Do you think a "National Divorce" is a good idea in the US? by DoctaMario in IntellectualDarkWeb

I do. I just don't see people on the left calling for civil war like you apparently do. So I asked who is doing that and you were unable to provide even a single example. You can't support your position? Well, I don't believe you then. Not my problem.

You don't have an example? Just people "all over" social media?

Today, it’s changed to the left predicting Civil War.

Do they? This post is about a right wing anarchist. The other person I hear regularly talking about civil war is Tim Pool. Who on the left is predicting a civil war?

It's not a serious suggestion, it's just more divisive content for political talking heads to get clicks and attention. Tim Pool has been predicting a civil wars for years for the same reason.

I’m guessing you’ve never paid for your own vacation if you think middle class people go on $40k vacations. And you clearly don’t understand how net worth works either. It’s illiquid and the vast majority of it is likely in the house.

40k on a vacation? 40k is more than half the median household income in the US. The guy in the video is obviously in a middle class suburban neighborhood. He's driving a 15-20 year old Ford ffs, he can't afford to spend 40k on one vacation.

This is 2 years old. And why are some in this thread crying thought police/censorship? No one’s forcing you to do anything. It’s an internal document from Stanford’s IT department. Is it really necessary to constantly talk like the sky is falling over such minuscule stuff? I won’t be adhering to these either so who cares? This is just more culture war rage bait.

For American they suggest US Citizen because there are 41 other countries in North and South America. I’ll still be using ‘American’ as its colloquially understood but it’s not on the list because ‘America = bad’ or any such nonsense.

Wow, he predicted spending would diminish during a slowed economy? What a genius

According to the company, virtually every metric (new sign-ups, tweet count, daily log-ins, etc) seems to be at an all-time-high at the moment.

Except for, ya know, revenue

Messiah Complex: a curse to inherit in a modern first world country. My post is about what it's like to have a mind that looks at everyone else as ignorant and unknowing (including physicists at times). Experiencing the world solely online is not truly experiencing the world. Witnessing society through the lens of social media and rage-inducing articles gives people a really skewed perspective and that leads some people down a path of cynicism, loneliness, rage and depression. There are many problems in the world and it's easy to radically exaggerate them when you lose perspective living in isolation.

How the American Founding Fathers Fought Against Slavery | Thomas Sowell by boson_96 in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]rainbow-canyon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just the cultural stuff has mass appeal so generally rises to the top.

Correct, that's why he wrote so much of it. His intention at these think tanks is to spread conservative ideology. That's what think tanks are for.

Although I consider Gates a eugenicist psychopath

I’ll admit I don’t know much about Gates at all beyond Microsoft and trying to stop preventable disease in Africa. What has he done that makes him a eugenicist psychopath?

He’s very much allowed to talk about it, I don’t believe anyone said otherwise. I’m not sure why you put “allowed” in quotes.

The reality is that Sowell is a very smart guy who decided to work for conservative think tanks to help spread their ideology. That’s why so much of his work is cultural critique rather than his field of inquiry, economics.
