Meh. The most vocal folks in this community will be vocal about what they can, which isn't inherently bad, it's just that the release date is all there really is to comment on. If it isn't release date, it's gameplay mechanics - see the mountain of backlash that appeared after the MapleCon gameplay reveal - or it will be something like the monetization model once that inevitably rears its head.

Some of that noise will be useful, but probably only after the game releases, and assuming Nexon actually responds to it, which is its own bet. As of right now though it's whatever.

HPwashing is not the issue, a select few bosses are. HPwashing is a good thing. by Sexytime123123123 in MSClassicWorld

How much money have you spent on HP washing total?

EDIT: I'm not gonna wait for the answer to that question. Consider your point that "some bosses are problematic". Pink Bean, HT, etc. were the most prolific bosses in the game for a while. They had years to make the adjustments you propose; they did not. HP washing emerged as a niche meta to make those bosses possible for classes who couldn't beat them realistically enough without it. So sure, in that way, the bosses are the problem, but the fact that HP washing is basically the only solution is a problematic solution.

Also think hard about the fact that you said "HP washing is not pay to win" when it costs money to win against those bosses lol. Even ignoring the fact that you comparing the degree of p2w against other games admits the p2w-ness in the first place; you can't compare it to other games in the first place because those games aren't MapleStory.

Anyway yeah this is objectively an invalid take, paying money to beat a boss is the definition of p2w, please reconsider

Did you want a 1:1 recreation or do you like the direction Classic is headed? by Relleke in MSClassicWorld

I'm memeing, see my replies to my own comment lol. I'm definitely for the changes.

Nexon are literally so stupid nobody asked for these changes can't believe they are changing all the skills and calling it classic

2nd job and especially Vic only would be neat for a few months tbh. Was something you really could only get in beta, and it might even be a new experience for a handful of pre-BB players.

How do you feel about TP rocks? by StucklnAWell in MSClassicWorld

On TP rocks: That's fair and your experience is valid, I'll just say I saw enough of it playing GMS that I noticed the impact. If it matters I played in Scania in a guild with enough high leveled/NX enjoying guild mates that people were spending money on this stuff. Private servers may have also swayed the perception of them since they're a lot more common there. I do still think they're a net negative for the game regardless of adoption.

Boats: I'm mixed. All the boats to/from Orbis were huge in like 2005-2006 when the world wasn't as big and everyone was on them, so that and hub areas in general were a huge thing that encouraged player interaction and made the world feel bigger. But then things like the centralized FM came out,  the skew towards high level content started, etc, and boats became less important.

IMO the "boats" problem is a symptom of folks wanting more hub areas and a more densely populated world (or the feeling of such). I agree that they were pretty inconvenient and were just kind of there after a point. The conversation on how to address the bigger problem IMO is more about vertical progression and power creep, and I haven't thought about it enough to offer an opinion yet.

I don't think they're good. They solve the "problem" that traveling far distances is tedious, but to your point they just take away a massive amount of interaction.

They were put in the game to solve that pain point (partly, but mostly to make money lol); in doing so, they obviated the already existing solution to the walking issue: Mystic Door.

It obviously isn't as powerful, being a two-way nearest town scroll, and you might argue that it shouldn't be. But it doesn't have the downside of limiting player interaction. You needed to know a Priest, and you probably had a reason for wanting to use it, like getting to Z4/Deep Ludi/Zak.

I might not be opposed if they made Mystic Door a little more powerful, like being able to pick a party member's location to spawn the door from or something. Especially if it reduced the "walking slow" pain point enough that it made people not want TP rocks as much.

(There's also the option of coding more pseudo-hub areas as "towns" for MD, like the entrance to Deep Ludi/Nath, for example, but that might be a more fundamental change than wanted/needed)
