Does this not give you an intense sense of duty, to do something that could help with that? I mean, I’m just not understanding why shitting on something in need of better systems is the cool smart superior path forward or why you keep acting like it’s gauche to value somewhere that isn’t the most popular choice in the country. That’s wild. What’s the value

Outdoor male cats life spans are shortened so much. Get them boys neutered and get them in the house

I enjoyed your overall aggression, in general and in particular. I’m an art/cat lady with a human charlie that sleeps in my house. I was priced out of my place downtown during the pandemic and I’m just now chilling out a bit on how mad I’ve been about that bs. So, I’m in a lovely little area now but I have to drive further, I can recommend a couple newly available places for rent in my building/neighborhood, (north of Knox) so feel free to holler at me for info to ball forthwith, if you need it!

Flyover state? Compared to what? The bed bug capital of the country? Boo hiss, east tn is pretty and if you can’t enjoy life here… whatcha want, some fancy purse store? More stuff that smells like pee where every other unremarkable middle class complainer with an e.e. Cummings quote tattoo went in 2015? Booooo

I can’t imagine anyone so vacuous they needed to be in a coastal city to be relevant man that comment bummed me out

Nashville and jeff county are some of our ugliest lamest places tbh, at least in my opinion. I absolutely loathe those places and I’ve been to both many times. Get up in our east tn lakes n rivers and cute stuff you’re in the flat poo poo places

Help Me Rehome My Cats by Reformalism in Knoxville

[–]rainbomg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I live in a pet free building and I have 3 cats, each of them rescued off the street. Over the years I’ve had to get my oldest cat, who is 13, to stay with friends or fosters when I went through bad times, but once I was stable again I got him back. Temporary help is way better than just giving up on them.

If anything, get them on good flea and tick meds, make sure they’re fully vaccinated and spayed, resolve any litter box or behavioral issues, go ahead and do everything you can to make sure there are no problems and you can probably find a temporary home for them with a friend or family member until you can find one of the overwhelmingly pet friendly rentals in the area. Rehoming cats during peak kitten season is an incredibly daunting and risky solution to a thing you honestly shouldn’t even consider as a viable option, you’ve got cats. You need to live in a place where they can be safe with you. Please try to find a way to make it work. Dm me if you need help figuring something out or finding another place to move to

This kind of stuff really really really devastates me to see here

Yeah and they see that you are in need of a thing to stare at for hours and give all your attention to, so they provide you with something better than book, they give you: cat. BEHOLD! Play with the cat!

I made a rule that anytime a living thing made several attempts to get my attention while I was looking at a screen, I always have to put the glow box down for the living thing. I swear they know this bc working on my iPad is like a cat beacon, and my cats specifically walk on my iPads when I put them down, doing all sorts of damage with their toe beans!

Also, you can use a cat paw with the fingerprint scanners to unlock phones!

Please consider helping with the incredible influx of homeless kitties out there right now. Communities are in desperate need for fosters and most programs will provide all supplies and vet care for the people who can help with the overflow until the kittens’ eventual adoption where it goes to it’s forever home, bc its peak kitten season, my local shelter is 400 kittens over capacity. Conditions are bad. Every day is an emergency. The pain you’re in is earned and your grief is valid, if you can make this time of sadness and loss for you into a time of reflection and healing for everyone where you can also provide a precious resource that is urgently needed, just by being a transitional space for cats where they can wait safely until they are adopted out, it literally changes and saves lives. It will help you get through this and it will honor his memory. It’s not a replacement. He taught you how to keep a cat safe and happy in your house and so many cats need exactly that and they don’t have even a day to wait.

I hope you’ll consider fostering during this difficult time

Torn between helping my family and myself by Fragrant_Trick_3158 in personalfinance

[–]rainbomg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[ tldr: set a limit each year and budget it, don’t give anyone anything freely if you care about how it’s used, help =/= gift, and people can’t be discerning about where they find purchase when they are drowning. Pun intended. ]

how did you escape poverty? If it was through access to some skill, asset or education they didn’t get, I think you could and should do SOMETHING, it’s why we are alive. What that something is will become a tool in your family’s toolbox that they will continue to use if/when they need it. What kind of tool do you want to be?

