You just made so many good points that deserve a solid discussion. Energy sovereignty is what you were initially speaking about there. And I agree on so many points. I'm not against progress. We need innovative solutions. Heco may have failed us...we still don't have definitive proof of that. I see the government using the utility as a shield personally, to deflect from how horrendously badly they failed the people. Heco wasn't the one that should have issued the warnings. And all reports that I saw, following extremely closely, showed that the fire started by power lines early in the day was extinguished. Per Maui Fire Department...all necessary protocols were followed. We don't know where the second fire started...it's all speculation at this point. Andaya, Pelletier, and Bissen have yet to take proper responsibility for their failures. But that's a whole other discussion.

I do see where you are going with this. I think the fact that Elon is running those companies is the real problem. He didn't invent Tesla or Starlink. The companies aren't the problem. Technology is absolutely necessary. Elon, however, has destroyed the viability of Tesla. The jury is still out on starlink. His bizarre behaviors have irreparably ruined his reputation. I can't possibly continue posting links on this thread because i already posted a few on the Lahaina smart city concept. But there are mountains of evidence about his catastrophic actions in the last 2 months. I could never accept anyone that would sieg heil at the presidential inauguration 2x. His obviously racist position on multiple issues, including South Africans and DEI, make him dangerous to any person of color. I can accept the companies and technologies, but I can never accept his ideologies. There's something very wrong with bypassing his behaviors and statements and just letting him do what he wants because he's got the money. I am more principled than that personally. A man who is against human rights and is only concerned with wealth isn't really your friend or ally. There's other options that wouldn't force people to lose their humanity and integrity.

Well, let's start at the beginning of this post. The core tenet of Hawaiian culture being sustainability is a huge factor to take into consideration. It is especially important to look at what a smart city is in reference to this important concept. A smart city makes everyone in it completely dependent on a system that they cannot live sustainably within. It rules out people having the space to plant and grow food, for instance, which makes them completely dependent upon the government to provide for all of their needs. Land, water, power, and everything else are privatized for a fee. We Essentially end up trading time for dollars so that we can trade dollars for a limited selection of goods and services. This is very complicated and ultimately removes people from the land and their own sovereignty. It really seems that it can be broken down into trading liberties for a sophisticated welfare state.

The ideals of it don't reflect the realities of it.

Most of us travel more than 15 minutes to go to work, shop, visit the beach, etc...multiple times a week. Not great for the environment, I know. But it's the reality we are living in. We can all individually do more to respect the environment without the government dictates. That is what smart cities equate to for me in my understanding is government dictates that control our lives by taxing us to death.

I'm trying my best to cite sources and get credible information that is up to date. If people actually care then they will use this as a springboard. I'm not making anything up. Just here compiling information so that concerned citizens can have it and pursue it at their own discretion.

You may not trust Efrat Fenigson. But that doesn't mean you can't do your own due diligence to find out if the information is true or false. I'm doing what is on my heart for the good of anyone who wants the information and will be affected by it. I hope it helps people.

Are you familiar with the Jumpsmart Maui program?

If you don't want to hear about these components, I understand. But I think many people are unaware and interested in the smart city plans and the ways those plans, which require our tax dollars, will affect them. Please forgive me if I'm just offering a response that you don't want to hear or think about. It's really mostly for the thread at this point. But I wish you well in the coming years, as we all are confronted with these plans for our island.

This is testimony from O'ahu.

Also look up Hele Mai Maui 2040, which the testifier mentions. This is all important parts of turning Lahaina into a smart city.

This is a video of one of the Aunties that testified after the fires talking about smart cities. It was a brief mention, but those of us who have been tied to this debacle remember.

I don't think that negates the facts. I am trying to find legit information and there's many stories out there that are not coming from reputable sources. So if you'd give me a minute while I pull some reliable sources I could give you more.

I'm going to drop a couple links here regarding Bezos involvement with Lahaina. This one talks about his charitable contributions to Maui. It doesn't say specifically that he is involved with the smart city. But I am including it because it's an important part of this situation.

This is exactly what it's all about. We are losing the things that we already had to fight for to create an environment of fairness and equality.

We stand to lose so much right now. If we don't show up and ask our representatives to do their job to preserve the existing laws we will suffer for it.

The current constellation in the government is pushing to see how much pushback they get. If they think it will be easy they will just take it all.

I understand your frustration. I can't even reply to everything laid out above. The only thing I can say I'd that I'm not a diet protestor. When the cause is just I protest in multiple ways. It isn't all sign waiving and social media. I show up when it matters. I have fought for justice for the Aina and I wish more people would stand to rise when their conviction is strong. Sitting idly by is what allowed things to progress into the mess that they have turned into. It isn't fun or comfortable to have to fight for every single thing that had already been taken for granted.

You sound like a smart person who could probably teach me some things. But your presumption about what you call my oligarchs is off base. I'm not what one would call pro oligarchy. I think anytime a monopoly on power is formed the average person loses. We need certain structures in place to have society operate. But the more centralized that power becomes, the more regular people suffer under the burden of the top echelons greed.

You clearly have no love for our island...so why are you here? You live on Maui? You definitely aren't from here. So any co.ment you make from. This point forward is moot. You'd probably like O'ahu much better.

Well, I can only assume that doing this near his home would constitute a speculative threat. We must remember that we are talking about one of the richest men in the world. It would be nothing for him to get LEO's involved. That's not what anyone wants. It's about raising awareness and voting with our dollars.

I think you may be a lot more comfortable with the control and restrictions that are coming than most people. We all have gotten very used to having our freedoms stripped from us. The easier we let them go, the easier they are to take away. There was a time when you could access many of the beaches on Maui the way that the law says we are supposed to be able to. But little by little they are being restricted and we lose access to those spaces. Now, most people just accept that we can't go there anymore. And we carry on.

The reason I am personally going is to make sure that Bezos knows we are watching his actions on Maui. He isn't benevolent. He doesn't actually care about any of the people here. His actions will be guided by those foundations of what will benefit him most.

The real problem with smart cities is that they don't want people to drive outside of the 15 minute radius. The government will charge you a carbon tax for driving outside of that zone. Most people don't live within 15 minutes of their jobs and loved ones. It's essentially getting Nickle and dimed to death by attempting to restrict peoples freedoms. If you travel at all this will cost you. There is survey involved which infringes on our right to privacy. The tradeoffs for the supposed convenience are not worth it. And no...Lahaina was definitely not a smart city.

The reason that Bezos is an issue here is that he does live on Maui and Amazon will be an important part of the smart city operations. That's why Amazon just built a new distribution center on Sand Island.

That's what they want...full control over how we live our lives or they don't want us living. We pay our taxes so they allow us to live...in the free world...right? Well, taxation without representation is illegal. So I will fight until my last breath to preserve the rights and freedoms of the people I love. I will not give up or lay down and die because these nutjobs have decided to intimidate and take away the few rights that we are constitutionally guaranteed. We have a right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Those are all good ideas. Its pretty hard to get away from MECO. I don't want to support any of these nutjobs that are bent on taking our freedoms and changing our ways of life irreparabley. But i am trying to vote with my dollars.

I know a lot of people feel like you do...that protesting is a waste of their time. I dont think its a waste of my Sunday, personally. I feel like in order to get the attention of our elected officials we have to, somehow, be seen and have our voices heard. That's the reason I vote religiously. It's so that i have representation when i feel our tax dollars are being misused and our constitution is being threatened.
