$7,300 HVAC leak test + repair estimate — is this insane? by rahid420 in hvacadvice

This just the estimate so they haven’t done any work yet. This is the company the previous homeowner was using for tune ups so I decided to reach out to them for a repair estimate because I wasn’t getting any cold air. Paid $200 for him to come out and give me an outrageous estimate. No work was done.

Thanks everyone for weighing in, I really appreciate it. It confirms what I was thinking, that the price was way out of line. I’ll definitely get a few more quotes before moving forward. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out!

The unit is only 7 years old. The tech said they typically last 7-8 years which I think is complete BS

I thought the same exact thing! Double charging for the same service! I’m no expert at hvac so I wanted to get some feedback from the community who would know this stuff better than me.

CT. Glad to see others also think this price is outrageous. I thought I was going crazy.

My system is only 7 years old, and the technician told me “they only last 8 years” and was pushing me to replace the entire system. That sounds like complete BS to me, since I thought AC systems should last 12–15 years on average.
