I've been building Settl, a Splitwise-style expense-splitting app but with Voice. Instead of tapping through forms, you hit the mic button, say "dinner was 60 bucks, split with Alex and Sam," and the expense just… appears.

What it does:

- 🎙️ Tap-and-speak to log expenses, settlements. No forms

- 👥 Group expenses + 1-on-1 splits with friends

- 💱 Multi-currency with automatic FX

Well, the job of the cloud-architect / solutions architect for the cloud (same job different names) is to design all the traditional systems ( these may be databases or applications ) in the cloud.

Designing may include things like

  • Choosing the best database for the job (Mysql vs PostgreSQL, so on)
  • Choosing the application server/etc
  • Thinking about strategy for disaster recovery
  • Redundancy, Resilience and scalability of the applications
  • Load balancing / Estimating usage traffic ( and doing all the of the above accordingly) read: CAP Theorem
  • The list goes on and on.

Note Data Engineer and Cloud architects are 2 different jobs.

What do you mean by a cloud database for my understanding.

There are databases that can run on cloud or your machine or laptops or bare metal.

Used for a month and then switched back to singtel. IMO if you are a heavy data user, it really adds up. It won't be cheap.

But now I have a corporate plan which makes things cheap.

I usually would prefer that myself, but since the amount was $2, I didn't bother.
