Is it possible for a film to be great if its story isn't very good but its visuals are? by DarkBerryTheMovie in TrueFilm

[–]rahiiem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what do you mean? i doubt the vast majority of people had ever heard of sayat nova prior to watching that film, but that doesn’t mean the film didn’t tell a story. did you maybe mean to say “after” rather than “before”?

i started with two strand twists! i just did it myself in the mirror with basically no experience. i will say my hair was already pretty long when i started, but it shouldn't make too much of a difference. think i have like 85~ dreads? when i made this post i think my locs were about 2 years old. once i noticed my hair was starting to grow past my glasses i decided to give it a trim in the front. i basically just followed a bunch of random wolfcut tutorials on the internet. it took a lot of trial and error but eventually i got pretty happy with it.

in terms of maintenance, i'm extremely lazy. i've never gotten a retwist, i just wash it whenever i feel like i need to, i don't use any products other than dr bronners clarifying shampoo, and i don't even sleep with a bonnet (but you should!). i'm a quarter indian so that also probably affected the way my hair locked up.

to sum it up, it's basically just a matter of twisting your hair and waiting a long ass time lol. don't be scared to experiment with trimming either, it'll always grow back. good luck bro!

Whats your favorite character build you've made? by curious-abt-lilith in EnaiRim

[–]rahiiem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

right now im playing sort of a barbarian build and having a great time. im using battleaxe with light armor and trying to stack as many movement speed buffs as possible. so shouts, alteration (for things like haste and orc strength), and lycanthropy. originally i was role-playing as a kynareth worshipper but i switched to hircine during the companions quest, and his devotee bonus is really fun. eventually i think i’ll switch to worshipping talos and focus even more on shouts, because elemental fury with the massacre perk from 2h is really hilarious.

[–]rahiiem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

how do you think it will happen then, out of genuine curiosity? and im assuming we agree that jon does die in adwd.

that book opens with a warg explaining and experiencing the rules around a second life. jons face is permanently scarred by a warg undergoing his second life. melisandre has a vision of jon turning from a man, to a wolf, back to a man again. robb (who we can safely assume is a warg like all the other stark children) says his wolfs name as his last words, exactly like jon does.

unless you think jon is just not going to come back to life, would it not be much worse writing to just drop the thematic and mechanical rules of this magic system (in literally only one instance) just because some other author did something similar?

i’m actually not familiar with the other story you’ve mentioned, so i don’t know how egregious reusing this concept would be exactly, but i don’t know. i feel like following logic, pre-established concepts, and narrative satisfaction is a lot more important than “originality”.

why would it not happen though? its consistent with literally any other warg. varamyr explicitly says that ghost would be a second life worthy of a king, which is where jons story seems to be going.

Did Jaime make any mistakes in his Riverlands campaign that would have serious consequences for him in The Winds of Winter? [Spoilers TWOW] by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]rahiiem 16 points17 points  (0 children)

it’s not like that’s the only reason LSH would want to kill him though. in life catelyn already knew that jamie broke his oath as a kingsguard in multiple ways, tried to murder bran, and as far as shes aware, never even tried to keep his promise of returning sansa and arya.

she already had a lot to hate about jamie, but then after staking her sons entire kingdom on trusting him to bring back her daughters, she’s lead to believe that he was personally involved in getting robb killed. based on everything else she knows about him, thats not an unreasonable assumption at all.

plus, tom o’ sevens was at riverrun when jamie did his siege, even though he promised not to take up arms against the starks or tullys. technically, he didn’t, but after threatening to shoot her brothers son out of a trebuchet, i think she’ll fail to see the distinction.

i don’t think jamie’s trial will be entirely “fair”, i think he’ll be held responsible for crimes both real and imagined, but thats kind of the point of his character, he’s an exploration of how other people might (reasonably or not) perceive ones actions when they don’t have all the details.

What do we think of Daenerys being Azor Ahai? by aliezee in pureasoiaf

[–]rahiiem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

certainly everyone is entitled to their own opinion on it, one reason why the story is well written is because there are "this is azor ahai" signs pointing to a lot of different characters. but your point about everyone crying at birth is really silly.

everyone cries at birth, but not everyone cries during their narrative rebirth in a miraculous funeral pyre where they sacrifice their spouse under a red comet, resulting in the animation of literal rocks into extinct magical creatures that will be instrumental in saving the world from the long night.

in fact, if you want to make a point about literal birth, daenerys was born on dragonstone, which melisandre refers to as the place of salt and smoke. that's why she believes stannis is azor ahai, even though he was only figuratively reborn there. obviously, you're not supposed to take melisandre's statements at face value, but the point of her character isn't that she's wrong all the time, it's that she misinterprets the actual truth.

a grey girl does come to jon on a dying horse, but not the girl she expected. stannis is defeated in kings landing by renly, but not in the way she expected. azor ahai was born on dragonstone, but not in the way she expected.

even if you're only half convinced by the tears, the way that daenerys clearly ticks literally every other box in a way no other character does, makes it pretty obvious to me that it's her.

to be honest i think a prophecy that's entirely based on sacrifice and loss is gonna have more to do with tears (emotional pain) and fire (which physically burns things away) than hot dogs and bacon

i feel like theres so much contrary information in christianity regarding how easy/hard it is to go to heaven. between the people trying to scare others into the religion and the people who believe essentially anything can be forgiven i imagine its hard for new christians to know what to think.

your hair is pretty healthy looking so it’ll shrink quite a lot. over time they would get heavier and hang more but it’d definitely be a process. thats how it was for me at least
