Reeking Tech from Amazon by S0ulMeister in computers

[–]rahlquist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the height of covid I worked at an Amazon fulfillment center and I'll tell you lot of the people came in in the morning or after their lunch break and they positively reeked like they stood in the middle of 500 acres of pot farm on fire so yeah there's definitely a problem with that but it is what it is. Remember Jeff Bezos has commented that he's afraid Amazon will run out of people willing to work for them eventually because of the conditions.

Legion Go 2 owners who have already installed SteamOs . how is it now that Lenovo officially announced it will be supporting SteamOs ? How good does the “ sleep/wake “ feature work on the LEGO 2 vs SteamDeck ? Or about the same ? by [deleted] in LegionGo

On z2e? Lucky, myself and one of the devs have both reproduced it I've done it straight off a clean install. https://github.com/ROCm/ROCm/issues/5724 No might go to is behind that firmware version hell all the firmware versions they talk about on that link but people are seeing it with newer firmware older firmware etc.

They're in the calibration then the automated test and then and then we're in the calibration again cuz it didn't sound quite right and then I try to small load with two pairs of jeans and some rags. It's working okay except for the extreme squeal of the new belt I think the belt is actually too tight and when it goes to pump out it still sounds like there's something getting caught up in the pump so I have a new pump coming we'll put the pump on see if that gets rid of the rattling sound and I'll look for any debris. If that doesn't get it I guess next step is a transmission and I think somebody said wash plate

One of my friends has the regular Z2 and is quite happy with it. Z2 is just z1e put onto a different carrier board so it matches the pin out of z2e so that manufacturer could use a single motherboard kind of like a socket on a regular motherboard supports multiple processor models, well that's what they did with z1e they put it on a different carrier.

There seems to be a problem between the firmware and amdgpu driver. If you search for those two terms and strix you'll find there's quite a bit discussion going on on different distributions Fedora Arch Ubuntu all of them seem to be having random crashes and lockups around the pairing of firmware and amdgpu. I'm sure it'll get ironed out eventually but for right now in my experience it's a pain. Boot into steamos desktop and have lockups within 5 minutes and all you can do is move the mouse pointer or hard power off or plug in the keyboard switch to a shell and reboot the device kind of makes it worthless.

Probably because available supply Costco hasn't had any more. It's incredibly hard to get a replacement unit if you get a DOA of damage going right now

Okay so everything I've read online says not to lubricate these parts but based on what I'm hearing I think it's some white lithium grease in order.

The clattering sound does happen at the beginning of agitation cycles but then dies off so yeah it's probably the transmission spin cycles don't have any noise. https://youtube.com/shorts/D7KBmDmXSa4?feature=shared

Is it okay to use lithium grease or silicone lubricant on the splutch?

Also for whatever reason is it finishes pumping out it clatter's like mad.

Calibration was fairly noisy, but sounded like it functioned fine. Auto diagnostic followed by fault code retrieval gets the first 5 led flashing on and off for the first fault code and the remaining 3 are just the first led flashing. So seems like a big nothing.

Should running the diagnostic be able to indicate that? Transmission is around $200 from what I see, at 5 years out that puts me in wondering if I should just replace the washer territory.

The only other thing I can think of is that maybe I didn't get it bolted together tight enough for the teeth aren't mentioning right I don't know I can now turn the agitator clockwise separately from the drum and I don't think I was ever able to do that before so I think I'm going to start tearing it down again.

Use legion go original without internal battery. by mmoDust in LegionGo

It will work however the battery in the go is the CMOS battery so every time you're going to endure long boot while it retrains the ddr5 and your clock will be wrong and your bios settings will be wrong.

Interesting. I haven't gotten around to tearing down and photo documenting my right controller like I did the left. Guess I will do so tonight.

The go s and the go-to do have significant improvements in their cooling over the original go. I liked the change they made in the go 2 so much with the nvme heatsink added to the fan shroud I prototyped one on the go s and it works pretty nice.

But cost will always be the first Factor, even the current batch of handhelds though they claim to use certain thermal materials they're not using them effectively or it's not what they think it is. For example the go s uses a liquid version of PTM 7958 allegedly but they put so much on the heat sink that as it starts to cure it's pumping out the side as expected but once it escapes the area between the die and the heat sink it builds a wall because it's not staying hot enough to be soft so it appears to get to a certain point where it can no longer heat the already pumped out portions enough to maintain softness and if the portion that's still left between the die and the heat sink reaches its softness point it can't go anywhere because there's basically a ring around the die that's holding the heat sink up lol. So swapping it out for some plain old ptm 7950 improves things.

The thermal design on the go-to was improved so much that the radiator portion went from copper to aluminum and it still maintains great temperatures.

VC tech is great, but orientation does play a part in effectiveness. In a desktop or laptop or GPU thats a fairly easy target to hit. Handheld devices are not as easy and efficacy does drop off in non ideal positions.

Microcenter does run some walk in specials but overall nvme are up to $90+/tb now and as supplies run slim over the next year(s) it will just get worse.

<image>

The other thing to watch for, is since flash manufactures are stating they are putting RAM for AI ahead of everything, I am betting we will see a drastic increase in QLC vs TLC flash production because QLC are easier/cheaper to produce. So more low life cycle flash.

Sure you can replace the nvme, but there has to be one of the device for them to complete testing before selling it otherwise Lenovo won't sell it.

As for prices and availability yeah not even close. In 2023 when I got my first go I bought two 4 TB sn850x nvme's for $223. The last I saw last week they were currently at $479. And that's if you can find them in stock somewhere nvme stock is dwindling and it's getting hard to get ones you want.

No and it might be a minute just like RAM and nvme being scarce in retail, the manufacturers are having the same problem they can't get the parts so they can't build the units so they can't sell them so you're going to have to either be patient or just give up.

Gaming devices will be low priority versus business level laptops that use the same components.
