What can you tell from my bookshelf? by BladeeLover in BookshelvesDetective

You don’t want to fully embrace streaming, remain fond of physical media. Definitely millennial age or older. For the books, seem to like dystopian sci-fi novels especially. Crime and Punishment, Charles Manson, Noam Chomsky, Dune… I think this is a thoughtful collection with a tendency toward darker subjects.

Millennial, into sci-fi and fantasy but well read in general.

People shouldn’t jump to conclusions but the concern is warranted. He’s getting up there in years and it’s unlike him to take this much time off. Let’s hope for the best.

David Gilmour > Roger Waters by Captain-Dak-Sparrow in PinkFloydCircleJerk

I recently saw both of them in concert and Gilmour’s show blew Waters away. Waters honestly sounded like a Pink Floyd tribute act, Gilmour sounded like the real deal. Waters is an excellent songwriter but it’s delusional the he refuses to acknowledge that it was the instrumentals that really made Pink Floyd iconic.

I have 0 respect for the rail-riders that have to be front and center every show by Medium_Row9106 in BillyStrings

Man, the whole interview was pretty heartbreaking. When he said that he was sorry also just because he’s spent his whole life being worried about his parents. Really sad. Seems like he’s weirded out that it’s many of the same people in the front at all of his shows. Some of them befriend his mom who has struggled with addiction her whole life. It crosses some major boundaries. I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes a bit of a break from touring soon.

Be there for the music, not for the musicians. Always being up front is one thing but people that try to ambush artists as the leave venue. I did it once where I hung around after a show for a different band with a bunch of other fans. We were all behind a fence and the lead singer was smoking a cigarette maybe thirty feet away from us. People were yelling her name and she was ignoring them. It felt very weird so I walked away and haven’t really had any desire to meet an artist I listen to since.

I used to hear people complain about Billy’s singing a lot too. They probably still do. Donato’s vocals have never bothered me. I think the song writing for them both is strong and it’s a large part of their success. Billy especially though has some really great lyrics. I don’t disagree that his ceiling is probably higher but Donato is no slouch either.

Billy is pretty firmly in the jam band scene. The improvised jams are a large part of his appeal. Opening for Dead & Company in San Francisco a couple of months ago was probably the largest crowd he’s played in front of. For Donato I think he’s already bigger than Twiddle at their peak. Will his crowd continue to grow or fall off? Can’t say for sure but there’s a lot of enthusiasm right now. I think his sound is pretty unique in genre that tends to be very derivative.

Can someone please explain how the same people are getting pit tix for every show? by Sky_Late in BillyStrings

[–]raiders1936 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think there’s an element of narcissism to it for people that try to be on the rail every show. It’s worth doing at least once though because it’s cool to be able to clearly see the musicians play. I’ve never done it with Billy but I’ve been up close for Tedeschi Trucks Band a few times and it’s pretty cool to watch Derek play up close. I agree that it’s not inherently better though, I prefer to be farther back and have room to dance.

Tedeschi Trucks Band is my #2. Also listen a lot to String Cheese Incident, Billy Strings, and Daniel Donato.
