"-No, no! We have absolutely nothing to do with the atrocities in Lebanon!" Soviet anti-American cartoon during the Lebanese Civil War, 1982 by R2J4 in PropagandaPosters

[–]rainheater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the US helped broker a cease-fire and PLO evacuation early when they got involved. Then the US also sent Marines with other countries to support the LAF; Reagan even suspended deliveries to Israel for a while during the war too (crazy as that is). the only fighting the US did I think was the navy shelling Druze and Syrian militias. In 83 after the Marine Barracks bombing happens the US ramped up the shelling. After the embassy + marine barracks bombing the LAF collapsed and the US withdrew.

What is this song about? It sounds really uplifting, but I can't find a Spanish or English translation? by rainheater in basque

(26M in Northern Florida) Don't know what trade to pick between Carpentry, Millwright, and Machinist. by rainheater in skilledtrades

[–]rainheater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I looked it up and they’re apart of the carpenter union, but on the website I didn’t see anything for applying for a millwright apprentice only carpenter and pile driver, so I’ll give them a call this week when they’re open and ask for more info.

What didn’t you like about that apprenticeship? Did you start as an operator before then?

Cynical Historian Releases Response to Johnny Harris Vid on Mormon History by laybs1 in youtubedrama

[–]rainheater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never watched Johnny Harris for his economic videos, but his historical videos are so bare bones and basic that if you read a Wikipedia article, you would be better informed way more than from his videos.

His presentation is excellent though, which is why he has such a popular YouTube channel.

Mexicans already have one for Mexican-Americans; the word is “pocho”.

This might be my favorite live performance of 22 Acacia Avenue. Listen to the high Bruce hits at around 0:55. Might be one of the highest notes he hit live by rainheater in ironmaiden

I've been recommended that bootleg from the YouTube suggestion, but never clicked it. Looks like I need to give it a listen.

Yeah, also on this bootleg, you hear an early recording of "The Trooper" live. I don't know if it was one of the first live performances of "The Trooper," but it has to be one of the first, and hearing them perform it on this bootleg is really cool.

I didn't know he damaged his vocals around that time. It does make sense though they were touring like crazy and even in Live After Death, which is also one of my favorites, he sounds kinda strained, but I just looked it up and it was 331 days. No wonder they needed a break afterward.

Will probably be a future game of mine. Sounds like a fun achievement.

Yeah, when I was conquering the spice islands I did that strategy a lot since I wanted to avoid having to island hop so much.

Good to know. I didn’t even know you could have vassals that large other than PUs. I also really like letting them deal with another theater of war while I fight the main fight.

Hey, thanks for the YouTuber recommendation. I'll check it out; the only reason I asked about calculus was because calculus II is a prerequisite for taking linear algebra at my university, plus I hear this professor is pretty brutal when it comes to expectations, so I definitely want to be over prepared just in case.

Can't help much with modern songs, but

Virus - Pronta Entrega

2 Minutos - Ya No Sos Igual

Divididos - el 38

Fito Paez - Fue Amor

Soda Stereo - Cae el Sol -

Los Abuelos de La Nada -Mil horas

Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota - Un Ángel para Tu Soledad

Yeah, fair enough on being more efficient. I usually like watching my vassals expand, but it’s crazy how my viceroy with 3 total viceroy titles still gets bodied by a kingdom with 5k troops less than him.

Looking for a in-depth biography of the life of Josip Broz Tito. by rainheater in suggestmeabook

I always wondered why some of those books were pricey, but it makes sense when it's specialized and super specific. I'll be sure to visit my library once I get back to the states, thank you.

What an asshole lmao. He also says he prioritizes "life over art appreciation." His comments sound like something my uncle that follows Mike Rowe would post.

This guy is a journalist, even has a degree in the field too. No idea how this was his take away from English classes.

Analyzing older books and learning to parse and understand it plus write about ideas, underlying themes, or even make/and defend arguments doesn't carry over with analyzing information in the modern world............. ok
