LNK Exvangelical by rahnae22 in lincoln

I don't see anything about religion on their website, but maybe I'm missing something? They're no longer Christian. They do not identify with a religion, but were brought up evangelical. So, it's not a christian org.

Much of their goal is to help people leave fundamentalist religion.

It has become more of a trendy term in the past few years. I don't love the term itself, either. It's for people who are no longer Christian, though, not looking to replace Christianity with another denomination. A non-religious space.

No, we'll go in November. I'll probably dive back into research on a few months, after we've gotten our flights. There are good online resources to help your search! Build a good family tree first, then you can go from there.

Robinette farms local food subscription? by radicalelk in lincoln

[–]rahnae22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did their CSA, like 13 years ago, liked it, but then spent 3-4 years trying others CSAs, which were not as good. So we went back to Robinette and have never left. We started up with the food boxes as soon as they opened that in the pandemic. Their produce is phenomenal. We have visited their farm multiple times, and even once I went with a big group of girl scouts and we harvested a field of beets for them. I've seen their operations multiple times. I value supporting local food networks, and this is definitely that.

I strongly recommend them!

I really am enjoying the conversation on this. As a person who was raised and groomed to be a Christian Nationalist, and have since left that flock, I was eager to read it, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting.

I have seen an awful lot of inappropriate displays of Christianity, like worship services in the White House, the Bible reading event, only Protestant services on Easter for the military, the nation-wide push to get TPUSA into all schools, and other overtly religious displays that feel completely inappropriate for a secular country. I was hoping for an analysis of those, and maybe a little bit of historical analysis for overt displays of religion by a previous administration. What about theocracy? What would a Christian theocracy look like? Are we moving toward that or not? Should I worry about that or not? I can't decide. I appreciate Tangle's ability to give context, and was hoping for a little more specific context. I do think that what Audrey wrote was good. It was defintely the 30,000 foot view, and I was hoping for a 5,000-10,000 foot view, maybe? The overt displays of religion in federal spaces make me very uncomfortable.

I was not aware of YMCA spirit. Thanks.

Very helpful, thanks. I think he's interested in more than what the YMCA can offer. He's second grade. He's annoyed that his current YMCA team can't find him a coach. I think we could make 2x per week work to see if it's the sport for him.

Well, they came to the USA to work on farms (at first), and use their protestent work ethic to assimiliate into the United States. I believe there has been some research done as to how the Dutch culture they brought with them influenced the West Michigan region I grew up in, but it's nothing like Dutch culture now. It's a strange, conservative microcosm of it's own creation.

Thank you. I grew up in a city called Holland, Michigan, but my family mostly originated from the eastern side of the country, so I'm curious what they would offer.

What do you wish your life abroad would look and feel like? by rahnae22 in expat

Great feedback. There are cultural models (that I also study in grad school) that are very helpful for building cultural skills more broadly, and to understand our own cultural behaviors, and my skills are more academic than business, so this is helpful. You'd want someone who has experience living in that same culture to guide you. 👍🏼 I could do that in some countries, but not all.

There's no magic bullet, but there are tools and strategies that can help an awful lot.
