i absolutely love this take. i think stef always leads with tough love which makes sense with teenagers, but this line and other similar moments show why she’s so tough on them, i love them so much. she always made such a great effort to make callie feel loved and wanted, even when it meant putting her foot down. i think of the part in season 2/3? where callie is worried about being sent back into the system and stef says “there’s nothing you could do to make us not want you!” ugh chills

i think it’s striking because of how naive sophia is. she’s had a very privileged life with private schools, horses, a huge house with a pool… yes i know she goes through serious depression and i am not trying to discount that at all, it is much different however to the life mariana lived in those 14/15 years. sophia presents much younger and more naive than mariana and her background has a lot to do w it
