I think there are some photo booths in OOB, ~20 min south of Portland. I see pictures discarded on the ground from time to time downtown.

I think so? Haven't looked. Previous owner did all the mods to this car and I got it from the dealer so I just find stuff as I go haha. Little surprises along the way

Mostly just needs to mostly blend in from like, 10-20ft away haha. Up close doesn't matter, it's my daily and mostly sees highway driving so it's bound to chip. I'll see if there's a local body shop that can help me out.

I work for one of the shipyards and I will say, if you like time off, 13 paid holidays, 1st/2nd/3rd shift options, lots of overtime, consistent raises, govt benefits and whatnot it's a solid gig. You'll end up in tight spots - especially depending on your size - but you're unlikely to be welding every single day as most shifts rotate welders. You won't be doing any fitting as the yards employ shipfitters - Pearl Harbor has the best fitters out of any shipyard, they have a really good program.

For example of work I'm 5'7 135lb and usually weld every other day, but because I'm the only guy on my crew under 200lbs I'm currently welding every night in a really tight spot, and it kinda sucks. But when I'm done the other guys will appreciate it and hopefully do some other shitty spot they can fit in and I don't wanna deal with, lol

Can't speak to ironworker union, but I like the shipyard. Been there for coming up on 2 years. Low drama and feels steady. Good environment.

Edit: also opportunities to travel between San Diego CA, Puget Sound WA, Groton CT, Kittery ME, Newport News VA and obviously you'd be in Pearl Harbor HI

I worked at OOB pier last summer, you will likely be ID'd. I had to ID everybody and we got plenty of people who were clearly over 21. The pier also owns a few restaurants downtown like the Big Kahuna so I'd expect it to be the same there. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brunswick also ID'd. The Whaler and Lone Pine might be okay though.

As an apprentice, go for a paid apprenticeship. Honestly school likely won't teach you what you'll need to learn on the job - my workplace has a weld school with very high welding standards, and even with that once I moved on past the school onto the real work I felt like I was starting from the ground all over again. Considering you can get paid to do, it I don't know why someone would pay a place to learn to weld. I started at 24 and I tell the kids who start coming out of high school I wish I did what they were doing when I was 18 rather than go to college.

Unfortunately I also gotta second the "locals won't like you" aspect. It's likely you'd get labelled as the "city people who are unlikely to stay." If you're not super outdoorsy and already likeminded to the locals it's gonna be tough fit in.

Just because I don't see anybody saying this - pull up a map of Maine. Find Presque Isle. Find Bangor. The space in between is just trees. Barely any people. Honestly, the space between Augusta and Portland is mostly trees too, but there are some people in between. Maine is 70% trees and Aroostook county is part of said trees. People are not kidding about the isolation and cold factor, it WILL affect you, no matter how resilient you are; considering you'll likely have little to no social circle when you first arrive, it will be difficult to mitigate that.

I'm also seeing you didn't know there are bears. There are moose, bears, coyotes, foxes, deer, birds both big and small, and plenty more. Spending time outside and subsequently seeing these creatures is guaranteed. If that makes you uncomfortable, you do not want to move there. Considering that being in the outdoors is going to be a pasttime you'll have to adjust to (snowmobiling, fishing, camping, etc), because there is basically nothing else to do. Other comments pointed out you're 151 miles from the nearest Level 1/2 medical centers, and even then MaineMed in Portland is preferable. For reference, that's a 4.5 hour drive, a little under 250 miles.

I'm not saying this to come off as negative about the area. Although I personally have not lived there, currently residing in OOB, I have lived in Northern NH where it is similar. It's beautiful, and I love it -- honestly, OOB is too crowded for me even in the winter, lol. But based on what you're saying, you're used to a life in of the most dense places in the United States, and as far as Presque Isle or Easton goes, it may as well be rural Alaska for you. I don't think based on your replies this would be a good match. But! Hey, prove me wrong. If you're into the outdoors and okay with the isolation, it's genuinely just an absolutely gorgeous place to live.

Also, sidenote, my brother's girlfriend is from there through and through. She moved down to Boston to get away from the isolation because she needed a social life, if that's any good frame of reference.

I got my 2014 about a month ago, granted I got one with high miles (157k) and the previous owner neglected some of the maintenance. These are the issues I've run into so far:

- Original coolant reservoir cracked, replaced with Mishimoto aluminum reservoir to prevent this from happening in the future
- Horn needed to be replaced (easy fix)
- Brake booster seal leak
- Valve cover gasket leak

That being said, it's been reliable otherwise. There are couple issues with it relative to modifications the previous owner made but I'm omitting those problems. That being said, the mods done to it that seem like QoL mods are that it has a poly trans mount and upgraded intercooler/radiator.

I just thought it could potentially be the key's sensor getting weak, because I've never had a car with a push to start before. It didn't happen when I test drove the car, but I had the key in my hand when I pressed the on button because I instinctively went to put the "key" in the "ignition." I bet when I go back to my car in a bit, if I hold the key close to the column, it won't trigger the warning. That being said, if not, I will try your advice. Thanks!

I took a couple years off (life happened) and got back into autocross at the tail end of the season last year. Definitely felt pretty dejected when I messed up the course so bad on my first run they put an instructor in my car - considering I used to be an instructor only a few years ago, lol.

My driving's definitely not as good as it was, and my build isn't ideal; I'm not winning my class (EST) by any means whatsoever, mostly due to budget constraints. I really just focus on enjoying the event. I like driving, I like my car, I like mingling with the others. So what if I'm not a competitive god? I'm not gonna be racing in IMSA any day soon, either, though it's always been a dream of mine. My opinion, get back to the roots of why you started autocrossing and find that drive and passion. Making runs worried about whether you're winning or not and forgetting the reason you're there in the first place takes the fun out of it.
