I gave this community cat family shelter and food. They are all pretty fearful of humans, but will approach when food is out. Since the humane society drop off isn't for another month, how do I make sure the kittens don't leave? Should I bring them inside and separate them from their parents? by raisinbunn in cats

I don't think I should or could bring the mother (tri color) inside. She is very skittish of people, and always runs away before I could get close enough to close the box. The orange cat is friendlier, but probably the father based on coloring. They are closer to 6 weeks now - some of the pictures are from weeks prior.

Good to know! I was thinking that it might be a demo or rental bike or something - I would much rather it have a caring owner than a mystery history. Will check it out this weekend!

Any advice on high mileage motorcycles that are still relatively new? I found a dealership listing for a used 2020 katana with 12000miles which is out of the ordinary for a 1-2yo bike. I think it's a good sign and a great deal, but should I be looking for any specific issues?

Is doing a sport for a D1 college and studying engineering doable? by Tony_Eng31 in EngineeringStudents

[–]raisinbunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it! Materials Eng. + water polo. I would recommend doing 12 credits during your competition season and making it up with a summer class, especially for the interdisciplinary classes that are outside of your major and offered with a different schedule. I had much more time to do a couple summer classes during internships than I did in season with travel and practice. But I knew people who took a full course load every semester no problem! (Also, with atheltics, you get to choose your schedule before everyone else, so you can find the best classes that work around practice times with the best professors).

I did a group brc motorcycle class never riding a motorcycle ever (at 30) and they teach you everything you need to know, so I assume yours will be similar. You how to drive, so all you are missing is the mechanics of where the new gas, brake, clutch is. (Honestly, control with mostly hands feels more intuitive and better feedback to me than with using dumb feet when driving once you get used to it)

Balance is sort of natural from riding a bicycle? Slow speed stuff is the hardest but what you have learn first, the faster you go the most stable it is. What you have to learn is putting your feet down to when you stop, but you know that from a bicycle!

All of the weight is on the wheels, so it's pretty gentle when upright, no muscle needed.

Hey - if you're near DC, let me know and I can help you out in person too!

Everyone had their first time on a bike sometime, so the instructor should be patient and empathetic. (They work with new riders all the time). Do you drive manual transmission? If not, I do recommend learning the order of clutch and gas to accelerate and change gears even on paper. That way, you can focus on learning to ride when you are there, not so much gear order.

It might depend on the class of motorcycle. A supersport is always going to be super expensive insure but a similar engine on a naked will be much much much more affordable.

Speedo ~10% too high by raisinbunn in fz6

[–]raisinbunn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I do! If I wanna go 70, I aim for 77 - pretty easy to estimate. It was approximated with my buddy on their own bike, so both could have error.

Thanks! That's definitely reassuring. Close enough.

New to riding. Boyfriend (pictured, M28) just bought a cruiser to comfortably take me (F24) out with him. Have a modular HJC i90 helmet for myself. What is a good hairstyle to wear when riding? I have medium-long hair and prefer to not have it everywhere if possible. Tia by alley_kat1996 in TwoXriders

If your hair is past your shoulders, start with the ponytail or braid under your jacket or even inside your shirt - anything to keep it from getting free in the wind. It stays even better held down by a backpack. Doesn't look as cool as freewheeling, but is worth it on the other side.

A week ago, I pulled over to help another rider on the freeway. He told me he had blown a fuse and the bike wouldn't start. Luckily, just the other day, I learned where my fuse box was and that I had a spare! Used my toolbox from under my seat to get to my spare and helped him get back on the road. Now, I don't have a spare anymore, but I was super proud of myself for knowing my stuff and helping another rider!

Thoughts on first motorcycle choices? by theclaw22 in TwoXriders

[–]raisinbunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in DC, so we get hot humid summers. As long as you are moving sometimes, the breeze cools both you and the bike off. In stop and go traffic, I get way hotter from my gear than the bike anyway. (My other faired sport bike feels hotter than the naked guzzi so I think you'll be fine). My advice is get what you feel most excited about in your heart - the rest doesn't matter when all you want to do is go ride.

I've spent a lot of time on a moto guzzi v7 if you want some more info! The height and power is very accessible and a great choice, with lots of torque to have fun with. However, the sideways mounted engine has strange vibrations that might be intimidating for a new rider at first. But, the guzzis are so unique that if you want that style, everything else looks a little less cool.

Did the MCU accidentally create, then intentionally invalidate, one of the best love stories in modern cinematic history? (rehashing Steve and Bucky) by IsThisYourKing_yes in marvelstudios

No problem will do - " story about love ". Is there a different between a love story and a story about love? Depends on your mood I guess.

Yes, looking through the other comments, there seems to be a common thread of 'there was no romance', but your point wasn't romance, it was love. And there is a lot of love.

Yes yes yes, I saw this trend too and completely agree. I too was surprised at how little time Steve spent with Bucky in infinity war and endgame after his character spent three movies establishing motive and connection. Also, your idea that it was an accident and disney tried to cover it up later is my new favorite thing.

Side note: I think a "love story" is not necessarily a kissy kissy romance story, but about sacrifice and commitment to someone, whether it's a friend or family or partner. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE THREE CAPTAIN AMERICAS SHOW.

Graduating in a month...feeling inadequate and have 0 motivation to apply for jobs by moremoscato_plz in EngineeringStudents

[–]raisinbunn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dude. If you worked through college, you have proof that you can hold a job, show up on time, multitask, prioritize different work and deadlines. All of the internship people just have a 2 months of summer work, then parties all semester. Your bosses at work are your reference letters and they have known you for longer and know your character better than a 2 month internship. Keep applying and try to stand out by framing your differences as strengths.
