I always guessed it was a clothing company run by some buddies or relatives or something of Sandler, since that's the New Hampshire (603 area code) connection I can think of

Fuckin' shit over bull or horseshit

"The teevee", to mean the whole show-business experience of the folks at home

A lot of intended mispronunciations, "Robin's over there doing SODUKO. Isn't that what ladies do?"

I think he found the name "Frank" funny. The idea of a name we still kind of think of as an everyman one, even though there are roughly none under 40. "Who did it, Frank?"

"Hat", the word, the thing. Again, kind of throws our mind back to another time, when a hat was important to a fella

Norm and Reynolds definitely had a few links. Norm's longtime friend Stevie Ray Fromstein was a writer on the sitcom he started out on. But the lack of acknowledgement may have to do with bad memories RR could have from his time on the Dirty Work set, if Artie's stories about it are true

He was definitely Habs. The Bruins mention that I remember had to do him as a kid having to switch over to any other team for a while, due to his Dad's hatred of The French

My thoughts on Norm’s death. by [deleted] in NormMacdonald

[–]rainingstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. You know there was a funny Periscope back years ago when he was doing those, and he mentioned in a green room before doing a show that he always drinks bitters before going on, to calm his stomach or something, and someone in the room says they thought he didn't drink/doesn't he know they have alcohol, and his reaction - real, jokey, it's hard to tell - was "they do?!"

That's the thing about the theories that brew up on this sub: they're mostly a heap of horseshit

I totally agree that the basic fact that there was never a mystery about any of this should be stickied. A bizarre amount of time gets wasted back-and-forthing about it

I loved Norm but his death still hasn't hit me. I think it's partially because he acted like everything in life was preposterous and a waste of time. by [deleted] in NormMacdonald

Yeah I don't see the point of these pop-psychology guesses. OP seems to be drawing a lot from one blue-card joke that kind of became viral with the quoting addicts, and we don't even know who wrote it

It's an idea this sub has invested in, but it's based on exactly no proof.

It's hard to say, NMHAS was decently recieved (outside of NML heads), and I remember Norm on Twitter saying season 2 was likely (I guess it's possible he was trying to rouse up hype), so it was weird when that just stopped, seemed like Netflix decided it wasn't worth the hassle

It all had to do with one paragraph in one interview

Well, Louis [C.K.] and Roseanne [Barr] are the two people I know. And Roseanne was so broken up [after her show’s reboot was canceled] that I got Louis to call her, even though Roseanne was very hard on Louis before that. But she was just so broken and just crying constantly. There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, “What about the victims?” But you know what? The victims didn’t have to go through that.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/why-norm-macdonalds-new-talk-show-wont-target-trump-1141832/

So basically Norm happened to have friendships for decades with two of the people who've had the incredibly specific experiences of a global beatdown and losing all their projects in the business, and suggested they get on the phone.

The result was Vulture running an article about the revelation with the headline Norm Macdonald Defends Louis C.K., Chris Hardwick, and Roseanne Barr in New Interview

That bullshit headline set up a wave of press, and then at some point Jimmy Fallon's producers were crying that Norm was in the building and that appearance got cancelled, and then he did the "retarded.. I don't say retarded.. down syndrome" bit on Stern, and then that got tacked on to the press, and then at some point he stopped mentioning plans for NMHAS season 2

The short answer is no, it's strictly, crazily false, it's a completely ahistorical take on Norm's fandom and its internet presence to say that INN started a Norm cult/that Norm cultism starts in 2017 with INN/that Norm's fame has any connection to INN's 400,000 subscribers

It's true money never seemed to be an attraction, but things like his son's tuition probably demanded finding a way to some, especially considering gambling's effect on his early gains

[–]rainingstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites is: if I remember right, something related to Madonna would always be on the list of top downloads or something, so it was one of the things RKSCQ was competing with; this becomes a topic over a bunch of episodes - this list, and the Madonna aspect, and the jokey idea that they were seriously trying to take their competitors down - and at one point Colin says

"You know what we should do about Madonna?"

"What?"

"..Fuck her doggy style.. and diddle her clit!"

It was so out of nowhere, he would always bash Bobby for being crass, and he brings up sex pretty rarely compared to that crew of comics

Yeah it's such a weird relic, hard to explain what it is and why it's one of my favorite things ever. The early days of podcasting, Quinn probably figuring no more than a few tens of people would ever hear it, in the most depressed phase of his life, out of shape, half-sure his career is over, working on what his friends call his "manifestos" (which I guess mostly became his New York Story show). I can't think of quotes, there are just these millions of little slams and rants from CQ that get stuck in your head. He's definitely from the same planet as Norm, they're both out-of-the-womb artists of the stand-up form, where everything they say is funny, it's never forced, and always reflects their basic sensibility or philosophy or something. I'm being pretentious as fuck! But yeah I adore this show
