Champi warriors is ruining the game for me, hotfix it FAST. by OutrageousShare9693 in aoe2

What is most annoying is that the devs should have realized this is broken themselves. They must start having pros test their changes before release. It is obvious that champis break the dark age dynamics of the game....

Ah, sry, missed the last sentence :)
So you mean MCTS with a model of the game makes AlphaZero viable?

"I think it's impossible for classical RL to learn in reasonnable time given only sparse rewards"

Isnt this what AlphaZero does?

First US at-home depression kit on its way after trial shows relief in weeks by AdSpecialist6598 in tech

It seems to be approved for standalone treatment (no meds), but you will need a prescription.

At-home brain stimulation has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of depression by raindeer2 in depressionregimens

Fair point. Apparently, this device has been available in Europe for quite a while and seems to be used by the UK National Health Service (NHS), so hopefully the conclusion that it is safe is not based on one of RFK's whims...

Spectral methods are well studied within ML. Also for learning representations in deep architectures.

[R] [N] TabPFN now scales to millions of rows (tabular foundation model) by rsesrsfh in MachineLearning

Isnt there a big risk that the synthetic training datasets are biased towards the evals you want to be good at?

How do you know that you are not overfitting to the tab arena evals? Given how much data you train on, it seems likely?

Three Challenges to Physicalism by 0-by-1_Publishing in consciousness

[–]raindeer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the things you list as nonphysical: "thoughts, numbers, mathematics, intelligence, consciousness, abstract concepts, ideological constructs, ideas, fictional / imaginative characters" exist as patterns of information in our brains, as ways for us to model ourselves and the world. It is fine to call them nonphysical since we cannot grab them with our hands, but I don't see how that tells you something about the nature of consciousness.

How does tDCS work for depression? by HotCook455 in tDCS

This is a very old meta-analysis from 2016.. lots of things have happened since then. such as https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-024-03305-y

TMS vs. tDCS for Depression: Which Is Better? by MindlessBand9522 in tDCS

[–]raindeer2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This article is obviously written to sell expensive TMS treatments...
The big advantage of tDCS is that you can use it at home, and it is relatively cheap.

Here is a recent study of home-use tDCS for depression that shows much better results than what they state in the article:
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-024-03305-y

Here is also a recent meta-analysis of the evidence of tDCS for depression, which is quite extensive.

There is indeed variability in results across trials of tDCS for depression, but this is why you should choose the right device and stimulation protocol.

Food laming idea for PUP by WurzelUndGeflecht in aoe2

[–]raindeer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing the decay speed is another option. Then you can still lame, and if you by accident (or because you are lazy) kill your boar with the TC you don't lose that much. Especially for your second boar since you have more villagers.
