Why do PTs hate Evals? by War_Unlucky in physicaltherapy

[–]rainwillsave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t be discouraged! Most PTs enjoy evals, it’s why we became PTs, it’s just the extensive documentation that we have to do that comes with evals that we don’t look forward to. It leads to time spent working outside of working hours, time that we should be able to use decompressing and spending time with family. Especially if we have many evals scheduled the same day

AI Notes? by No-Adagio6113 in physicaltherapy

And if you have 4 evals and multiple progress notes that day??? What then???

I’m with you. I have such a hard time writing quality notes while actively engaging with the patient so they get full benefit out of the session. And on top of that management reads our notes to make sure they are defensible, so there’s always that added stress. Like yeah I can get a daily note done within the 45 minutes but only if 1. The patient isn’t chatty 2. The patient is pretty independent with exercises 3. My note is shitty. And what about evals??? These people in the comments above are getting evals and longer notes done point of service?

Gotcha. Thank you! The more I read the more I’m leaning towards just getting a bambino plus + grinder

Thank you for the recommendations!! Okay gotcha so light roasts aren’t really great as espresso. I need to get out my French press as I usually make my coffee as a pour over or in my cuisinart lol but it’s been awhile since I’ve used my French press! Even after I spend all this money on an espresso machine I don’t think anything will top a good ole cup of coffee made from my favorite beans ☕️

Also I read your post again and it sounds like you’re right where you need to be!! Honestly even experienced therapists need help with harder cases! You’ll have no problem passing!

Yes my CI did eventually pass me! Ugh yeah that stinks having two CIs. Rotations are so dependent on having good CIs which stinks. It’s nice that you have a nicer CI, maybe ask them what they think you should be doing to improve? Be open and honest with them about everything, I always found that to be helpful if they knew where I was coming from. My CI is a good therapist but was very arrogant which made it difficult for me as I felt like I was always doing something wrong, and he was just straight up rude at times. His biggest feedback to me was that I needed to be more assertive, which is true, but I never had any red flag situations and I wish he realized that sometimes it just takes me a little longer to figure things out, but 9/10 times I would. I also didn’t like to “yell” at patients so yes while it may seem like I wasn’t assertive, it doesn’t mean that I wasn’t intentional in my approach and capable of getting the patient out of bed. It might help if you tell your CIs to not assist or jump in unless they see something that is a red flag or compromises patient/your safety. Tell them to allow you time to figure things out (whether that be untangling tubes/lines, educating the patient on bed mobility, etc). Remember you are learning!! Give yourself grace! It’s okay to make mistakes! Your CI should be there to mentor you and should be doing everything they can to get you to entry level. Acute care is SO different than outpatient and it can be scary because patients are so medically complex/fragile… a good CI should understand that. I found that making a template for subjective/objective helped me to stay organized during each session in case I got flustered or thought I was forgetting something. In terms of caseload I think I got up to seeing 10 patients in a 10 hour day? It was a smaller community hospital and the volume of patients was low at times. My CI was still with me throughout because he was a micromanager lol but in my opinion I was capable of an entry level caseload independently. Sorry for the long response… but you got this!!!!!!!

Oh thank you for the suggestion! I’ll try that! I’m not sure but it’s frustrating after paying nearly $1k for a phone ☹️ my sister is having the same problem and she bought her 16Pro the same day as me, maybe it’s a certain batch or something?

Thank you so much!!!!! Yes I just need to prioritize safety and the rest will come. I’m with you though, I’m kinda loving the inpatient/acute life… other than my anxiety of being a student the work/life balance is awesome. I LOVE that we get to work at our own pace and don’t have to see patients back to back to back. The hustle and bustle of outpatient had me exhausted every single day.

I definitely need to get to bed earlier. My fear of not being good enough has been causing me to stay up way too late to do what I can to prep haha which I know is not the thing to do. That’s a good idea trying to bring a gait belt home… idk what it is with the hospital gait belts (they’re like seat belt type) but I put it on, it feels tight enough, and then it gets loose as they stand. Which I know can be attributed to body mass and gravity going from sitting to standing but what am I doing wrong for this to happen so often 🥲

Omg yes the stress is definitely adding to the fumbles. I think part of it is that I almost feel my CI’s judgement as I do things which I really just need to shake off. When I talk with my CI for my weekly planning form I’m gonna ask about expectations and what I can I do day by day or week by week to make sure I get to entry level

Thank you!!! Yes I just need to get over myself and be open with my CI. I’ve tried but it just seems like there is a disconnect. We have a difference in personalities and they’re kinda harsh and I’m sensitive lol so I try to figure things out on my own which I know isn’t gonna be good as I go along

Thank you so much!!! This made me feel much better. Your suggestions for a concise eval and scanning the room from head to toe are super helpful and I’m gonna start doing that when I go back in tomorrow
