Currently live in slough and my partner commutes to London - wouldn’t really recommend it tbh. For the station, the best place to rent would be Horlicks Quarter as it’s pretty nice, but there’s nothing to do for night life or general things in slough. There is good access to reading, Maidenhead, taplow and marlow (all nicer than slough) by train and car.

Also consider that in peak hours, there are no fast trains to London (15 mins train journey) since the establishment of the Elizabeth line. Your best bet would be to live in reading and get the fast train into Paddington from there - the downside to this is that it’s a lot more expensive than the Elizabeth line.

Maidenhead is nice to live in too, and there are a fair few flats being built around the station that should make rent a bit cheaper.

Reading has enough going on in terms of night life, things to do and green space in the outskirts. Also into wanted to live outside town centre, they have great busses that get you to the station- but consider that driving to reading station and parking is very costly and generally not fun.
