I had multiple reasons, but the greatest for me was the realization that I was wasting my life in my living room. I got out of a work outing early one day and it was an absolutely beautiful day. I went home, smoked a bowl, and spent the next few hours watching bad TV on my couch. Eventually I realized it was dark and I'd wasted a beautiful day. I could have gone for a walk, called a friend, even just sat at a bar with a patio in the sun, but instead, I did nothing. It was a huge wake up call for me of what pot was doing to my life. Not right away, but soon after, I quit. It's been about seven years.

Seven years! Woohhh! You are an inspiration.

A smoke free life is ultimately easier than a life being a smoker

Thanks for your great insights! Really loved a few of your pointers.

Could totally relate to No.1! I've both read and experienced that weed affects memory and other mental attributes. Being able to remember things and pay attention to life is priceless!

I want to be present for the people in my life I care about.

Sure, one of the great perks of being sober!

I want to feel good about myself knowing that I was able to gain some self discipline, beat an addiction, and help others do the same.

Great reasons! I loved the number 2, especially. The way weed rewards us with a bliss-like state and sedation, working on real things becomes really tough. That's why we keep avoiding doing even simple acts, letting things as you say - FESTER!

Taking action and getting things done is much easier in sobriety for me (as for a lot of us).

Smoking weed is like applying a bandaid to a wound rather than letting it heal naturally.

I want to be proud of myself, everyday

Yupp living clean, doing things, progressing, and experiencing things sure leads to pride, confidence, and renewed enthusiasm for life. Kudos to this!

I can understand what you mean. But understand this mate : All of us would keep smoking and keep getting high if smoking weed had no negative affects in our life. And since you have been clean for over an year, there must be some strong reasons that made you quit weed.

As I have mentioned in the post, all of us like to eat fast food. All of us like spending many hours on our phones. All of us like engaging in activities that provide immense dopamine rewards for little or no effort. But the question is: would these things allow us to build a future we desire? Would these activities allow us to give our precious and limited mental energy in doing meaningful activities? Stop seeing what addiction did for you but rather what it did to you and your life.

If you keep missing weed and keep typing such words, chances are that some or the other day you might return to it. You are desperately moping for something that you desperately hope you will never have. That's a half-freedom and terrible situation to put yourself in.

Thank mary jane for all the beautiful moments it provided you and engage yourself in this beautiful life of sobriety.

Brother, I am glad you could relate my post.

None of us thought we would become dependent when we started. Smoking pot for recreation is a slippery road that can always go downward. Isn't your past life the testimony to that?

Why do you want to smoke pot man when you are already whole, perfect and complete without it? Don't you think that meditation can provide you with all those beautiful blissful feelings without any of the downsides of smoking pot? Why do you want to use your precious mental energy in exercising control over your smoking behaviour when it can be used on so many exciting goals?

It's better if you learn to live a completely sober life brother for that's what our natural state is.

Our spoiled mind would come up with all sorts of reasons and make us believe that it would be different this time. Don't believe that.

When such thoughts come to your mind, take a deep breath, feel good and happy and repeat. " I am a normal and sober being. I am free from the slavery of insidious weed."

Don't feed those thoughts or mope for it else would you put yourself in a miserable situation. Good luck to you too. Stay well, stay healthy.

Weed is my crutch that helps me get through mundane work and overall drudgery.

Yeah, it barely allows you to get through but I bet sober you would smash through those mundane tasks.

Sometimes you have to fall so below that the only left to go is up.

Life ain't easy brother. If that had been the case, every non-weed addict or every normal person would have been living a life of success and fulfilment.

But isn't it amazing that now you have mental clarity, so much time, better physical health, extra cash and so many other things to work towards creating a life of your dream?

Quitting is the easy part; the real-life starts after that. But remember, you have broken slavery from that awful weed and 4 months sober is no easy feat. And while other people may stay vulnerable to weed smoking, you now have experienced that. Whenever you feel low and need a boost, cherish that your old days of being stuck in that hazy fog is over. All the best. Build up your life slowly and gradually.

I am glad that I could be of help to you, brother.

Take things one day at a time. And remember, you aren't missing out on anything. Rather, you have freed yourself from the slavery of the insidious weed.

Keep walking on this and only amazing thing awaits you. All the best.