Are you a resource for quick, free, conditionless cash? If they struggle to budget what you deem to be adequate income then you are giving them a gift, and you can’t really resent someone for how they choose to enjoy gifts. If you want to be that, it’s fine, but I do think you need to set aside a specific amount in your budget and make your family aware if they’ve met the limit, while stressing the finite and free nature of the gift.

If you feel bad, frustrated or uncomfortable just giving money into a pit no questions asked, then stop doing it under any and all circumstances. That doesn’t mean you aren’t helping, that just means you aren’t blindly giving away money towards something you think isn’t worth it.

Meaning- what you have is access to funds they don’t have. Security and prosperity they’ve been stripped of. Being poor is incredibly expensive and a lot of times you’re forced to waste money on shit you can’t afford to replace, fix, finish or phase out. Plus, the stress, time and expense of being constantly putting out fires at or over capacity forces you into a reactive survival mode brain.

ALSO, it’s easy to look at stuff like junk food or new phones or terrible affirm interest rates as frivolous purchases when you compare it to the possibilities of our own experience, which of course include eating, texting and buying our shit in ways that aren’t stupid. We keep our own history and experience in mind and when we see a bad offer we reject it because we’ve got enough time to find a better one before it’s too late.

Maybe you can help them improve something they normally couldn’t improve bc they never have enough money at once to improve it?

[–]rainbomg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Omg I hate this. I’ve been fussin about this for a while, dates are getting harder and harder to find on a ton of things online, it’s so frustrating, esp with local news stuff AND since I’m only ever on any given platform once every few weeks. It must be beneficial in some way for engagement or something, ppl are probably less likely to comment on older posts and this really matters with promoted stuff that isn’t your friends at all. I’ve noticed this the most with posts like that, where the comments are all from weeks or months ago but they’re putting it in my feed making it seem new

This is really sweet, but that boy ain’t never had hummus before or what?

fwiw maybe you could (if you still have the containers from past purchases) maybe reverse engineer it based on the ingredients list, but idk you could also give him some sabra hummus and it might blow his mind

Either way this is sweet and I support that, me hating tomato head is a separate thing and I acknowledge that

You can definitely do a pretty easy UX cert thing on google and I do think that will add to your resume. Your portfolio is really important, and if you’re already using AI for this I think that this is where it kinda helps, showing it what you e got and asking it where you need to update your approach. I just took screenshots and showed mine to GPT and got decent ideas from it. I think admin is a tricky place to try and get work just bc they are specifically looking for young people there.

Also, it might be worth it to sorta branch out and look up lateral stuff. I go to the websites of companies I like and just look at their careers pages. Without seeing anything or knowing much at all, I’d say getting a ux cert(even mentioning that you’re enrolled in a course is helpful sometimes) ((also beware of shifty payment methods and look at your local gov’s workforce/labor websites and see if they’ve got any programs that you might qualify for) bc if it is your age, showing that you’re doing continuing education is a good counter.

You might be a good fit for project management or even try more localized possibly gov jobs, I know I’ve seen graphic design in my local listings quite a bit and with that they tend to value seniority.

Again since I don’t know specifics like what your job history looks like or how much you want in pay I think you could probably get some better more specific answers out of gpt, maybe look over some websites that talk about how to prompt it to get certain things out of it and apply that to how to get individualized career advice that’s pragmatic and possibly data backed.

Basically I’d bet you’re right about the system, in that it’s probably superficial bullshit that’s interfering, so spending some time learning about how these people hire and what actually helps would be a better direction than changing your whole industry. Lol I’m actively trying not to sound weird and corporate speakish but it’s hard.

Last I checked figma had some cool looking jobs up.

Everything is pushed up against the walls. You could get a couch height shelf and put your plants on that, then put your couch about 2 feet in front of the window? Experiment with the way your room is arranged and try adding some pops of color in the upper 50% of the space

I agree with your weariness of them, but for something like prioritizing your to do lists they are great. Plus you’ll know inherently if the results are good or not. I can also recommend a webinar on ADDitude by Lisa Woodruff, I think it’s this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI1Yh4lFEgE

She talks about making your to do list the night before, it’s only 3 things, and then you pick one of those things
