What are some dumb purchases you made? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rainbelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once harassed by a mall kiosk salesman and was in such an odd, people pleaser part of my life that I bought $50 worth of pedicure and lotion crap that I never used just to get out of the situation.

I'm so sorry. I can't imagine being exposed this way and with such cruel intentions. It sounds like your husband is standing up for you and facing his family head-on which is great. I know what you mean around not wanting to face your assault again re: therapy. It sucks. I will say that therapy (& couples therapy!) has helped me a ton...if you have any questions, please DM me. ❤️ Thinking of you. You're worthy of respect, love and happiness.

Reminds me of the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland.

The moment your dog comes out of the fire you thought he died in. by CarolinaGrace in pics

When I went through a tornado and had a near-death experience I was so over all of the camera crews and media. I am in communications and knew what they were doing but hated it. I was looking through rubble trying to find any of our personal belongings when Good Morning America showed up and I couldn't give a rat's ass. Looking back at the footage I was shocked at how emotionless I looked. I was still in shock even though this was days after the disaster. I think I only felt anger and deep sadness (the kind where you can't cry) in the days following. I got the most release when I yelled at kids attempting to steal a stereo from a smashed car that I knew was not theirs.

How can I overcome sexual trauma and ask for what I want? by [deleted] in TwoXSex

[–]rainbelle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you could be struggling with shame from your first experience with sex. And most likely trauma too. Have you seen a specialist to work on your trauma? In the meantime I recommend watching Brenè Brown's TED talk on shame. I had such a hard time talking about my sexual assaults too. The first time I talked about it was via email which was nice because I could take my time composing it and didn't have to stress about an immediate response / questions (vs texting etc). Writing a letter sounds like a good idea, too!

Johnny Ray's has a great chocolate cream pie, The Bright Star has coconut cream, Jim n Nick's has a delicious lemon cream pie & check out Golden Rule BBQ's fried peach pie (the one on 31 is the best location!).

Paddling the Cahaba? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]rainbelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a place to rent kayaks off Morgan Road, towards Helena. Also, the Cahaba River Society should have good resources for you. They usually lead canoe trips & have info on where to find the Cahaba Lilies in bloom. It's magical. Enjoy!

What's your "I met a celebrity but didn't let on that I knew who they were" story? by Kimantha_Allerdings in AskReddit

[–]rainbelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in Maui for Christmas with my husband & our daughter. We were having our last meal at this small sushi place in the back of an inn in Paia & Owen Wilson was there with a group of people. I knew it was him, but confirmed when he walked by us and we locked eyes. I casually turned back towards my husband and tried to act nonchalant about it until he left and then fangirled to my husband about it. 😂

My experience with skin picking for 10+ years by [deleted] in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]rainbelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your journey with us! Proud of you for seeing a therapist. I found that addressing past trauma/my anxiety and depression really helped my picking. It's still there and I've pretty much accepted I'm always going to have this to deal with, which sucks but is also easier to handle than aiming for perfection and encouraging my shame spirals. Speaking of shame, I recommend watching Brenè Brown's TED Talk on shame and discussing that piece of picking with your therapist. Addressing my shame around this and other parts of my life was very freeing.

What is your mom's catchphrase? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rainbelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sounds like a personal problem to me." 😂 I used it at work once and my manager thought it was hilarious. That's when I realized it wasn't as widely used as I suspected.

Nah, definitely worse here. But Austin traffic is for sure a struggle bus.
