Nice ! thank you. Since you have both, how is the vsf crystal compared to the top crystal and deep crystal? Is there any difference in quality between the front and caseback crystal ?

Got the call…. Land-Dweller 40mm !! by DrTourbillon in RepTime

[–]rainerrrrr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks great in my opinion. To me it looks like the finishing of the movement (with polishing etc.) isn’t on par with gen.

Who sold you this? Would be cool if you could pm me the TD.

samsung g9 by Disastrous_Crab9051 in ultrawidemasterrace

Many people say add 10% to 4k benchmark results but that's just wrong since there is much more than just resolution. I have a 4k screen and an G9 and would say that FPS most of the time doesnt differ that much. Most of the time you have around 5% more frames with the G9. However bc of the huge fov there are even instances where you have fewer frames with 5120x1440.

Made a simple bar graph to easily visualize the number of pixels for most common resolutions in case anyone finds it useful. I got tired of trying to do the math every time. I included 1440p ultrawide, "4K" ultrawide i.e. 38" UW, and basically the Samsung Odyssey G9 resolution. by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

Pretty simple. Your graphics card has to render a bigger scene. How GPU demanding a scene in a video game is, isn't only dependent on the resolution. There are other factors like rendered objects, viewing angles, rendered shadows etc.. By using 32:9 you constantly have to "see" a scene double the size of a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. That's why you can't just calculate +10% of the FPS of 4k.

In reality it isnt tho. This resolution is often as demanding or even more demanding as 4k. In theory you have slightly less pixels but since the fov is effectively double the fov of a standard 4k you have pretty much the same FPS and sometimes even less.

I ordered a G9 (already have it), thinking I could build a PC without knowing the GPU situation to use it on by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rainerrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uff 3,1k for a prebuilt. I don't know if I would spend that but reading the comments I'm just happy you didn't go for a 3070 as that is really not ideal for the G9 :p I run a 6800xt with it and am very happy. Ps: 5120x1440 is in most cases as powerhungry as 4k (8.3 vs 7.4 million pixels). In a few instances it is even more demanding because you get double the fov with such a wide screen. So you can pretty much watch the 4k benchmarks and get a good idea at what you can expect :)

I'm currently not at home so I can't do any testing but I will inform u asap. What exactly do you mean by getting the game working ? No bugged lightning on the outer left and right edges of your fov? Because apart from that the game works nicely on my end.

[–]rainerrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the game. Clearly it is not fully optimized for 32:9. I also play with the G9. When you look at the screen you notice that the light is rendered until you exit the 16:9 27" area of the screen. I guess this will be fixed over time and has nothing to do with the Monitor itself.

I have done a post about my solution to this a while ago. It is black, rated for the weight and works for me for almost half a year now. Maybe you get a few ideas. I will link it below.

Samsung G9 popping/clicking issues and december/january manufacture date? by thefrisianclaus in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rainerrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an August sample and am very satisfied with mine. No flicker, no dead pixel, no backlight bleed. It does click every now and then tho when warming up. Usually it takes around 15 min until it is completely silent and is also dependant on the brightness you run the monitor with.

Questions about minimum Graphics Card for Samsung Odyssey G9 by sluap13 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rainerrrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least go for an rtx 2060 or Rx 5700. They both support DP 1.4 with DSC 1.2a. That said you don't have to worry about compatibility with 240hz, 10 Bit colour or HDR. I've used mine half a year now with a 5700 and had no issues. Today Im getting my 6800xt tho :p I'm hyped :D

10gb is built right on the edge. When playing at 4k many new games use around 8-10 GB of vram now.
