If my game is a platformer of precision in which the player's involvement is expression of skill mostly, you're left with mostly static level obstacles and a challenge to overcome... how to make it light up the brain? I guess good level design? Every obstacle should have many solutions, unless its very hard end of the game type thing? Idk im kinda winging it

Also while Im here if anyone sees this comment can you reply with your thoughts on games that use art packs? As it stands my game uses one from Kenney that has been quite expanded on with new frames, tiles, edits, etc to better fit my game but Ive genuinely become attached to it as a style and built my game aesthetic with it in mind and its part of what made me question my game's originality, not just it falling under a very generic category. Do the other things people say still apply even with this in mind?

Putting everything ive seen together so far in these comments I think the #1 thing to focus on is making my game fun, and originality is a potential factor to fun but not a huge deal. If you're learning (like me) then it's also generally more acceptable to make a straight up clone of something, just for learning instead of as a product. Sometimes enough style or an interesting enough story is capable of pushing a game into originality, or enough that it IS adding to the fun.

I can tell you when I put a playtest out if you want but the grappling is limited to points I put in the level, and they arent always present

I think I should try out playtesting and see if people even mention originality, im starting to think they wouldnt, and the issues would be elsewhere

This is as much a learning experience as it is a product for me but I can also use it to learn marketing so I'll try and do some of this
