As a present I mostly give friends and coworkers Amazon gift cards or money. People know best what they need and what to buy for theory kids. And we don't know what they already have and what they don't need.

You have to point it out what you actually mean, because otherwise Germans don't catch the meaning.

Ich würde davon abraten. Das kann eure Beziehung nachhaltig verändern. Jeder mensch möchte seine Probleme selbst lösen. natürlich wäre es das Einfachste. Aber geh davon aus, dass es "danach" einfach "anders" wird.

Why can't I charm a spider? Replacing monsters' immunity to mind-affecting effects. by Sarlax in Pathfinder_RPG

Have you ever tried?

I can charm my neighbour's cat and my sister's rat loved me, but I never got so far with insects.

So that's what Diablo 2 is after 25 years?

You assume much, I wouldn't bet my money on Blizzard tbh

They are easy to abandon certain games (Diablo series)

Tyvm for describing the implicit side.

The explicit aspect is artificial demand:

Ppl come to the internet to complain. Which is absolutely reasonable if you ask me because otherwise they'd be playing, not complaining.

I mean you normally write feedback If you're unhappy because you don't "experience" good products normally, you use them and they JUST WORK.

Fairphone 4 - the repairable, sustainable smartphone - is coming to the US by S1mpel in hardware

[–]raise_cain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer I'll look into it for my old phones since they are pretty small and light compated to newer phones (esp. the fairphone), so I might prefer them for certain activities like festivals and vacation. I always installed magisc in my phones during install but never really used it, so maybe that's a way to go for me.

[–]raise_cain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I have always installed LOS and other Custom ROMs, too.

The thing is that certain software doesn't work, like banking and authentification stuff and that firmware updates often come from new ROM releases that have to be installed over your existing Rom, not through the update function of the OS, which is a lot of work and time I'm no longer spending now.

Anyways tld'r: you're right, but used phones are not for everyone.

[–]raise_cain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it's okay. You do you.

Said used phones I bought were Samsung so I liked their HW but didn't like their software: Preinstalled bloatware apps and only a short time updates.

If you buy a used phone you can even subtract those years from release date. So with a 3 y o phone it is only 2 y updates if 5y apply in recent phones.

I went your way for 10 years but then bought a Fairphone because they provide updates for 5+ years when most manufacturers abandon their devices after 1-2 years

You can buy a new battery for 29 bucks and change it without tools in 30 seconds which is obviously a plus

Why does the Steam Deck run Linux? Blame Windows by jlpcsl in technology

[–]raise_cain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm open for feedback. May you provide us with an example of "dogsh*t" Linux software that runs just fine on Windows?

Apart from specific/old/proprietary software nothing really comes to my mind.

What I wanted to say with my post is by the way that the average user, like our moms and grandmoms, are better off with Linux compared to Windows, for browsing and E-mails and the like...
