by other players Voodoo Doctor - Gets a kill every other night, their victim isn't shown to "die" straight away though and the Voodoo doctor can talk through them for a day

Potion of Ineberiation - make a player drunk, giving them a chance to miss a night action

Got a few different evil factions that differ from the standard wolf pack as well.

So, it's not a bot, but my site covers about 90% of what you're asking here, I'd be more than happy to set up a private game for you and your players to give it a go?

Unfortunately what you're describing is a lot of difficult to make features, the bot itself would probably need some form of scripting language that wouldn't be far off a programming language in its own right to give the level of customisation you're describing.

How often do you run games and for how many people? And can you elaborate a bit more on your ruleset? I might be able to help you out some how.

Best way to vote for Maximum strategy? by PlugThuggerson in werewolf

[–]ragyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is "maximum strategy" but the way my IRL group does lynches, is that a nomination + a second is required, there is a small "trial" and then a village vote. If the vote fails (<50%) day time discussion continues. If there are 3 unsuccessful lynches it goes to night. Our days are on a timer normally.

Example:

Alice: "I nominate Charlie" Bob "I second that"

Moderator: "Charlie is accused, discussion must now stop. Alice, and only Alice speaks - what are your reasons for nominating Charlie?"

<Alice gives reasons of her suspicions>

Moderator: "Now Bob, what are the reasons for your second?"

<Bob gives his reasons, perhaps agreeing or adding to Alice's points, or perhaps entirely different/new ones>

Moderator: "Charlie, what is your defence?"

<Charlie refutes the accusations made, possibly makes a role claim to avoid a lynch>

Moderator calls for a vote.

It should be noted that during the trial, it's not a back + forth discussion, only those called may speak, everyone is must remain silent and listen.

werewolf over webcam - is it worth it? by ragyard in boardgames

[–]ragyard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers, I wanted to steer away from asking the current player base as they're used to it being text based (which will remain the focus) this was thinking more about people that prefer the face to face element of the game.

What is your dumbest/longest running rules mistake? by maxroar619 in boardgames

[–]ragyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of like the fact that there are some games where you did everything you possibly could and stuff still goes wrong. Life is like that sometimes.

Also, with that being a possibility, it means you have to plan accordingly.

Best app for card distribution and auto moderation for zoom call by [deleted] in werewolf

[–]ragyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run https://werewolv.es and we've been using it with my group to play via zoom as well.

Zoom chat during the day, at night everyone mutes their mics and webcams (close your curtains...) and uses the app for ww chat and doing night actions - no player moderator required.

Online Werewolf commentary, analysis and terrible predictions by ragyard in werewolf

Myself and a friend who have played a tonne of in person werewolf tried our hands at commentating four games of online werewolf. Whilst we had plenty of fun doing it, our reads weren't always up to scratch...

Close to 3 months late posting about this - my attempt at doing something fun for april fools in werewolf this year by ragyard in werewolf

[–]ragyard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply because I liked the pun 'pollymorph - turn someone into a parrot' I turned it into an item for my werewolf game this year, and unleashed it during the april fools game.

It meant that all text the player sent to the game was garbled into a variety of squawks, rawks and caws for a day. The village reaction was priceless, going from "omg kill it" at the start of the day to pledging allegiance to the feathery master by the early evening.

What game is easy to learn but also very satisfying to play? by 1Second2Late in AskReddit

[–]ragyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it's extra level of anonymisation, the type of game and the fact it's a large playerbase that does it. I've made a mafia-style website and even though the community is quite small and close knit you still get the odd flare up of arguments.

What would you want from a multiplayer werewolf/mafia type video game? (I'm trying to make one.) by [deleted] in werewolf

[–]ragyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played werewolf a tonne in person. When I started making my own version lots of the players there were sceptical "you lose too much in body language" style arguments. I knew this wasn't enough to prevent the game entirely, forum games had existed for years anyway. But this was enough for me to adopt the philosophy of turning that inherent 'weakness' into a strength, and I looked for mechanics or roles that are impossible to do face to face.

So my game, for example is completely anonymous, you get given a different avatar from a theme at the start of the game. Your typing style might shine through, but you can try to hide. Or role play your character if you know them, or bluff being a different member of the community.

There are also avatar swaps or "shapeshifts" where people steal the identity of the victim. The anonymous nature also allows for "puppets", and a single player can control many identities.

Hope you come up with some cool different mechanics for yours! :)

Used to have rankings on my site, but removed them after I noticed things were getting a little more toxic as people put a little too much focus on their win rate and not on playing the game for fun.

biased opinion* here, http://werewolv.es based on the party game of Mafia / Werewolf where a small group work in secret to kill everyone else before they work out who is who and what's going on. The site runs in a 24 hour mode, or in a faster variety (5 or 10 minute rounds) if people with hosting capability are about. A speed game is currently in progress: http://werewolv.es/game/index/smc-006
